We perform first principles total energy calculations to investigate the atomic structures of the adsorption of phenol (C6H5OH) on hexagonal boron nitride (BN) sheets. Calculations are done within the density functional theory as implemented in the DMOL code. Electron-ion interactions are modeled according to the local-spin-density-approximation (LSDA) method with the Perdew-Wang parametrization. Our studies take into account the hexagonal h-BN sheets and the modified by defects d-BN sheets. The d-BN sheets are composed of one hexagon, three pentagons and three heptagons. Five different atomic structures are investigated: parallel to the sheet, perpendicular to the sheet at the B site, perpendicular to the sheet at the N site, perpendicular to the central hexagon and perpendicular to the B-N bond (bridge site). To determine the structural stability we apply the criteria of minimum energy and vibration frequency. After the structural relaxation phenol molecules adsorb on both h-BN and d-BN sheets. Results of the binding energies indicate that phenol is chemisorbed. The polarity of the system increases as a consequence of the defects presence which induces transformation from an ionic to covalent bonding. The elastic properties on the BN structure present similar behavior to those reported in the literature for graphene.  相似文献

Rice fields are an alternative habitat for waterbirds and provide food and shelter for many avian species, but there is a lack of information about how the use of rice fields translates into population level effects. The aim of this study was to test the relationship between the use of rice fields by European waterbirds and trends in their populations. We tested this relationship during the autumn migration season and during the breeding season. Based on counts conducted over the last 23 years in natural marshes and areas of rice fields in Doñana (SW Spain), an index of rice field use was constructed for 76 bird species, which was then compared to these species’ European population trends obtained from the literature. A positive relationship was found between waterbird population trends and the use of rice fields during autumn migration season. Our study suggests that changes in the Common Agriculture Policy in Europe leading to reductions in areas of rice cultivation may have important effects on waterbirds. The restoration of former marsh areas and the maintenance of rice cultivation would seem to be more environmentally friendly approaches than the use of these areas to grow alternative crops or solar farms.  相似文献

Indoleacetic acid (IAA), a factor that induces growth in epicotyls of cicer arietinum L. cv. Castellana, increases the autolytic capacity of the cell walls by 50%, suggesting that autolysis is related to the processes of cell wall loosening that accompany growth. IAA promotes an increase in the specific activities of the enzymes involved in autolysis, mainly α-galactosidase (EC 3.2.1.22). This relationship autolysis-growth. was also observed in a study of the autolytic capacity of cell walls from regions of the epicotyl with different growth capacity. The sugars released and the level of enzymatic protein were higher in the subapical region that towards the base.  相似文献

A novel class of small nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs), encoded in introns of protein coding genes and originating from processing of their precursor molecules, has recently been described. The L1 ribosomal protein (r-protein) gene of Xenopus laevis and its human homologue contain two snoRNAs, U16 and U18. It has been shown that these snoRNAs are excised from their intron precursors by endonucleolytic cleavage and that their processing is alternative to splicing. Two sequences, internal to the snoRNA coding region, have been identified as indispensable for processing the conserved boxes C and D. Competition experiments have shown that these sequences interact with diffusible factors which can bind both the pre-mRNA and the mature U16 snoRNA. Fibrillarin, which is known to associate with complexes formed on C and D boxes of other snoRNAs, is found in association with mature U16 RNA, as well as with its precursor molecules. This fact suggests that the complex formed on the pre-mRNA remains bound to U16 throughout all the processing steps. We also show that the complex formed on the C and D boxes is necessary to stabilize mature snoRNA.  相似文献

A family of dispersed repetitive sequences (Hch1) which is present in the genome of the wild barley Hordeum chilense was studied in detail. Hch1 sequences are found both as part of short tandem arrays and dispersed throughout the H. chilense chromosomes. Subcloning of sections of the sequence reveals that it is composed of unrelated classes of sequences which can also be found separately in other genomic locations. Analysis of these sequences in the genomes of wheat and two other wild barley species strongly suggests that specific amplifications and arrangements of the repeated sequences have taken place during speciation. Nucleotide sequence analysis fails to detect, in their entirity, the features shown by plant transposons.  相似文献

Teratocarcinoma-derived growth factor-1 (Tdgf1), a member of the ``EGF family' of growth factors, is expressed during mouse gastrulation in the forming mesoderm and later in the truncus arteriosus of the developing heart. In humans, TDGF1 is highly expressed in germ cell tumors and in colon and mammary carcinomas. In mouse, one gene (Tdgf1) and two pseudogenes (Tdgf1-ps1 and Tdgf1-ps2) have been isolated and characterized. Tdgf1 corresponds to the gene expressed in F9 teratocarcinoma cells. Tdgf1-ps1 and Tdgf1-ps2 are two intronless sequences with all the characteristics of retroposons. In the present paper, we assign the chromosomal location for Tdgf1, Tdgf1-ps1, and Tdgf1-ps2 sequences to Chromosomes (Chrs) 9, 16, and 17, respectively. Two previously described mouse mutants, scant hair (sch) and fur deficient (fd), map near the Tdgf1 gene. Analysis of their DNA coding region provided no evidence that Tdgf1 could be the responsible gene for these phenotypes. Finally, analysis of the DNA from several Mus musculus strains and from Mus spretus mice revealed a highly variable restriction pattern and the absence of the Tdgf1-ps1 genomic sequence from the Mus spretus genome. A fractionation of non-cellulosic sugars of Oryza sativa L. coleoptile cell walls was carried out and the composition of each fraction was studied during coleoptile growth.Percentages of fractions extracted with boiling water and with oxalate (pectic substances) were almost constant throughout development. An increase in the K II hemicellulosic fraction (extracted with 24% KOH) content, and a decrease in the K I hemicellulosic fraction (extracted with 10% KOH) were detected, when coleoptile growth finished.The percentage of glucose content in the K I hemicellulosic fraction was highest in young coleoptiles and lowest in old ones. The progenitors of cerebellar GABAergic interneurons proliferate up to postnatal development in the prospective white matter, where they give rise to different neuronal subtypes, in defined quantities and according to precise spatiotemporal sequences. To investigate the mechanisms that regulate the specification of distinct interneuron phenotypes, we examined mice lacking the G1 phase-active cyclin D2. It has been reported that these mice show severe reduction of stellate cells, the last generated interneuron subtype. We found that loss of cyclin D2 actually impairs the whole process of interneuron genesis. In the mutant cerebella, progenitors of the prospective white matter show reduced proliferation rates and enhanced tendency to leave the cycle, whereas young postmitotic interneurons undergo severe delay of their maturation and migration. As a consequence, the progenitor pool is precociously exhausted and the number of interneurons is significantly reduced, although molecular layer interneurons are more affected than those of granular layer or deep nuclei. The characteristic inside-out sequence of interneuron placement in the cortical layers is also reversed, so that later born cells occupy deeper positions than earlier generated ones. Transplantation experiments show that the abnormalities of cyclin D2(-/-) interneurons are largely caused by cell-autonomous mechanisms. Therefore, cyclin D2 is not required for the specification of particular interneuron subtypes. Loss of this protein, however, disrupts regulatory mechanisms of cell cycle dynamics that are required to determine the numbers of interneurons of different types and impairs their rhythm of maturation and integration in the cerebellar circuitry.  相似文献
