The prevalence of self-medication (SM) has increased in health professionals due to awareness of disease and symptoms. Incorrect use of medication caused harmful effects. To assess the knowledge, attitude and practice of health professionals, this survey was conducted. A cross-sectional study was carried out among health professionals of different specialities. Knowledge, attitude and practice-based questions were asked through an electronically distributed questionnaire. Data were statistically tested using the Chi-square test with SPSS. Most of the health professionals were aware with the term of self-medication; however the knowledge about related questions was not satisfactory. Almost half of the participants practiced self-medication. The prevalence of self-medication among participants was high. They need to be trained and educate about the incorrect use of self-medication.  相似文献

AIMS: Combinations of PCR primer sets were evaluated to establish a multiplex PCR method to specifically detect Escherichia coli O157:H7 genes in bovine faecal samples. METHODS AND RESULTS: A multiplex PCR method combining three primer sets for the E. coli O157:H7 genes rfbE, uidA and E. coli H7 fliC was developed and tested for sensitivity and specificity with pure cultures of 27 E. coli serotype O157 strains, 88 non-O157 E. coli strains, predominantly bovine in origin and five bacterial strains other than E. coli. The PCR method was very specific in the detection of E. coli O157:H7 and O157:H- strains, and the detection limit in seeded bovine faecal samples was <10 CFU g(-1) faeces, following an 18-h enrichment at 37 degrees C, and could be performed using crude DNA extracts as template. CONCLUSIONS: A new multiplex PCR method was developed to detect E. coli O157:H7 and O157:H-, and was shown to be highly specific and sensitive for these strains both in pure culture and in crude DNA extracts prepared from inoculated bovine faecal samples. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: This new multiplex PCR method is suitable for the rapid detection of E. coli O157:H7 and O157:H- genes in ruminant faecal samples.  相似文献

Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) is widely used as an antioxidant for the treatment of diabetes and its complications; however, the pro-oxidant potential of ALA has recently been reported. This study was designed to investigate whether ALA supplementation could have pro-oxidant effects on cardiac tissues in normal and diabetic rats. Diabetes was induced by a single dose of streptozotocin (STZ; 55 mg/kg (intraperitoneal). Diabetic and normal rats were treated with ALA (100 mg kg?1 day?1) for 45 days. ALA supplementation resulted in oxidative protein damage as evident by significant reduction in the cardiac levels of protein thiol in ALA-treated normal rats (P?<?0.01) together with a significant elevation (P?<?0.001) in the plasma levels of advanced oxidation protein products in ALA-treated normal rats and in ALA?+?STZ-diabetic rats compared with the normal control rats. Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase has emerged as the major source of superoxide anion and enhanced oxidative damage in heart failure. ALA supplementation increased the myocardial immunoreactivity of p47phox subunit of NADPH oxidase in both normal nondiabetic and diabetic rats reflecting its pro-oxidant effect. Data showed that ALA supplementation failed to prevent cardiac complications in diabetic rats and led to cardiac toxicity in normal rats as indicated by pathological changes (cellular infiltration, fibrosis, and degeneration) and by the elevation of serum cardiac biomarkers compared with normal controls. The pro-oxidant effects of ALA suggest that careful selection of appropriate doses of ALA in reactive oxygen species-related diseases are critical.  相似文献

Testicular torsion (TT) is a urologic emergency that may result in future infertility problems. The pathologic process of TT is similar to an ischemia reperfusion injury (IRI). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) on reversing the damaging consequences of TT-induced IRI by examining its inhibitory effects on the expression of inflammatory and apoptosis mediators in a unilateral TT rat model. Eighteen male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into 3 groups. Group 1 underwent a sham operation of the left testis under general anesthesia. Group 2 underwent ischemia for 1h followed by 4h reperfusion in the presence of saline. The third group was similar to group 2, however, EGCG (50 mg/kg) was injected i.p. 30 min after ischemia induction. The in vivo protective effect of EGCG was tested by measuring testicular levels of TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-1β by ELISA and mRNA expression of iNOS, MCP-1, p53, Bax, Bcl-2 and survivin by real-time PCR. Also, testicular morphological changes and damage to spermatogenesis were evaluated using H&E staining and Johnsen's scoring system, respectively. EGCG treatment improved testicular structures in the ipsilateral testis, markedly inhibited germ cell apoptosis (GCA) and significantly decreased testicular cytokine levels. In addition, EGCG was able to down regulate the mRNA expression of iNOS, MCP-1 and pro-apoptosis genes in favor of cell survival. For the first time we show that in vivo EGCG treatment rescued the torsed testes from IRI-induced inflammation, GCA and damage to spermatogenesis thus suggesting a new preventive approach to inhibiting the inflammatory and apoptotic consequences of TT-induced IRI.  相似文献
