The paper describes the evolution and consequences of different modes of eliminating orbital bottom defects and deformities that develop in posttraumatic deformities due to bone fractures of the facial mid-skeleton. Spiral computed tomography of this portion of the facial skeleton has demonstrated that the optimum results of restoration of the orbital bottom and those of elimination of eyeball displacement give the use of osteoplasty with a split parietal bone graft.  相似文献

Golgi-stained preparations were processed with computerized morphometry to study the effect of the deprivation (eyes covered with nontransparent caps) on the development of neurons in the Wulst (the structure analogous to mammalian visual cortex) of pied flycatcher nestlings. Six-day-old nestlings that have only one form of the visual perception--diffuse photosensitivity--were studied. In the previous paper [Korneeva et al., 1994] in was shown that the Wulst of 6-day-old nestlings consisted of non-differentiated neurons and stellate-like cells at different stages of maturation; the latter group was subdivided into more- and less-mature cells. This work proved that even a 1.5-day-long deprivation (actual duration being counted off from the moment of appearance of the first retinal photoreceptors at the age of 4.5 days) resulted in significant changes in the geometry of stellate-like neurons. The changes in less-mature cells were predominantly destructive (decline of all quantitative indices of a cell, including the significant decrease in the total length of dendrites, maximal radius of the dendritic field and cell branching index), while the changes in more-mature cells were constructive (increase in all quantitative cell indices, including statistically significant increase in the soma section area, total length of dendrites, maximal radius of dendritic field and the number of foci of maximal branching). Different reactions of these cell types to the limitation of visual afferentation may be connected with differences in the afferent inflow to less- and more-mature cells or/and with different maturational stages of these neurons at the onset of deprivation.  相似文献

Influence of the polycythaemia on peritoneal and splenic macrophage function and NO production was studied. Interaction of peritoneal and splenic macrophages with autologous erythrocytes was examined. Concentration of nitrate ions (stable metabolites ofnitric oxide) was measured in peritoneal lavage, splenic cells suspension, blood, as well as in supernatant of peritoneal and splenic macrophages. The data obtained suggest that splenic macrophages from intact rats are more active than the peritoneal ones. Splenic macrophage activity decreases whereas that of peritoneal macrophages stays unaltered in polycythaemia. Concentration of nitrate ions is significantly increased in this condition.  相似文献

In studying NO-dependent mechanisms of resistance to hypoxia, it was shown that (1) acute hypoxia induces NO overproduction in brain and leaves unaffected NO production in liver of rats; (2) adaptation to hypoxia decreases NO production in liver and brain; and (3) adaptation to hypoxia prevents NO overproduction in brain and potentiates NO synthesis in liver in acute hypoxia. Dinitrosyl iron complex (DNIC, 200 microg/kg, single dose, iv), a NO donor, decreases the resistance of animals to acute hypoxia by 30%. Nomega-nitro-L-arginine (L-NNA, 50 mg/kg, single dose, ip), a NO synthase inhibitor, and diethyl dithiocarbamate (DETC, 200 mg/kg, single dose, iv), a NO trap, increases this parameter 1.3 and 2 times, respectively. Adaptation to hypoxia developed against a background of accumulation of heat shock protein HSP70 in liver and brain. A course of DNIC reproduced the antihypoxic effect of adaptation. A course of L-NNA during adaptation hampered both accumulation of HSP70 and development of the antihypoxic effect. Therefore, NO and the NO-dependent activation of HSP70 synthesis play important roles in adaptation to hypoxia.  相似文献

The twin‐arginine translocation system (Tat) transports folded proteins across the cytoplasmic membrane and is critical to virulence in Salmonella and other pathogens. Experimental and bioinformatic data indicate that 30 proteins are exported via Tat in Salmonella Typhimurium. However, there are no data linking specific Tat substrates with virulence. We inactivated every Tat‐exported protein and determined the virulence phenotype of mutant strains. Although a tat mutant is highly attenuated, no single Tat‐exported substrate accounts for this virulence phenotype. Rather, the attenuation is due primarily to envelope defects caused by failure to translocate three Tat substrates, the N‐acetylmuramoyl‐l ‐alanine amidases, AmiA and AmiC, and the cell division protein, SufI. Strikingly, neither the amiA amiC nor the sufI mutations alone conferred any virulence defect. Although AmiC and SufI have previously been localized to the divisome, the synthetic phenotypes observed are the first to suggest functional overlap. Many Tat substrates are involved in anaerobic respiration, but we show that a mutant completely deficient in anaerobic respiration retains full virulence in both the oral and systemic phases of infection. Similarly, an obligately aerobic mutant is fully virulent. These results suggest that in the classic mouse model of infection, S. Typhimurium is replicating only in aerobic environments.  相似文献
