Open reading frame ssr2016 encodes a protein with substantial sequence similarities to PGR5 identified as a component of the antimycin A-sensitive ferredoxin:plastoquinone reductase (FQR) in PSI cyclic photophosphorylation in Arabidopsis thaliana. We studied cyclic electron flow in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 in vivo in ssr2016 deletion mutants generated either in a wild-type background or in a ndhB deletion mutant. Our results indicate that ssr2016 is required for FQR and that it operates in a parallel pathway to the NDH1 complex. The ssr2016 deletion mutants are high light sensitive, suggesting that FQR might be important in controlling redox poise under adverse conditions. 相似文献

Sturgeon abundance and distribution in the Caspian Sea. 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The number of sturgeons and their distribution on feeding grounds in the Caspian Sea were assessed. Data were collected between 1991 and 1996 on environmental factors, species composition, and population sizes in the Northern, Middle and Southern Caspian Sea except for Iranian waters. The results show a drastic decline of the sturgeon populations on the feeding grounds at sea. In order to preserve the Caspian Sea sturgeon populations, efforts of all States surrounding the Caspian Sea must be increased and harmonised to serve a single system of fishery management, stock conservation and enhancement measures based on natural reproduction and artificial propagation. 相似文献

Physiological adaptation and genome-wide expression profiles of the cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. strain PCC 6803 in response to gradual transitions between nitrogen-limited and light-limited growth conditions were measured in continuous cultures. Transitions induced changes in pigment composition, light absorption coefficient, photosynthetic electron transport, and specific growth rate. Physiological changes were accompanied by reproducible changes in the expression of several hundred open reading frames, genes with functions in photosynthesis and respiration, carbon and nitrogen assimilation, protein synthesis, phosphorus metabolism, and overall regulation of cell function and proliferation. Cluster analysis of the nearly 1,600 regulated open reading frames identified eight clusters, each showing a different temporal response during the transitions. Two large clusters mirrored each other. One cluster included genes involved in photosynthesis, which were up-regulated during light-limited growth but down-regulated during nitrogen-limited growth. Conversely, genes in the other cluster were down-regulated during light-limited growth but up-regulated during nitrogen-limited growth; this cluster included several genes involved in nitrogen uptake and assimilation. These results demonstrate complementary regulation of gene expression for two major metabolic activities of cyanobacteria. Comparison with batch-culture experiments revealed interesting differences in gene expression between batch and continuous culture and illustrates that continuous-culture experiments can pick up subtle changes in cell physiology and gene expression. 相似文献

Aflatoxins are polyketide-derived secondary metabolites produced by Aspergillus spp. The toxic effects of aflatoxins have adverse
consequences for human health and agricultural economics. The aflR gene, a regulatory gene for aflatoxin biosynthesis, encodes a
protein containing a zinc-finger DNA-binding motif. AFLR-Protein three-dimensional model was generated using Robetta server.
The modeled AFLR-Protein was further optimization and validation using Rampage. In the simulations, we monitored the
backbone atoms and the C-α-helix of the modeled protein. The low RMSD and the simulation time indicate that, as expected, the
3D structural model of AFLR-protein represents a stable folding conformation. This study paves the way for generating computer
molecular models for proteins whose crystal structures are not available and which would aid in detailed molecular mechanism of

Visualization of molecular structures aids in the understanding of structural and functional roles of biological macromolecules.
Macromolecular transport between the cell nucleus and cytoplasm is facilitated by the nuclear pore complex (NPC). The ring
structure of the NPC is large and contains several distinct proteins (nucleoporins) which function as a selective gate for the passage
of certain molecules into and out of the nucleus. In this note we demonstrate the utility of a python code that allows direct
mapping of the physiochemical properties of the constituent nucleoporins on the scaffold of the yeast NPC׳s cytoplasmic view. We
expect this tool to be useful for researchers to visualize the NPC based on their physiochemical properties and how it alters when
specific mutations are introduced in one or more of the nucleoporins. The code developed using Python is available freely from the

The role of methyl salicylate (MeSA) production was studied in indirect and direct defence responses of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) to the spider mite Tetranychus urticae and the root‐invading fungus Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici, respectively. To this end, we silenced the tomato gene encoding salicylic acid methyl transferase (SAMT). Silencing of SAMT led to a major reduction in SAMT expression and MeSA emission upon herbivory by spider mites, without affecting the induced emission of other volatiles (terpenoids). The predatory mite Phytoseiulus persimilis, which preys on T. urticae, could not discriminate between infested and non‐infested SAMT‐silenced lines, as it could for wild‐type tomato plants. Moreover, when given the choice between infested SAMT‐silenced and infested wild‐type plants, they preferred the latter. These findings are supportive of a major role for MeSA in this indirect defence response of tomato. SAMT‐silenced tomato plants were less susceptible to a virulent strain of F. oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici, indicating that the direct defense responses in the roots are also affected in these plants. Our studies show that the conversion of SA to MeSA can affect both direct and indirect plant defence responses. 相似文献

Here we describe cloning, expression, and purification of the enzyme trehalose-6-phosphate hydrolase from thermoresistant strain Bacillus sp. GP16. Principal biochemical properties of the enzyme at different pH and temperature values were determined. Entropy and enthalpy of activation of the enzyme for substrates trehalose-6-phosphate and p-nitrophenyl glucoside were calculated, and the dependence of the kinetic parameters from ionic strength was established. 相似文献

It is shown that long-term adaptation to physical loads of various intensity and duration has an influence on formation, fixation and reproduction of temporary connections in rats. Periodicity of conditioned activity has been found in the process of protracted training. After twenty days of adaptation to submaximal physical loads, the processes of fixation and reproduction of temporary connections improve whereas with elongation of adaptation the conditioned activity somewhat deteriorates. In conditions of long-term training by maximal physical loads, both elaboration and preservation of conditional reflexes in all adaptation terms is affected. 相似文献
