The present fMRI study compares regional distribution of the cortical activity during the execution of unilateral hand movements (finger-to-thumb opposition) preceded or not by their motor simulation (S + E and E condition, respectively). The results show that, overall, the number and the spatial distribution of activated voxels are both increased in the S + E with respect to the E condition. The motor performance preceded by mental rehearsal is related to selective increase of the cortical activity. Among the motor areas that are found active during the simple motor execution a significant enhancement of functional activation during the S + E condition ipsilateral primary motor regions (M1). The activity increase may be accounted by a sort of neural recruiting that is made possible by the overlapping of cortical networks involved in both motor output and motor imagery. The beneficial effects of "mental practice" on the physical performance may rely to the close temporal association between motor rehearsal and actual performance.  相似文献

This work investigates the neural correlates of single-letter reading by combining event-related potentials (ERPs) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), thus exploiting their complementary spatiotemporal resolutions. Three externally-paced reading tasks were administered with an event-related design: passive observation of letters and symbols and active reading aloud of letters. ERP and fMRI data were separately recorded from 8 healthy adults during the same experimental conditions. Due to the presence of artifacts in the EEG signals, two subjects were discarded from further analysis. Independent Component Analysis was applied to ERPs, after dimensionality reduction by Principal Component Analysis: some independent components were clearly related to specific reading functions and the associated current density distributions in the brain were estimated with Low Resolution Electromagnetic Tomography Analysis method (LORETA). The impulse hemodynamic response function was modeled as a linear combination of linear B-spline functions and fMRI statistical analysis was performed by multiple linear regression. fMRI and LORETA maps were superimposed in order to identify the overlapping activations and the activated regions specifically revealed by each modality. The results showed the existence of neuronal networks functionally specific for letter processing and for explicit verbal-motor articulation, including the temporo-parietal and frontal regions. Overlap between fMRI and LORETA results was observed in the inferior temporal-middle occipital gyrus, suggesting that this area has a crucial and multifunctional role for linguistic and reading processes, likely because its spatial location and strong interconnection with the main visual and auditory sensory systems may have favored its specialization in grapheme-phoneme matching.  相似文献

Sleep disturbances are found in the course of most dementing syndromes. We report a longitudinal polysomnographic and 18FDG-PET study in a 38-year-old male with FTDP17 carrying the Tau gene mutation G389R. All-night sleep EEG and wake cerebral glucose metabolism at rest (eyes/ears covered) of the preceding day were studied twice, eight months (Night 1; PET 1) and sixteen months (Night 2; PET 2) after the initial neurological evaluation. The Night 1 study showed sleep fragmentation associated to a short REM latency and a severe reduction of slow wave sleep, with relatively preserved NREM-REM sleep cycles; daytime PET 1 revealed severe cerebral glucose metabolic reductions in frontal and temporal areas, with relative preservation of remaining cortical regions and subcortical structures. On Night 2, the total sleep time was less than 5 hours, delta sleep and REM latency remained shortened and only two sleep cycles could be identified; daytime PET 2 exam revealed a greater cortical metabolic impairment and an involvement of subcortical brain regions as compared to PET 1. Post-mortem neuropathological data showed severe neuronal loss, spongiosis and gliosis that were mostly marked in cortical layers I, II, V and VI. In vivo, neurometabolic and post-mortem neuropathological data are consistent with and indicative of a severe dysfunction of intra- and trans-hemispheric regional connectivity and of cortico-thalamic circuits. These findings suggest that the decreased cortical and subcortical connectivity may have been the main pathophysiological mechanism responsible for delta sleep reduction and the cognitive decline.  相似文献

Fibroblast-like cells were obtained by in vitro cultivation of needle aspirations of human bone-marrow. These cells show a unique composition of coat-associated glycosaminoglycans: 10% chondroitin 4-sulfate, 30% hyaluronic acid and 60% heparan sulfate which were resolved and characterized by electrophoresis, nitrous acid treatment and enzymatic degradation. Chondroitin 4-sulfate is the only glycoaminoglycan detectable on the surface of mature granulocytes, whereas the immature cells do not seem to possess surface glycoaminoglycans. Immature hemopoietic cells can adhere on to marrow-derived fibroblast cells, whereas mature granulocytes cannot. Treatment with mucopolysaccharidases of both mature leukocytes and marrow stromal cells can interfere in these adhesive relationships, suggesting a role of glycoaminoglycans in regulating short-range interactions during hematopoiesis.  相似文献

Degradation and detoxification of textile dyes are of interest due to the huge environmental impact of such chemicals. An isolate of Fusarium oxysporum was used to degrade and to detoxify a new chemical class of textile dyes called Glycoconjugate Azo Dye (GAD). After 6 d of growth in a liquid batch culture, the fungus degraded the dye and the culture medium at the end of incubation period showed a ?100% detoxification compared to the initial dye solution. Increasing the initial fungal inoculum, the dye was totally decolourized after 24 h of incubation. The degradation ability was found to be common among various isolates of F. oxysporum suggesting this as a specific trait of this species. Degrading rate was enhanced in concomitancy to the glucose depletion and the beginning of the stationary phase of growth, suggesting that the shift from the primary to the secondary metabolism may be the trigger of the degradation pathway. The Daphnia magna acute toxicity test demonstrated a strong detoxification of GAD-4 by F. oxysporum, resulting in non-toxic metabolite production. Fusarium oxysporum could, therefore, be taken into consideration to develop new remediation strategies of textile effluents.  相似文献

The aim of the experiment was to study whether the activity of the primary sensory-motor (S1/M1), supplementary motor (SMA) and pre-motor (PMA) areas during fingers movement is modulated by hypnotic susceptibility and hypnosis. Cortical activity was studied through functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) during a finger-to-thumb opposition task in awake (Highs) and hypnotized highly susceptible (H-Highs) as well as in awake non susceptible subjects (Lows). Results did not show any significant difference in sensory-motor areas activation between Highs and Lows (trait effect) and between Highs and H-Highs (state effect). The activation in 3 subjects among Highs and only 1 among Lows (out of 5) of the caudal S1, receiving the most part of the cutaneous input, appears noteworthy and prompts further investigation on possible hypnotizability-related differences in sensory-motor integration.  相似文献

Partially protected derivatives of l-ribo- and d-lyxo-aldohexos-5-ulose have been prepared starting from triacetonlactose dimethyl acetal derivatives. Key steps of the synthetic sequences are (a) the synthesis of 4′-deoxy-4′-eno- and 6′-deoxy-5′-eno lactose derivatives, and (b) the epoxidation-methanolysis of the above-mentioned enol ethers to give 1,5-bis-glycopyranosides, masked form of the target 1,5-dicarbonyl hexoses.  相似文献

Twenty two cases of nosocomial infection caused by Trichosporon asahii, detected during a period of six years (1999-2005) is described. The patients were predominantly males with an average age of 47.3 years-old. The predominant diseases in the study group were respiratory insufficiency, cancer, diabetes, chronic renal insufficiency, cirrhosis and AIDS. The main predisposing conditions were antibiotic therapy, mechanical ventilation, urethral catheterization, catheter, corticoids, transplant, immunosuppressive therapy, chemotherapy, granulocytopenia, surgical procedures and continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis. The most used antifungal drugs were fluconazole and amphotericin B. In some cases several antifungals were administered. Five patients did not receive antifungal treatment, and one patient received granulocyte colony stimulating factor (G-CSF). Nine patients showed clinical improvement, nine died and the progress of four patients is unknown. T. asahii is an emergent pathogen in patients with immunodeficiency and its presence in these type hosts can not be considered colonization, as there is an important risk of invasive infection. So, in susceptible patients to develop trichosporonosis it is advisable to take into consideration this disease especially in intensive clinical care units.  相似文献

Background

The insertion/deletion polymorphism in the gene encoding the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE I/D) was associated with arterial hypertension and obesity in adults, but the data in children are scarce and yielded contrasting results. We assessed the impact of the ACE I/D on blood pressure and obesity related traits in a Brazilian cohort of obese children and adolescents.

Methods and results

ACE I/D was genotyped in 320 obese children and adolescents (64% of girls) aged 7–16 years, referred for a weight-loss program. We observed an association of the D-allele with blood pressure and with pre-hypertension/hypertension in boys (odds ratio 2.44, 95% C.I. 1.34–4.68, p = 0.005 for a codominant model). The D-allele, insulin resistance and body fat mass had independent and additive effects and explained 14% of the variance of pre-hypertension/hypertension. The BMI, waist circumference, and body fat mass were significantly higher in DD/ID boys than in II boys (p < 0.005). Allelic associations with obesity related traits were independent of the association with blood pressure. No genotype associations were observed in girls.

Conclusions

The D-allele of the ACE I/D polymorphism was associated with arterial hypertension and with obesity related traits in boys, but not in girls, in a cohort of obese children and adolescents. These associations were independent of each other, as well as of the effects of other confounding traits such as insulin secretion, insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance. Our results are in agreement with experimental evidences suggesting that the renin–angiotensin system plays a role in the regulation of visceral adipose tissue accumulation.  相似文献
