Synthesis of a library of novel trans 6-methoxy-1,1-dimethyl-2-phenyl-3-aryl-2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-4-yloxy alkyl amines and their antimycobacterial activity against drug sensitive and multidrug resistant strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis have been reported. All the new compounds in the series exhibited MIC between 1.56 and 6.25 μg/ml. Two compounds 1i and 1j with low MIC and low cytotoxicity showed significant reduction in CFU in infected mouse macrophages at 1× MIC concentration. The compound 1i inhibited the growth of M. tuberculosis in mice at 100 mg/kg dose with 1.35 log10 reduction of CFU in lungs tissue and was active against non-replicating Mycobacterium tuberculosis under anaerobic condition.  相似文献

Mutations with respect to the sporulating character in the cyanobacteriumAnabaena doliolum (AdS and AdB strains) were induced after treatment with acriflavin, acridine organge 9-aminoacridine, N-methyl-N′-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine, ethyl methanesulfonate, hydroxylamine, nitrous acid, low pH (pH 4.2) and elevated temperature (65±1 °C). Exposure to higher temperature was most effective in inducing nonsporulating mutants in both strains. Uptake of acridine dyes, inactivation and mutability with respect to sporulation of two strains of cyanobacteriumA. doliolum revealed that the mutagen uptake could be directly correlated with the frequency of induced mutations but that survival and mutability are independent strain-specific properties.  相似文献

A 30-year-old woman presented with a lump in the left breast and left axillary lymphadenopathy that, on fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC), proved to be duct cell carcinoma with metastasis. Histology of the radical mastectomy specimen showed a mixed colloid carcinoma. Axillary lymph nodes revealed a variety of pathologic changes consisting of reactive hyperplasia, tuberculosis and metastasis. A combination of a tuberculous lesion and metastasis in the same lymph nodes was also found. During follow-up, after radiotherapy, the patient developed left supraclavicular and right cervical lymphadenopathy that, on FNAC, revealed a tuberculous lesion and metastasis, respectively. The rarity of this condition with double pathology is highlighted, and the reason behind the limitations of FNA in subtyping the primary malignancy and its failure to detect the tuberculous lesion in the axillary lymph node are discussed.  相似文献

WhileEscherichia coli is common as a commensal organism in the distal ileum and colon, the presence of colonization factors (CF) on pathogenic strains ofE. coli facilitates attachment of the organism to intestinal receptor molecules in a species- and tissue-specific fashion. After the initial adherence, colonization occurs, and the involvement of additional virulence determinants leads to illness. EnterotoxigenicE. coli (ETEC) is the most extensively studied of the five categories ofE. coli that cause diarrheal disease, and has the greatest impact on health worldwide. ETEC can be isolated from domestic animals and humans. The biochemistry, genetics, epidemiology, antigenic characteristics, and cell and receptor binding properties of ETEC have been extensively described. Another major category, enteropathogenicE. coli (EPEC), has virulence mechanisms, primarily effacement and cytoskeletal rearrangement of intestinal brush borders, that are distinct from ETEC. An EPEC CF receptor has been purified and characterized as a sialidated transmembrane glycoprotein complex directly attached to actin, thereby associating CF-binding with host-cell response. Three, additional categories ofE. coli diarrheal disease, their colonization factors and their host cell receptors are discussed. In recent years, drug manufacturers and researchers have begun to consider the nanobiotechnology approach to improve the drug delivery system for tumour and cancer diseases. In this article, we review current strategies to improve tumour and cancer drug delivery, which mainly focuses on sustaining biocompatibility, biodistribution, and active targeting. The conventional therapy using cornerstone drugs such as fludarabine, cisplatin etoposide, and paclitaxel has its own challenges especially not being able to discriminate between tumour versus normal cells which eventually led to toxicity and side effects in the patients. In contrast to the conventional approach, nanoparticle-based drug delivery provides target-specific delivery and controlled release of the drug, which provides a better therapeutic window for treatment options by focusing on the eradication of diseased cells via active targeting and sparing normal cells via passive targeting. Additionally, treatment of tumours associated with the brain is hampered by the impermeability of the blood–brain barriers to the drugs, which eventually led to poor survival in the patients. Nanoparticle-based therapy offers superior delivery of drugs to the target by breaching the blood–brain barriers. Herein, we provide an overview of the properties of nanoparticles that are crucial for nanotechnology applications. We address the potential future applications of nanobiotechnology targeting specific or desired areas. In particular, the use of nanomaterials, biostructures, and drug delivery methods for the targeted treatment of tumours and cancer are explored.  相似文献

The algal and cyanobacterial flora and the chemical environment of six freshwater streams of Schirmacher Oasis, Antarctica were investigated. Over 30 species of algae, predominantly cyanobacteria (Cyanophyceae), were recorded. N2-fixing species, both heterocystous and unicellular diazotrophs, contributed more than 50% to the counts and their dominance was greatest in the middle of the stream where nitrogen and other nutrients were low. Green algae and diatoms also contributed to the flora. The species composition varied between streams. Glacial and snow drift meltwater streams contained a distinctive community. Based on diversity indices, these streams could be classified into two clusters.  相似文献

To examine the effects of heat and noise individually and jointly on certain physiological responses and cognitive and neuromotor based functions, 12 male participants were tested under 6 experimental conditions which resulted by combining 3 levels of heat (25 degrees, 30 degrees and 35 degrees C) and 2 levels of white noise (70 and 100 dB). The experiment was carried out in a controlled climatic chamber following two 6 x 6 latin square designs. The results indicated elevations in heart rate, oxygen uptake and body temperature due to the independent effect of heat or the combined effects of heat and noise. The independent action of noise was found to be depressive on the first two responses. On the neuropsychological effects, the heat adversely affected the speed in card sorting (by design configuration) and digit symbol tests, and also the accuracy and error rate in the reasoning ability test. The noise caused performance improvements in critical flicker frequency (simultaneous) and in error rates in card sorting (by design configuration). The combined effects of heat and noise indicated higher error rates in card sorting (by face value), decreased accuracy in reasoning ability and improvements in performance in accuracy scores and error rates in digit symbol test.  相似文献

We examined gazelle peripheral blood leucocytes using the α-Naphthyl acetate esterase (ANAE) staining technique (pH 5.8). Our purpose was to determine the percentage of ANAE positive lymphocytes. The proportion of ANAE positive T-lymphocytes was 72%. T-lymphocytes showed an ANAE positive reaction, but eosinophilic granulocytes and monocytes also showed a positive reaction. By contrast, no reaction was detected in B-lymphocytes, neutrophil granulocytes or platelets. The reaction observed in T-lymphocytes was a red-brown coloration, usually 1–2 granules, but enough granules to fill the cytoplasm were detected rarely. As a result of ANAE enzyme staining, we concluded that the staining technique can be used as a cytochemical marker for gazelle T-lymphocytes.  相似文献
