AbstractObjective: The aims of this study are to investigate the association between: (i) forward head posture (FHP) and pressure pain thresholds (PPTs); (ii) FHP and maladaptive cognitive processes; and (iii) FHP and neck pain characteristics in university students with subclinical neck pain.Materials/methods: A total of 140 university students, 90 asymptomatic and 50 with subclinical neck pain, entered the study. Demographic data, anthropometric data, FHP, and PPTs were collected for both groups. In addition, pain characteristics, pain catastrophizing, and fear of movement were assessed for participants with neck pain. FHP was characterized by the angle between C7, the tragus of the ear, and the horizontal line. Correlation analysis and multivariate regression analysis were conducted.Results: Participants with subclinical neck pain showed significantly lower PPTs than participants without neck pain (p?<?.05), but similar FHP (p?>?.05). No significant association was found between FHP and PPTs in the asymptomatic group. In the group of participants with subclinical neck pain, PPTs at the right trapezius and neck pain duration explained 19% of the variance of FHP (R2?=?0.23; adjusted R2?=?0.19; p?<?.05).Conclusion: This study suggests that FHP is not associated with PPTs in asymptomatic university students. In university students with subclinical neck pain, increased FHP was associated with right trapezius hypoalgesia and with neck pain of shorter duration. Increased membrane unsaturation has been associated with shorter longevity due to higher sensitivity to lipid peroxidation (LP) leading to enhanced mitochondrial dysfunction and ROS overproduction. However, the role of LP during aging has been put in doubt along with the participation of electron leak at the electron transport chain (ETC) in ROS generation in aged organisms. Thus, to test these hypothesis and gain further information about how minimizing LP preserves ETC function during aging, we studied the effects of α-linolenic acid (C18:3) on in situ mitochondrial ETC function, ROS production and viability of chronologically aged cells of S. cerevisiae, whose membranes are intrinsically resistant to LP due to the lack of PUFA. Increased sensitivity to LP was observed in cells cultured with C18:3 at 6 days of aging. This was associated with higher viability loss, dissipated membrane potential, impaired respiration and increased ROS generation, being these effects more evident at 28 days. However, at this point, lower sensitivity to LP was observed without changes in the membrane content of C18:3, suggesting the activation of a mechanism counteracting LP. The cells without C18:3 display better viability and mitochondrial functionality with lower ROS generation even at 28 days of aging and this was attributed to full preservation of complex III activity. These results indicate that the presence of PUFA in membranes enhances ETC dysfunction and electron leak and suggest that complex III is crucial to preserve membrane potential and to maintain a low rate of ROS production during aging. 相似文献

Identification of Anopheles nuneztovari Gabaldón and An. goeldii Rozeboom and Gabaldón based on the male genitalia traits is discussed. An. goeldii is in the synonymy of An. nuneztovari, however, characters of the aedeagus of male genitalia distinguish both species. We hypothesize that An. goeldii may be a valid species, however, further studies using molecular characters, especially ITS2 rDNA sequences will be necessary to elucidate the taxonomic status of the species. Calodium hepaticum (syn. Capillaria hepatica) is a
nematode of the Capillariidae family that infects rodents and other mammals. In
Brazil, human spurious infections of C. hepaticum have been detected
in indigenous or rural communities from the Amazon Basin, but not in the southern
states of the country. Here, we report the highest occurrence (13.5% of 37 residents)
of C. hepaticum human spurious infection detected in Brazil and the
first record in a southern region, Guaraqueçaba. The finding is explained by the area
being located in the Atlantic Forest of the state of Paraná, surrounded by preserved

During meiosis, accurate chromosome segregation relies on the proper interaction between homologous chromosomes, including synapsis and recombination. The meiotic recombination checkpoint is a quality control mechanism that monitors those crucial events. In response to defects in synapsis and/or recombination, this checkpoint blocks or delays progression of meiosis, preventing the formation of aberrant gametes. Meiotic recombination occurs in the context of chromatin and histone modifications, which play crucial roles in the maintenance of genomic integrity. Here, we unveil the role of Dot1-dependent histone H3 methylation at lysine 79 (H3K79me) in this meiotic surveillance mechanism. We demonstrate that the meiotic checkpoint function of Dot1 relies on H3K79me because, like the dot1 deletion, H3-K79A or H3-K79R mutations suppress the checkpoint-imposed meiotic delay of a synapsis-defective zip1 mutant. Moreover, by genetically manipulating Dot1 catalytic activity, we find that the status of H3K79me modulates the meiotic checkpoint response. We also define the phosphorylation events involving activation of the meiotic checkpoint effector Mek1 kinase. Dot1 is required for Mek1 autophosphorylation, but not for its Mec1/Tel1-dependent phosphorylation. Dot1-dependent H3K79me also promotes Hop1 activation and its proper distribution along zip1 meiotic chromosomes, at least in part, by regulating Pch2 localization. Furthermore, HOP1 overexpression bypasses the Dot1 requirement for checkpoint activation. We propose that chromatin remodeling resulting from unrepaired meiotic DSBs and/or faulty interhomolog interactions allows Dot1-mediated H3K79-me to exclude Pch2 from the chromosomes, thus driving localization of Hop1 along chromosome axes and enabling Mek1 full activation to trigger downstream responses, such as meiotic arrest. 相似文献

Phosphatidylcholine (PC) alone or with phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) are sufficient for the reconstitution of Na+ channels in planar lipid bilayers. However, when Na+ channels were first reconstituted into liposomes using the freeze-thaw-sonication method, addition of acidic phospholipids, such as phosphatidylserine (PS), to the neutral phospholipids was necessary to obtain a significant toxin-modulated 22Na uptake. To further investigate the acidic phospholipid effect on reconstitution into liposomes, Na+ channels purified from Electrophorus electricus electrocytes were reconstituted into liposomes of different composition by freeze-thaw sonication and the effect of batrachotoxin and tetrodotoxin on the 22Na flux was measured. The results revealed that, under our experimental conditions, the presence of an acidic phospholipid was also necessary to obtain a significant neurotoxin-modulated 22Na influx. Though neurotoxin-modulated 22Na fluxes have been reported in proteoliposomes made with purified Na+ channels and PC alone, the 22Na fluxes were smaller than those found using lipid mixtures containing acidic phospholipids. Electron microscopy of negatively stained proteoliposomes prepared with PC, PC/PS (1:1 molar ratio), and PS revealed that the acidic phospholipid increases the size of the reconstituted proteoliposomes. The increment in size caused by the acidic phospholipid, due to the associated increase in internal volume for 22Na uptake and in area for Na+ channel incorporation, appears to be responsible for the large neurotoxin-modulated 22Na fluxes observed. 相似文献

To analyse the population structure and reproductive biology of the Iberian hareLepus granatensis Rosenhauer, 1856, 498 hares (264 males and 234 females) were collected in monthly samples from October 1998 to September
1999. Females reached larger sizes than males, with approximately 400 g difference in body mass on reaching sexual maturity.
The total sex ratio was 1∶1, with a bias in favour of males in winter. Sexually active males and females appeared in every
month but August, when no sexually active female was found. Births occurred in every month and were more frequent between
March and July. Seasonal variation in kidney fat index (KFI) followed a similar pattern in males and females, with an increase
in mid-autumn and a decline at the end of winter. Reproductive activity appeared in every month, with a maximum from February
to June. Reproductively hyperactive females (simultaneously pregnant and nursing) appeared in every month except in January,
with a first peak in March and a second lower peak in May–June. Litter size fluctuated between 1 and 7 leverets. The most
frequent gestations involved 1 or 2 foetuses. The mean annual litter size was 2.08 and the average number of litters per productive
female per year was estimated to be 3.48. The maximum productivity was recorded between March and May. The total annual production
of young per adult female was estimated to be 7.21. The minimum annual survival rate of young was 27.91%. On the basis of
these results we propose to maintain the limit of the hunting period between October and December. We discuss the relationship
