Surface modification of silk fibroin (SF) materials using environmentally friendly and non‐hazardous process to tailor them for specific application as biomaterials has drawn a great deal of interest in the field of biomedical research. To further explore this area of research, in this report, polypropylene (PP) grafted muga (Antheraea assama) SF (PP‐AASF) suture is developed using plasma treatment and plasma graft polymerization process. For this purpose, AASF is first sterilized in argon (Ar) plasma treatment followed by grafting PP onto its surface. AASF is a non‐mulberry variety having superior qualities to mulberry SF and is still unexplored in the context of suture biomaterial. AASF, Ar plasma treated AASF (AASFAr) and PP‐AASF are subjected to various characterization techniques for better comparison and the results are attempted to correlate with their observed properties. Excellent mechanical strength, hydrophobicity, antibacterial behavior, and remarkable wound healing activity of PP‐AASF over AASF and AASFAr make it a promising candidate for application as sterilized suture biomaterial. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The present study was conducted to ascertain the adaptive capability of pigs to different seasons based on changes in serum cortisol and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels, and peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) mRNA expression. Based on average THI, the seasons were classified as winter (November–February), spring (March–June), and summer (July–October). Hormone cortisol was found to be influenced by season (p < 0.01), age (p < 0.05), and genetics of the animal (p < 0.05). However, level of LDH was not influenced by either of these factors. HSP70 mRNA expression was higher in almost all age groups in crossbred and exotic pigs during summer in comparison to other seasons. Lower HSP70 gene expression was observed in almost all age groups of native pigs in comparison to crossbred and exotic during summer. In conclusion, native pigs were acclimatized for thermal stress in comparison to crossbred and exotic breeds of pigs. Also, the expression pattern of HSP70 gene is breed-specific, most likely due to variations in thermal tolerance and adaptation to different environmental conditions. Both serum cortisol and HSP70 gene may act as reliable biological markers for assessing the adaptive capabilities of pigs to different seasons.  相似文献

Hexa-coordinated chelate complex cis-[Ru(CO)2I2(P∩S)] (1a) {P∩S = η2-(P,S)-coordinated} and penta-coordinated non-chelate complexes cis-[Ru(CO)2I2(P∼S)] (1b-d) {P∼S = η1-(P)-coordinated} are produced by the reaction of polymeric [Ru(CO)2I2]n with equimolar quantity of the ligands Ph2P(CH2)nP(S)Ph2 {n = 1(a), 2(b), 3(c), 4(d)} in dichloromethane at room temperature. The bidentate nature of the ligand a in the complex 1a leads to the formation of five-membered chelate ring which confers extra stability to the complex. On the other hand, 1:2 (Ru:L) molar ratio reaction affords the hexa-coordinated non-chelate complexes cis,cis,trans-[Ru(CO)2I2(P∼S)2] (2a-d) irrespective of the ligands. All the complexes show two equally intense terminal ν(CO) bands in the range 2028-2103 cm−1. The ν(PS) band of complex 1a occurs 23 cm−1 lower region compared to the corresponding free ligand suggesting chelation via metal-sulfur bond formation. X-ray crystallography reveals that the Ru(II) atom occupies the center of a slightly distorted octahedral geometry. The complexes have also been characterized by elemental analysis, 1H, 13C and 31P NMR spectroscopy.  相似文献
