Ribulose-l,5-diphosphate (RuDP) carboxylase protein and activitywere determined in relation to net photosynthetic rate duringthe senescence of intact flag leaves of wheat on the plant.Initially the decrease in RuDP carboxylase activity was greaterthan the decline in net photosynthesis. The major decrease inRuDP carboxylase activity over this period resulted from a decreasein enzyme specific activity from 11 to 2 µmol CO2 fixedh1 mg1 protein. Loss of RuDP carboxylase proteindid not occur until late in senescence by which time chlorophyllconcentration had decreased by more than 50%. Treatment of flagleaves at weekly intervals with either 1000 parts 1062-chloro-ethyltrimethylammonium chloride or 100 parts 106gibberellic acid with 1 part 106 kinetin did not significantlyaffect net photosynthetic rate, RuDP carboxylase protein oractivity during senescence. 相似文献

Plants of the halophyte Suaeda maritima were grown in tap wateror in a culture solution in the presence or absence of sodiumchloride and the levels of sugars, amino acids, organic acidsand quaternary ammonium compounds determined in relation tothe balance between cytoplasmic and vacuolar water potentials.The sugar content (some 7 µmol. g f. wt1) was unaffectedby the salinity of the growth medium as was the overall contentof amino acids (about 4 µmol. g f. wt1). The organicacid content was maximal in plants kept in tap water alone wherethe dominant acid was malic. Plants grown in culture solutioncontained the same acids, although addition of sodium chlorideto the medium brought about the apparent loss of glycolic acidand the appearance of oxalic acid. Only a single quaternaryammonium compound, glycinebetaine, was apparently present inthe tissues: the content of betaine doubled (to 37·5µrmol. g f. wt) when sodium chloride was addedto the culture solution. Abstract. A revision of the Charis cleonus group of Neotropical riodinid butterflies is presented, including discussions on the taxonomy, biogeography and biology of its species, and illustrations of the adults and male and female genitalia (where known) of all taxa. We recognize twenty-two species, including nineteen new species: C. ariquemes sp.n., C. brasilia sp.n., C. breves sp.n., C. cacaulandia sp.n., C. cuiaba sp.n., C. humaita sp.n., C. ipiranga sp.n., C. iquitos sp.n., C. ma sp.n., C. manicore sp.n., C. manu sp.n., C. matic sp.n., C. maues sp.n., C. negro sp.n., C. palcazu sp.n., C. rocana sp.n., C. santarem sp.n., C. tapajos sp.n and C. tefe sp.n. A cladistic analysis using thirty-six characters of male and female genitalia and external facies generated a single most parsimonious cladogram highlighting the existence of two clades, the major and cleonus subgroups. As each species largely occupies a parapatric range, this cladogram provides the opportunity to reassess historical relationships among areas of endemism in the Amazon basin. 相似文献

The sub-cellular localization of acid phosphatase and peroxidaseactivities has been studied by cytochemical procedures in cellsat the surface of the separation layer during the abscissionof leaves of Phaseolus vulgaris. Intense staining for both enzymeswas found in the cell walls, Golgi bodies and endoplasmic reticulum.The wall staining for acid phosphatase was chiefly associatedwith the middle lamellar region while staining for peroxidasewas found throughout the wall.
