Siderophores are structurally diverse, complex natural products that bind metals with extraordinary specificity and affinity. The acquisition of iron is critical for the survival and virulence of many pathogenic microbes and diverse strategies have evolved to synthesize, import and utilize iron. There has been a substantial increase of known siderophore scaffolds isolated and characterized in the past decade and the corresponding biosynthetic gene clusters have provided insight into the varied pathways involved in siderophore biosynthesis, delivery and utilization. Additionally, therapeutic applications of siderophores and related compounds are actively being developed. The study of biosynthetic pathways to natural siderophores augments the understanding of the complex mechanisms of bacterial iron acquisition, and enables a complimentary approach to address virulence through the interruption of siderophore biosynthesis or utilization by targeting the key enzymes to the siderophore pathways.  相似文献

BackgroundThe aim of this study was to examine environmental factors associated with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in Yunnan Province, a southwestern highland region of China.MethodsIn this nested case-control study, newly diagnosed ulcerative colitis (UC) cases in 2 cities in Yunnan Province and Crohn’s disease (CD) cases in 16 cities in Yunnan Province were recruited between 2008 and 2013. Controls were matched by geography, sex and age at a ratio of 1:4. Data were collected using the designed questionnaire. Conditional logistic regression models were used to estimate adjusted odds ratios (ORs).ResultsA total of 678 UC and 102 CD cases were recruited. For UC, various factors were associated with an increased risk of developing UC: dietary habits, including frequent irregular meal times; consumption of fried foods, salty foods and frozen dinners; childhood factors, including intestinal infectious diseases and frequent use of antibiotics; and other factors, such as mental labor, high work stress, use of non-aspirin non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and allergies (OR > 1, p < 0.05). Other factors showed a protective effect: such as consumption of fruits, current smoking, physical activity, and drinking tea (OR < 1, p < 0.05). For CD, appendectomy and irregular meal times increased the disease risk (OR >1, p < 0.05), whereas physical activity may have reduced this risk (OR < 1, p < 0.05).ConclusionsThis study is the first nested case-control study to analyze the association between environmental factors and IBD onset in a southwestern highland region of China. Certain dietary habits, lifestyles, allergies and childhood factors may play important roles in IBD, particularly UC.  相似文献

The members of the Toc159 family of GTPases act as the primary receptors for the import of nucleus-encoded preproteins into plastids. Toc159, the most abundant member of this family in chloroplasts, is required for chloroplast biogenesis (Bauer, J., K. Chen, A. Hiltbunner, E. Wehrli, M. Eugster, D. Schnell, and F. Kessler. 2000. Nature. 403:203-207) and has been shown to covalently cross-link to bound preproteins at the chloroplast surface (Ma, Y., A. Kouranov, S. LaSala, and D.J. Schnell. 1996. J. Cell Biol. 134:1-13; Perry, S.E., and K. Keegstra. 1994. Plant Cell. 6:93-105). These reports led to the hypothesis that Toc159 functions as a selective import receptor for preproteins that are required for chloroplast development. In this report, we provide evidence that Toc159 is required for the import of several highly expressed photosynthetic preproteins in vivo. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the cytoplasmic and recombinant forms of soluble Toc159 bind directly and selectively to the transit peptides of these representative photosynthetic preproteins, but not representative constitutively expressed plastid preproteins. These data support the function of Toc159 as a selective import receptor for the targeting of a set of preproteins required for chloroplast biogenesis.  相似文献

A subwavelength plasmonic comb-like filter is proposed by using dual symmetric slot cavities which are placed between two parallel metal–insulator–metal (MIM) structure waveguides. The structure can be considered as a resonance loop which consists of slot cavity resonators and MIM waveguide resonators. The reflective wavelength range and channel spacing are determined by the lengths of slot cavities and MIM waveguides, respectively. Three, four, and five reflective channels with high reflection are achieved in a small wavelength range. Higher channel count can be available by increasing the length or the real part of effective index of MIM waveguides. Such a device can find applications in various optical systems such as wavelength demultiplexing components.  相似文献

We propose a plasmonic filter with a notch located along a rectangular resonator. The finite difference time domain method is utilized to investigate and analyze the transmission characteristics of the filter. Results reveal that the introduction of the notch affects the first and second resonant modes of the resonator in different manners due to different magnetic field distributions inside the resonator. The evolution of the transmission-peak wavelengths as a function of the notch position with the same total resonator length is given. Effects of geometrical parameters of the notch on peak wavelengths are also studied. The corresponding theoretical model of our proposal is discussed, which agrees well with simulation results.  相似文献

The present study aimed to construct prospective models for tumor grading of rectal carcinoma by using magnetic resonance (MR)-based radiomics features. A set of 118 patients with rectal carcinoma was analyzed. After imbalance-adjustments of the data using Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (SMOTE), the final data set was randomized into the training set and validation set at the ratio of 3:1. The radiomics features were captured from manually segmented lesion of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The most related radiomics features were selected using the random forest model by calculating the Gini importance of initial extracted characteristics. A random forest classifier model was constructed using the top important features. The classifier model performance was evaluated via receive operator characteristic curve and area under the curve (AUC). A total of 1,131 radiomics features were extracted from segmented lesion. The top 50 most important features were selected to construct a random forest classifier model. The AUC values of grade 1, 2, 3, and 4 for training set were 0.918, 0.822, 0.775, and 1.000, respectively, and the corresponding AUC values for testing set were 0.717, 0.683, 0.690, and 0.827 separately. The developed feature selection method and machine learning-based prediction models using radiomics features of MRI show a relatively acceptable performance in tumor grading of rectal carcinoma and could distinguish the tumor subjects from the healthy ones, which is important for the prognosis of cancer patients.  相似文献
