The effects of drought on growth, protein content, lipid peroxidation, superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POX), catalase (CAT) and polyphenol oxidase (PPO) were studied in leaves and roots of Sesamum indicum L. cvs. Darab 14 and Yekta. Four weeks after sowing, plants were grown under soil moisture corresponding to 100, 75, 50 and 25 % field capacity for next four weeks. Fresh and dry masses, and total protein content in leaves and roots decreased obviously under drought. However, several new proteins appeared and content of some proteins was affected. Measurement of malondialdehyde content in leaves and roots showed that lipid peroxidation was lower in Yekta than in Darab 14. Severe stress increased SOD, POX, CAT and PPO activities in leaves and roots, especially in Yekta. According to the present study Yekta is more resistant to drought than Darab 14.  相似文献

The effect of salicylic acid (SA) counteracting the UV-A, UV-B, and UV-C-induced action on pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) plants was studied. For this purpose, the activities of antioxidant enzymes (peroxidase, polyphenol oxidase, ascorbate peroxidase, catalase, and glutathione reductase) were measured. Plants were sprayed with SA and treated with UV-A (320–390 nm), UV-B (312 nm), and UV-C (254 nm) radiation with a density of 6.1, 5.8, and 5.7 W/m2. The activities of antioxidant enzymes were enhanced in leaves in response to UV-B and UV-C radiation. SA treatment moderated an increase in the activities of some antioxidant enzymes (peroxidase, ascorbate peroxidase, catalase, and glutathione reductase) in plants that were treated with UV radiation. The activity of antioxidant enzyme polyphenol oxidase in plants that were treated with UV-B, UV-C, and SA was significantly increased. The aim of the present study was to investigate the possible protective effect of SA treatment on UV-A, UV-B, and UV-C stress.  相似文献

Mining activities produce waste tailings that can be a significant source of pollution in the surrounding ecosystem. This study was designed to estimate the magnitude of Fe, As, Pb, Cd, Mn, Ni, Zn, and Cr in soil impacted by activities in the Moeil iron ore mine area of northwestern Iran and initially assess the potential risk to nearby residents and ecological habitats. For this, concentrations of elements in 24 samples from 8 locations were analyzed by inductivity coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry. Concentrations of heavy metals reported for samples collected from the area ranged from 50,247–466,200 mg/kg for Fe, 40–10,827 mg/kg for As, 9–84 mg/kg for Pb, 0.2–58.4 mg/kg for Cd, 32–424 mg/kg for Mn, 4–32 mg/kg for Ni, 37–60 mg/kg for Zn, and 32–337 mg/kg for Cr. Reported levels of Fe and As in particular are indicative of severe contamination and imply a high risk to ecological receptors. Reported levels of arsenic also imply elevated cancer and non-cancer health risks to residents who work in or pass through the area. Reported levels of Cd and Cr in soil samples also indicate an elevated cancer risk posed by these metals. The result of this study indicates it is important to estimate potential contamination of soils and drinking water wills in the vicinity of Moeil village to arsenic and heavy metals.  相似文献

Two sets of experiments to determine the effect of mycorrhiza on soybean (Glycine max) growth under saline conditions and to investigate the salt acclimation of mycorrhizal fungi were conducted. In the first experiment, the effect of an arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungus Glomus etunicatum on mineral nutrient, proline and carbohydrate concentrations and growth of soybean. Under different NaCl concentrations (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200mM) was evaluated. Salinity decreased AM colonization. In both the M and nonAM plants shoot and root proline and shoot Na and Zn concentrations were increased under salinity. Soybean plants inoculated with the AM fungus had significantly higher fresh and dry weight, root proline, P, K and Zn but lower shoot proline and Na concentrations compared to the non inoculated plants. In the second experiment, the AM fungus was pre-treated with NaCl (salt acclimation) then was used as inoculum for soybean plants subjected to 100mM NaCl. Root colonization, fresh and dry weight, root proline, P, K and Zn concentrations were greater in soybean plants inoculated with the salt pre-treated fungus, compared to those inoculated with the nonsalt pre-treated fungus. However, for Na, the situation was the opposite. Based on these results, the AM inoculation helps the growth of soybean plants grown in saline conditions. When the AM fungus was pre-treated with NaCl with a gradual increase of concentration, and then exposed to a sudden salt stress, their efficiency was increased. This may be due to the acclimation of the AM fungus to salinity.  相似文献

Pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) plants were sprayed with salicylic acid (SA) and treated with ultraviolet radiation UV-A (320–390 nm), UV-B (312 nm), and UV-C (254 nm) of 6.1, 5.8, and 5.7 W m−2, respectively. UV significantly reduced contents of chlorophyll (Chl) a and b, and carotenoids (Car). SA treatment moderated Chl and Car reduction in plants treated with UV-B and UV-C. The quantity of antocyanins, flavonoids, rutin, and UV-absorbing compounds in plants that were treated with UV-B, UV-C, and SA were significantly increased. Foliar spray of SA counteracted the UV effects on pepper.  相似文献

The effects of nickel in combination with ascorbic acid (AsA) and gibberellin on 7-day-old soybean seedlings were examined. Exposure to 0.25 mM NiCl2 × 6H2O for 5 days resulted in toxicity symptoms, such as formation of reddish-brown mottled spots on the leaf blade. Addition of 0.05 mM GA3 or 1 mM AsA reduced toxic effects of nickel. After their simultaneous application, these symptoms did not appear. Ni decreased dry weights of roots and shoots and reduced chlorophyll content in leaves. An enhanced level of lipoxygenase activity and malondialdehyde, and changes in the activities of the antioxidant enzymes, catalase, guaiacol peroxidase and ascorbate peroxidase, in both roots and leaves indicated that Ni caused an oxidative stress in soybean plants. The Ni-stressed seedlings exposed to AsA or GA3, especially to GA3 plus AsA, exhibited an improved growth as compared to Ni-treated plants. GA3 decreased Ni uptake by roots, while ascorbic acid considerably reduced root-to-shoot translocation of Ni. Interaction of AsA plus GA3 prevented the decrease in chlorophyll content and lipid peroxidation as well as increased the activities of the antioxidant enzymes. These results suggest that GA3 plus AsA treatment counteracts the negative effects of Ni on soybean seedlings. Published in Russian in Fiziologiya Rastenii, 2007, Vol. 54, No. 1, pp. 85–91. Heavy metal contaminations in the environment of mining area have become a global problem. The vicinity of an iron ore mine was investigated to estimate the concentrations of As, Pb, Cd, Mn, Ni, Zn, and Cr in the soil and the feasibility of using native plants for phytoremediation. For this, concentrations of elements in soil samples collected and were analyzed by inductivity coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry. The concentrations of heavy metals and arsenic in the roots and aerial parts of Dactylis glomerata L. and Scleranthus orientalis Rössler were analyzed by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer too. As concentrations in the samples surpassed the soil toxicity threshold. Cd concentration in soil samples was considerably high next to mine pit. Neither species was identified as a hyperaccumulator, but both species could be considered as excluder plants for As.  相似文献

The effects of 0, 2.5, 5.0, and 10.0 mg(Cd2+) m-3 [Cd(NO3)2×4 H2O] and 0 and 10.0 mg m-3 gibberellin on certain parameters of photosynthesis and growth in soybean (Glycine max L. cv. Pershing) plants were studied. With increasing Cd2+ concentration in the Hoagland nutrient solution, the contents of chlorophyll and CO2 compensation concentration decreased. The addition of 10 mg m-3 gibberellin reduced the negative effects of Cd2+ in shoot and root growth. With increasing of Cd2+ concentration in the culture medium, the dry matter production in both the roots and shoots decreased as shown by the decline in growth rate (PGR), net assimilation rate (NAR), and leaf area ratio. The addition of gibberellin caused a partial elimination of the Cd effects on the roots and shoots and the PGR and NAR and it increased leaf area and length of stem.  相似文献

Effects of NaCl and Mycorrhizal Fungi on Antioxidative Enzymes in Soybean   总被引:12,自引:3,他引:9
The effects of different concentrations of NaCl on the activities of antioxidative enzymes in the shoots and roots of soybean (Glycine max [L.] Merr cv. Pershing) inoculated or not with an arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus, Glomus etunicatum Becker & Gerdemann, were studied. Furthermore, the effect of salt acclimated mycorrhizal fungi on the antioxidative enzymes in soybean plants grown under salt stress (100 mM NaCl) was investigated. Activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), and catalase (CAT) were increased in the shoots of both mycorrhizal (M) and nonmycorrhizal (NM) plants grown under NaCl salinity. Salinity increased SOD activity in the roots of M and NM plants, but had no effect on CAT and polyphenol oxidase activities in the roots. M plants had greater SOD, POD and ascorbate peroxidase activity under salinity. Under salt stress, soybean plants inoculated with salt pre-treated mycorrhizal fungi showed increased SOD and POD activity in shoots, relative to those inoculated with the non pre-treated fungi.  相似文献

Rheum ribes L. (Polygonaceae) is the source of one of the most important crude drugs in Asiatic regions .The medicinal character of rhubarb is due to its anthraquinone content . Different parts of sterile seedlings were cultured on MS medium to study the generation of callus. The explants were cultured with different ranges of plant growth regulators and the best range of plant growth regulators for generation of callus was IBA (1 mg l–1) and BA (1 mg l–1). The content of anthraquinones were determined by HPLC . The concentration of sucrose, vitamins and Myo-inositol and ratio of NO3 to NH4 in the medium was changed and growth rate and content of 2 anthraquinones was determined . The growth rate of callus declined with increased rate of secondary metabolites production. Myo-inositol 100 mg l–1 in the medium increased anthraquinone content and in medium that had NO3/NH4:1/1 the maximum content of anthraquinone was obtained.  相似文献
