1. Long‐term data on the meteorology, hydrology, physicochemistry and plankton of a reservoir and its tributaries in SE Germany run from 1976 until now. This dimictic reservoir changed from mesotrophic to eutrophic in the 1970s, remained eutrophic in the 1980s and returned to the mesotrophic state after a sharp reduction in P loading in 1990. 2. Phytoplankton biomass reaches an annual maximum in spring and consists almost entirely of diatoms. While Asterionella formosa was dominant until 1990, Aulacoseira subarctica became more frequent at the end of the 1990s and was particularly abundant in years with short winters. 3. Statistical analyses suggested that these changes were triggered primarily by the mild winters that were frequent after 1988. Climate‐related hydrophysical variables and the initial biomass of the diatoms at the beginning of the year, considered as an ‘inoculum’, were identified as most important. These variables explained 39% of the total variance of the relative abundance, whereas the change in trophic conditions was responsible for about 20%. 4. The absolute and relative abundance of A. subarctica was positively related to short ice cover, early ice‐out and a long‐lasting spring circulation. Owing to its physiological traits, and particularly its ability to survive under low‐light conditions, A. subarctica benefitted from short, mild winters. Under such conditions, it could sustain or establish a high initial biomass, whereas the concentrations of the other diatoms decreased over winter. However, this advantage may be lost if further warming causes an early onset of summer stratification. Because of its low population growth rate and requirement for high turbulence, A. subarctica needs long, cold springs to exploit the improved starting conditions and to become abundant. 5. In contrast to A. subarctica, A. formosa required a substantial soluble reactive phosphorus supply to compete successfully. The eutrophic conditions until 1990 were the prerequisite for its mass growth under low‐light and low‐temperature conditions during the spring. After reduction in P concentration from 1990, A. formosa declined and other diatom species became more abundant. 6. These other diatoms may be viewed as ‘stopgaps’ when conditions were not favourable for A. subarctica or A. formosa. Diatoma elongatum exploited brief circulation periods in years with low P loading. Synedra acus and Fragilaria crotonensis, because of their poor competitive ability at low light intensity, reached high density in the upper water column in the transitional period between spring circulation and summer stratification. 7. Our study suggests that climate‐related variables have crucial impacts on the spring phytoplankton dynamics of deep stratified waterbodies. They can mask the consequences of changes in the trophic conditions and, corresponding to the functional traits of the different phytoplankton species, also decisively control their relative abundances. In this reservoir, the warmer winters and prolonged spring circulations did not only lead to high phytoplankton biomass (despite considerably reduced nutrient loads) but also cause a marked shift in the diatom assemblage during the spring bloom.  相似文献

Here, we report site‐to‐site variability and 12–14 year trends of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) from organic layers and mineral soils of 22 forests in Bavaria, Germany. DOC concentrations in the organic layer were negatively correlated with mean annual precipitation and elevation whereas air temperature had a positive effect on DOC concentrations. DOC fluxes in subsoils increased by 3 kg ha?1 yr?1 per 100 mm precipitation or per 100 m elevation. The highest DOC concentrations were found under pine stands with mor humus. Average DOC concentrations in organic layer leachates followed the order: pine>oak>spruce>beech. However, the order was different for mean DOC fluxes (spruce>pine>oak>beech) because of varying precipitation regimes among the forest types. In 12 of 22 sites, DOC concentrations of organic layer leachates significantly increased by 0.5 to 3.1 mg C L?1 yr?1 during the sampling period. The increase in DOC concentration coincided with decreasing sulfate concentration, indicating that sulfate concentration is an important driver of DOC solubility in the organic layer of these forest sites. In contrast to the organic layer, DOC concentrations below 60 cm mineral soil depth decreased by <0.1–0.4 mg C L?1 yr?1 at eight sites. The negative DOC trends were attributed to (i) increasing adsorption of DOC by mineral surfaces resulting from desorption of sulfate and (ii) increasing decay of DOC resulting from decreasing stabilization of DOC by organo‐Al complexes. Trends of DOC fluxes from organic layers were consistent with those of DOC concentrations although trends were only significant at seven sites. DOC fluxes in the subsoil were with few exceptions small and trends were generally not significant. Our results suggest that enhanced mobilization of DOC in forest floors contributed to the increase of DOC in surface waters while mineral horizons did not contribute to increasing DOC export of forest soils.  相似文献

ABSTRACT Detailed data on bacterial and protistan microfossils are presented from a 0.003 mm3 piece of Triassic amber (Schlierseerit, Upper Triassic period, 220-230 million years old). This microcenosis, which actually existed as such within a very small, probably semiaquatic habitat, included the remains of about two bacteria species, four fungi ( Palaeodikaryomyces baueri, Pithomyces -like conidia, capillitium-like hyphae, yeast cells) two euglenoids, two chlamydomonas ( Chlamydomonas sp., Chloromonas sp.), two coccal green microalgae ( Chlorella sp., Choricystis -like cells), one zooflagellate, three testate amoebae ( Centropyxis aculeata var. oblonga-like, Cyclopyxis eurystoma -like, Hyalosphenia baueri n. sp.), seven ciliates ( Pseudoplaryophrya nana -like, Mykophagophrys terricola -like, Cyrtolophosis mucicola -like, Paracondylostoma sp., Bryometopus triquetrus -like. Tetrahymena rostrata -like, Paramecium triassicum n. sp.) the microfossils correspond to or diverge from extant species only slightly.  相似文献

SYNOPSIS. Based on electrophysiological and histochemical data,four types of muscle fibers (types I, II, III and IV) can beidentified in the closer of the crab Eriphia. Although characteristicsused for typing vary among the fibers of a particular type,the combination of several parameters permits an assignment.Of particular significance for typing is the myosin ATPase activityand its stability after preincubation at different pH levels.The fiber types defined for the closer muscle can also be foundin the other leg muscles of riphia. Single, electrophysiologically identified fibers of each typewere quantitatively analyzed for several key enzymes of oxidativeand glycolytic energy metabolism (GAPDH, LDH, CS, IDH, HAD).Despite the variations found, different metabolic types canbe defined. The typing derived from biochemical studies correlateswell with that obtained electrophysiologically and histochemically.The variability of the biochemical properties, however, seemsto be considerably larger. The type I fibers can be regarded as slow oxidative, the typeII and III fibers as fast oxidative glycolytic, and the typeIV fibers as fast glycolytic.  相似文献
