The growth response ofCalopogonium caeruleum, a leguminous covercrop in plantation agriculture, to inoculation with two vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal (VAM) fungi was
investigated in five phosphorus (P)-deficient soils supplied with various levels of rock phosphate. Significant shoot yield
increases over the uninoculated controls were obtained in most sterilised or unsterilised soils at all applied P levels, although
the inoculant VAM fungi differed in their effectiveness in the soils used. Responses in mycorrhizal root infections, P and
nitrogen (N) concentrations in tops and plant nodulation varied. The results are discussed in relation to the edaphic environment

The metabolic fate of isatin hydrazone (Ia), isatin-3-thiosemicarbazone (Ib), isatin-3-semicarbazone (Ic), isatin-3-phenylhydrazone (Id), isatin oxime (Ie) and 3-hydroxy-3-acetonyl oxindole (II) was studied in rabbits. The compounds were administered orally in the dose of 300 mg/kg body wt. Isatin anthranilic acid, tryptophan and nicotinic acid were identified as the major metabolites excreted in urine. The 3-hydroxy-3-acetonyl oxindole (II) gave on additional metabolite, oxindole. The major metabolites were separated and identified unambiguously on thin layer silica gel plate. Metabolic pathways have been proposed to explain the biotransformation of the compounds investigated. 相似文献

There are some papers in the literature on the trace element contents of fetal livers of 20-wk gestation time and over. However,
there is very little information on this subject for fetal livers of less than 20-wk gestation. We have initiated a program
on the measurement of trace elements in fetal livers of 12–22-wk gestation, using thick-target X-ray fluorescence analysis.
The liver samples were obtained from freshly aborted fetuses. After removing blood from the samples, they were chopped into
small pieces and freeze dried. The resulting material was ground into fine powder and compressed into 3-mm thick pellets,
with boric acid backing. A similar pellet was also made of NBS—Bovine Liver—which was used as the standard for calculating
the absolute concentrations of different trace elements.
The measurements were carried out using a commercial Wave-Length-Dispersive XRF-System. Different X-ray tubes were used for
different sets of elements in order to maximize the detection sensitivity. The results are compared with those of fetal liver

Secretion of TNF from mouse peritoneal macrophages exposed to LPS in vitro was enhanced in the presence of H2O2 or sodium periodate. Neither of these agents induced release of TNF in the absence of LPS. Both iron chelators and free radical scavengers inhibited this enhanced secretion of TNF, implying the involvement of free radicals via a Fenton-type reaction. Oxidant stress, in the form of alloxan or divicine, also enhanced serum levels of TNF in mice made sensitive to LPS by low-level infection with malaria, and then given i.v. LPS. Pretreatment with the iron chelator, desferal, or the free radical scavenger, BHA, inhibited TNF release in these animals. Less TNF was also detected in mice given desferal before LPS in the absence of exogenous radical generator. These results could have implications for understanding the details of the MLR, the adherence of neutrophils to the walls of pulmonary vessels in free radical-induced lung pathology, and the side effects of bleomycin. 相似文献
