A method for the preparation of highly specific conjugates on the basis of antibodies obtained as a result of dissociation of the immune complex HBsAg--anti-HBsAg, formed in vitro, is proposed. ELISA was performed according to Walters with some modifications in the concentration of the assay ingredients and in the time of incubation. The technique of the assay of blood sera for the presence of HBsAg with the use of reagents manufactured in the USSR has been worked out.

Clinical efficacy of intravenous gentamicin in combination with oral use of gentamicin, ristomycin and nystatin was studied in 1977. In 1980-1984 two antiinfectious regimens were tested: intravenous administration of gentamicin in combination with total decontamination (oral use of gentamicin and nystatin) and selective decontamination (biseptol with nystatin of amphoglucamine). It was shown that the incidence of severe infections in the patients under the observation dropped against the controls. The incidence and spectrum of infectious complications in cases with acute myelodepressions were proved to depend on the intestinal autoflora inhibition.

Cytogenetic effects of separate and combined action of 232Th and Cd nitrates on Allum cepa root meristem cells

Effects of separate and combined action of 232Th and Cd on Allium cepa root tip cells were investigated. It has been shown that cytogenetic effects of 232Th results mainly from its ability to induce genome damages. Cadmium in the examined concentration does not induce chromosomal vagrants, and this effect is not intensified by the combined action of 232Th and Cd (with 232Th). Cd induced increased aberrations of chromosome type frequency (1.5 times more than in control group), and fragment frequence, while mitotic index was significantly decreased. While taking into consideration the frequency of anaphase--telophase damages, and the number of aberrations per cell, the combined effects of 232Th and Cd may be considered as synergic. The aberration type ratio, frequencies of bridges and fragments, and also the level of proliferative activity of 232Th and Cd in the presence of both ions were similar with the corresponding parameters obtained when Cd acted alone. Possible mechanisms of formation of 232Th and Cd synergic effects are discussed.     

The assessment of no adverse effect doses for plant populations chronically exposed to radionuclides of uranium and thorium decay series

Dose rates cause no adverse effects on natural populations of Pinus sylvestris L. and Vicia cracca L. inhabiting territories contaminated by uranium mill tailings and radium production wastes (Vodny settlement, Komi Republic) were determined. A significant increase in embryonic lethal mutation frequency in V. cracca legumes and decrease in seedlings survival rate as compared with control values were registered at dose rate equal to 1.67 mGy/day, that is 280 times higher than the one calculated for the reference site. The adverse effects in P. sylvestris expressed in increased frequency of chromosome aberrations in meristematic root tips and decreased reproductive capacity of seeds were determined at absorbed dose rate equal to 0.083 mGy/day. Data obtained show that the decrease in plant reproductive capacity in case of chronic exposure of radionuclides of uranium and thorium decay series can observe at lower weighted absorbed dose rates than in case of environmental contamination by artificial radionuclides.
