The effects of changes in arterial pressure and in circulating volume on Plasma Renin Activity (PRA) in the intact rat were compared by two experimental procedures. Gradual volume depletion was induced by intraperitoneal injection of a hyperoncotic polyethyleneglycol solution (PEG) in absence of acute changes in Systolic Arterial Pressure (SAP). SAP was measured in the conscious state by the tail cuff technique. Plasma Protein Concentration (PPC) and Hematocrit (Hct) increases after PEG injection were compared as the index for measuring the Plasma Volume Reduction (PVR). PRA showed a significant (p less than 0.001) linear relationship with PPC, suggesting a direct dependence of renin secretion on volume depletion. Acute changes in the circulating volume were induced by controlled hemorrhages of 5.0, 10.0, 15.0 and 20.0 ml of blood/kg body weight. The increase in PRA showed a significant relationship with the changes in circulating volume, but it did not show any dependence on the changes in Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP). Our results suggest that, in the intact and conscious rat, renin secretion responds to the information from the cardiopulmonary volume receptors rather than to that from the high pressure receptors. 相似文献

1. The effect of different dietary fat intake on the lipid composition and fluidity of microsomal membranes as well as in the enzymatic activity of the Ca2+-ATPase from chick breast muscle was investigated. 2. When a standard diet was supplemented with 10% sunflower seed oil, an increase in the relative amounts of unsaturated fatty acids and membrane fluidity and a decrease in the cholesterol content was observed. 3. The presence of 6% cholesterol in the diet does not modify the fatty acid composition and the fluidity of the membrane but increased, in a low extension, the cholesterol content. 4. The provision of the sunflower seed oil-rich diet supplemented with cholesterol just 48 hr before death promoted an increase in the relative amounts of unsaturated fatty acids and cholesterol content whereas the membrane fluidity decreased in a significant extent. 5. Despite that dietary lipids gave rise in some cases to changes in lipid composition and in the physical state of the microsomal membrane, neither the Ca2+ uptake capacity nor the ATPase activity were significantly affected. 相似文献

We conducted a laboratory experiment to examine whether dominance status affects the use of locations occupied (i.e. scent-marked) by same-sex conspecifics among wild-caught snow vole males ( Chionomys nivalis ). Given that the costs of invading scent-marked areas should partially depend on the intruder's competitive ability, we hypothesised that, once a dominance relationship has been established with the owner of marks, the use of these areas by males would vary differently between dominant and subordinate individuals. Before any previous experience with the owner, scented substrates and nests were highly attractive to all males, indicating a general preference for recently occupied areas. However, after relative social status was established through direct interaction the subsequent response of males was altered differently, subordinate individuals reducing the use of marked areas to a much greater extent than dominants. Competitive relationships between male C. nivalis were found to be influenced by differences in body weight, larger males tending to display a more dominant pattern of behaviour. Our results reveal that male C. nivalis may require some direct experience with potential opponents to modulate their response towards occupied locations. Additionally, we suggest that the ability of males to conditionally respond to social signals from particular competing conspecifics might be used to lower the costs of prospective agonistic interactions. 相似文献

on ion absorption by young corn roots was studied in conditions allowing the independent control of both the pH of uptake solution and the CO2 partial pressure in air bubbled through the solution. The surface pH shift in the vicinity of the outer surface of the plasmalemma induced by active H+ excretion was estimated using the initial uptake rate of acetic acid as a pH probe (Sentenac and Grignon (1987) Plant Physiol. 84, 1367). Mitochondria purified from cotyledons of soybean seedlings fiveto ten days old have the capacity to rapidly oxidize glutamate(measured as glutamate dependent oxygen consumption). This capacitywas greatest at ten days after planting but was very low priorto emergence of cotyledons from the vermiculite and during senescence.Solubilized glutamate dehydrogenase activity, on the other hand,was substantial at two days after planting, peaked at sevendays, then declined and rose again during senescence. It issuggested that mitochondrial glutamate oxidation plays a rolein reserve mobilization and amino acid metabolism during seedlinggrowth. Leaf mitochondria and those from senescing cotyledonscould not sustain rapid rates of glutamate oxidation despiteready oxidation of other substrates and high solubilized glutamatedehydrogenase activity, suggesting an alternative role for theenzyme in these tissues. Possible controlling factors are discussed.

In the derivation of the biomass distribution function for an ecological population critical use is made of an energetic constraint on the maximization of biomass diversity. The nature of this constraint is explored in detail using Kleiber's relation σ(m)=cm γ between animal metabolic rate σ(m) and body weightm in conjuction with the Prigogine-Wiame thermodynamic paradigm for specific entropy production in biological stationary states. These two inputs fix the energetic constraint on the maximization of biomass diversity to be the constancy of the mean metabolic rate of the ecosystem. A PAF antagonist blocks antigen-induced airway hyperresponsiveness and inflammation in sheep 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We studied the effects of WEB-2086, a specific antagonist of platelet-activating factor (PAF), on the development of antigen-induced airway hyperresponsiveness and inflammation in sheep (n = 8). For these studies, airway responsiveness was determined from slopes of carbachol dose-response curves (DRC) performed at base line (prechallenge) and 2 h after Ascaris suum antigen challenges in the following three protocols: 1) antigen challenge alone (control trial), 2) WEB-2086 (1 mg/kg iv) given 30 min before antigen challenge (WEB pretreatment), and 3) WEB-2086 given 2 h after antigen challenge, immediately before the postchallenge DRC (WEB posttreatment). Airway inflammation was assessed by bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) before antigen challenge and after the postchallenge DRC for each trial. A. suum challenge resulted in acute increases in specific lung resistance that were not different among the three trials. Antigen challenge (control trial) caused a 93% increase (P less than 0.05) in the slope of the carbachol DRC when compared with the prechallenge value. WEB pretreatment (1 mg/kg) reduced (P less than 0.05) this antigen-induced hyperresponsiveness, whereas pretreatment with a 3-mg/kg dose completely prevented it. WEB posttreatment was ineffective in blocking this hyperresponsiveness. BAL neutrophils increased after antigen challenge in the control trial and when WEB-2086 was given after antigen challenge (P less than 0.05). Pretreatment with WEB-2086 (1 or 3 mg/kg) prevented this neutrophilia. This study provides indirect evidence for antigen-induced PAF release in vivo and for a role of endogenous PAF in the modulation of airway responsiveness and airway inflammation after antigen-induced bronchoconstriction in sheep. 相似文献

Summary A combination of two monoclonal antibodies and high resolution immunocytochemical technique was applied to label estrogen receptors in spontaneous mouse mammary tumors. Protein A-colloidal gold complex was used as an electron opaque marker. With this procedure estrogen receptors were labelled in the nuclei of cancer cells, predominantly over heterochromatin. In the cytoplasm a slight tagging of the rough endoplasmic reticulum was detected, apparently related with the sites of receptor biosynthesis. Other organelles and the mammary tumor viruses (MuMTV) were not stained immunocytochemically.The immunocytochemical procedure applied in this investigation allowed the detection of low levels of estrogen receptors in an estrogen-unresponsive mammary carcinoma. The presence of estrogen receptors with a specific distribution in estrogen-independent tumors suggests the need of a reevaluation of their capacity as indicators of hormone-dependence in mammary carcinomas. 相似文献

Samples of the microalgaBotryococcus braunii were submitted to supercritical fluid extraction with carbon dioxide at 40 °C and pressures of 12.5, 20.0 and 30.0 MPa. The extraction yield and the fraction of the hydrocarbons in the extracts both increased with pressure and at 30 MPa these compounds were obtained rapidly. This behaviour is associated with the localization of the hydrocarbons outside the cell wall.
