South America has been influenced by different geoclimatic events ever since its separation from Africa. The inland water fauna has evolved in response to the changing landscape. Currently, there are indications of variations in populations, occurring to different degrees that would indicate a clinal pattern in morphology. Among South America's fauna, the freshwater anomuran, Aegla, is an enigmatic group as a result of its endemicity and is composed of only one genus. Of all the species in this family, Aegla uruguayana has the broadest distribution. Its native habitats have been influenced by several marine transgressions during the Miocene–Quaternary Periods; thus, it is likely that their current distribution has been more recent. Its habitat spreads across a number of isolated basins and sub‐basins that display distinct degrees of isolation/connection, making clinal variation patterns in the morphology of this species possible. The present study aimed to evaluate the pattern of carapace shape variation in A. uruguayana and how it relates to the isolation and/or connection of populations from different basins and sub‐basins, allowing the determination of any extant clinal patterns. The specimens studied belong to 25 separate populations, representing all areas in which the species currently exists. A total of 523 crabs were analyzed. We identified 13 landmarks and four semi‐landmarks in the carapace. The aeglids were divided into seven size intervals to avoid an allometry effect. In each size category, shape relationships analyzed by principal component analysis suggest a geographical pattern corresponding to the distribution of the populations studied. An evaluation of covariation between body shape and geographical coordinates reveals a strong pattern and shows that population distribution had a significant effect on species morphology. Additionally, according to covariance analysis, the variation in shape was not associated with the environmental variables studied. We observed a clinal pattern throughout the species distribution, which could be attributed to genetic drift. Behavioural expression of D-1 receptor supersensitivity depends on previous stimulation of D-2 receptors 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
SKF 38393 (2 mg/kg s.c.), a reportedly selective D-1 agonist, failed to induce contralateral turning behaviour in naive rats bearing 12 days old unilateral 6-hydroxydopamine lesions. On the other hand strong contraversive turning in response to SKF 38393 was obtained if rats had been tested 2 or 7 days before with apomorphine (0.1 mg/kg s.c.) or with LY 171555 (0.2 mg/kg s.c.), a selective D-2 receptor agonist. Contraversive turning in response to SKF 38393 was blocked by a low dose (0.05 mg/kg s.c.) of the specific D-1 antagonist SCH 23390. The results indicate that the behavioural expression of D-1 receptor supersensitivity following lesion of dopaminergic neurons depends on previous exposure to a stimulation of D-2 receptors. 相似文献

Summary The most relevant properties of hypercycles were previously studied mainly from a theoretical point of view. We have developed a Monte Carlo method simulating hypercyclic organization to obtain information about the dynamics of this prebiotic organization. Nucleation, growth, and selective properties have been tested and the results obtained are in good agreement with those of the theoretical predictions. The influence of hypercyclic organization of the error threshold has also been studied. As a consequence of the emergence of a hypercycle, the value of this threshold decreases. The amount of this decrease depends on the population size. Moreover, for some interval of quality factor values, either the hypercycle organization or an error catastrophe can be produced, depending on the initial conditions. We report the identification of 10 new human homeobox sequences. Altogether, we have isolated and sequenced 30 human homeoboxes clustered in 4 chromosomal regions called HOX loci. HOX1 includes 8 homeoboxes in 90 kb of DNA on chromosome 7. HOX2 includes 9 homeoboxes in 180 kb on chromosome 17. HOX3 contains at least 7 homeoboxes in 160 kb on chromosome 12. Finally, HOX4 includes 6 homeoboxes in 70 kb on chromosome 2. Homeodomains obtained from the conceptual translation of the isolated homeoboxes can be attributed to 13 homology groups on the basis of their primary peptide sequence. Moreover, it is possible to align the 4 HOX loci so that corresponding homeodomains in all loci share the maximal sequence identity. The complex of these observations supports and extends an evolutionary hypothesis concerning the origin of mammalian and fly homeobox gene complexes. Sequential 1H NMR assignment and secondary structure determination of salmon calcitonin in solution 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Salmon calcitonin (sCT) has been investigated by NMR at 500 MHz in a 90% DMSOd6-10% 1H2O (v/v) mixture at 278 K. All backbone and side-chain resonances of the hormone have been assigned by using high-resolution phase-sensitive two-dimensional techniques. Analysis of the type and magnitude of the observed sequential nuclear Overhauser effects, the NH-alpha CH spin-spin coupling constants, and the 1H/2H exchange kinetics measured in 80% DMSOd6-20% 2H2O (v/v) at 278 K enabled prediction of the secondary structure. Overall, an extended conformation is the dominant feature of the solution, but there are clear indications for a short double-stranded antiparallel beta sheet in the central region comprising residues 12-18, connected by a three-residue hairpin loop formed by residues 14-16. Two tight turns, made by residues 6-9 and 25-28, were also identified, but no evidence was found for the presence of a regular helical segment. The beta sheet favors an amphipathic distribution of the residues, orienting the predominantly hydrophilic Ser13, Glu15, and His17 side chains above the plane of the sheet, and the predominantly hydrophobic Leu12, Gln14, and Leu16 below it. This is interpreted as the "seed" of the amphipathic alpha helix postulated to be responsible for the interaction of sCT with lipids, a situation reminiscent of the folding mechanism of signal peptides in the interaction with membranes. The possible significance of the cis-trans Pro23 isomerism is discussed. 相似文献

[3H]Flunitrazepam (FNZ) binding to cortical neurons from fetal rat brain was investigated in vitro. The use of a synthetic medium specific for neurons made it possible to plot a developmental curve of3H-FNZ binding in an almost pure neuronal culture. Detectable specific binding was present in vitro at time 0 (that is, the 16th gestational day). A progressive increase of binding, due to an increment in the number of recognition sites, was observed on the subsequent days. Summary There appeared to be a clear correlation between the lignin content (% of TS) of several waste and natural materials and their degradability by rumen microorganisms. Materials with lignin contents higher than 25% were not degraded within 72 h. The effects of Kraft pine lignin and some lignin monomers on filter paper degradation, methane production and CMCase activity were tested. Testing these compounds in concentrations comparable to natural conditions showed minor effects. At higher concentrations p-coumaric acid strongly inhibited cellulose degradation and methane production in batch cultures. Influence of lignin compounds on degradation is discussed in relation to structural effects and enzyme or growth inhibition. 相似文献

Distribution of polyamines and their related catabolic enzyme in etiolated and light-grown leguminosae seedlings 总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Diamine-oxidase (DAO; EC 1.4.3.6) activity and di-and polyamine levels were estimated along the epicotyl and root of light-grown and etiolated lentil (Lens culinaris Medicus) and pea (Pisum sativum L.) seedlings. The activity of DAO was higher in etiolated epicotyls than in lightgrown ones. In both species there was a positive correlation between DAO activity and the diamine (putrescine and cadaverine) levels along the whole epicotyl and root. Polyamine (spermine and spermidine) distribution seemed to be associated with the meristematic and elongating zone of the epicotyl and root. The physiological function of DAO is discussed in relation to its possible role in providing hydrogen peroxide to peroxidase-dependent reactions occurring in the cell wall.Abbreviations CAD

The homeobox, a 183 bp DNA sequence element, was originally identified as a region of sequence similarity between many Drosophila homeotic genes. The homeobox codes for a DNA-binding motif known as the homeodomain. Homeobox genes have been found in many animal species, including sea urchins, nematodes, frogs, mice and humans. To isolate homeobox-containing sequences from the plant Arabidopsis thaliana, a cDNA library was screened with a highly degenerate oligonucleotide corresponding to a conserved eight amino acid sequence from the helix-3 region of the homeodomain. Using this strategy two cDNA clones sharing homeobox-related sequences were identified. Interestingly, both of the cDNAs also contain a second element that potentially codes for a leucine zipper motif which is located immediately 3'' to the homeobox. The close proximity of these two domains suggests that the homeodomain-leucine zipper motif could, via dimerization of the leucine zippers, recognize dyad-symmetrical DNA sequences. 相似文献

Cl ratio of these pores, estimated in KCl gradients, is close to 4. The pores display several conductance states and spend most of the time open at voltages near 0 mV, closing at more positive and negative voltages. At voltages near 0 mV the most frequent open state has a conductance of 2.4 nS in 0.3m KCl. At voltages more positive and more negative than 10 mV the most frequent open state displays a conductance of 1.2 nS in 0.3m KCl. With these results pore diameters of 3 and 1.5 nm, respectively, can be estimated. We suggest that these pores might account for the unusually high permeability of peroxisomes to low molecular weight solutes. Fusion also incorporates a perfectly anion-selective, two-open states channel with conductances of 50 and 100 pS in 0.1m KCl. 相似文献
