The fluence-response curves for the effect of two red pulses separated by 24 hours on the germination of Kalanchoe blossfeldiana Poelln. cv Vesuv seeds, incubated on gibberellic acid (GA3) are biphasic for suboptimal concentrations. The response in the low fluence range corresponds with a classical red/far-red reversible phytochrome mediated reaction. GA3 induces an additional response in the very low fluence range, which is also phytochrome mediated. The sensitivity to phytochrome-far-red absorbing form (Pfr), however, is increased about 20,000-fold, so that even far-red fluences become saturating. Both in the very low and low fluence response range, the maximal responses induced by saturating fluences are modulated by the GA3 concentration. GA3 having no direct influence on the phytochrome phototransformations, alters the Pfr requirement and determines the responding seed population fraction in the very low and low fluence range. The effet of GA3 appears to be on the transduction chain of the phytochrome signal. 相似文献

The analyses of R- and C-banding patterns of chromosomes of Arvicanthis niloticus originating from two different localities (Egypt and Central African Republic) revealed karyotypic differences caused by one pericentric inversion and three translocations, one being reciprocal and the others Robertsonian. There were also some differences in centromeric heterochromatin patterns.The data indicate that these two forms are distinct species, cytogenetically isolated, and that a revision of the taxonomic status of the genus Arvicanthis is needed. 相似文献

Bacteriol. 92:662-667. 1966-An irreversible P(32) deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) binding system is described for Streptomyces griseus S104. The 69% guanine plus cytosine (GC) S. griseus DNA was bound by late exponential -early stationary phase cultures. Simultaneous addition of deoxyribonuclease with the P(32)-DNA to maximally receptive cultures reduced the uptake by 98%. Saturation of the binding ability occurred after 20-min incubation of cells with P(32)-DNA. Preparative cesium chloride density gradient centrifugation of the P(32)-DNA revealed that 98% of the label banded in the position expected for S. griseus DNA. Sedimentation of the P(32)-DNA at both 23 and 37 mug/ml indicated a molecular weight of 10.8 million. Attempts to transform S. griseus S104 auxotrophs to prototrophy by use of immediate and delayed selective procedures were unsuccessful. 相似文献

Natural clones and clones from laboratory crossings of Daphnia pulex have been tested in their response to stimuli for male and ephippia formation. The clones are from ponds in Illinois, USA, an area with both obligate and cyclical clones of D. pulex. The progeny from two types of crosses were studied: 1) crosses between an obligate clone producing males and a cyclical clone producing only females, and 2) self-fertilization within a cyclical clone producing both sexes. Both the natural and the artificial clones showed great variation in response to environmental stimuli for males. Ephippia response seems more equal among the clones, but two of the artificial clones could hardly be stimulated to produce ephippia in the induction experiments. In crowded cultures, however, they produced a few. Crossings between cyclicals and obligates yielded mostly cyclical progeny. Progeny from the selfed clone had low survival and fecundity. 相似文献

Previous work has demonstrated that there is a selective increase in extracellular taurine in the brain during acute water intoxication. One aim of the present study was to investigate whether plasma taurine contributes to this increase. To this end, the concentrations of taurine, other amino acids, and ethanolamine (EA) were measured in plasma and CSF of urethane-anesthetized rats injected with 150 ml/kg body weight of distilled water. Blood pressure, blood gases, and pH, as well as plasma and CSF osmolality, were also measured. The CSF level of albumin was quantitated to study the function of the blood-CSF barrier. In separate experiments, hippocampal microdialysis was performed to determine the effects of acute plasma hypoosmolality on extracellular amino acids. Finally, the effect of water injection on hippocampal specific gravity and tissue amino acids was assessed. Blood gases and pH were essentially unchanged after water administration. Mean arterial blood pressure increased to peak levels approximately 50 mm Hg above control. Plasma osmolality decreased rapidly, whereas the depression of CSF osmolality was slower and less pronounced. The average volume of the hippocampus increased by 8%. Water injection was accompanied by a 25-fold elevation of taurine in plasma, whereas phosphoethanolamine (PEA) and EA increased moderately. A small fraction of the increase in plasma taurine might derive from blood cells because dilution of blood in vitro led to doubled plasma levels of the amino acid. Taurine, PEA, and EA increased consistently in CSF and hippocampal microdialysates. An earlier demonstration of a circadian rhythm in rat atria by others is complemented herein by observations in culture: A single murine myocardial cell and two sets of grouped cells beating in culture for several days reveal several features of an anticipated, presumably built-in spectrum of multifrequency rhythms and trends, the chronome. Circadian and about 12-h (circasemidian) components are modulated by an approximately 84-h (circasemiseptan) component, which cannot be separated from trends in view of the brevity of the series. The circumstance under which the culture is aging and in which fibroblasts proliferate is a further complication that limits the findings to a single cycle reproduced in three separate cultures. Whether it is a rhythm that repeats itself or a response to placement into culture, an approximately 3.5-d component in the beating of myocardial cells in culture is to be aligned with a very prominent similar component found in the incidence of 85,819 human myocardial infarctions. 相似文献

A simple and rapid filter paper technique is described for processing samples from glucose uptake studies with whole cells of gram-positive or gram-negative bacteria that transport glucose via group translocation. The procedure yields results equivalent to those obtained with a conventional membrane filtration method and requires no special filtration equipment or source of vacuum. 相似文献
