Specimens of fishes preserved in the Zoological Museum, University of Uppsala, which are believed to have been examined by Linnaeus, are listed. Most of these were originally given to the University in several donations by benefactors of the Academy and were described by Linnaeus in dissertations defended by students. Some specimens, however, are believed to have originated from Linnaeus's own collection. Many of the specimens have type status and this is discussed together with notes on other surviving Linnaean fish specimens.  相似文献

CCC (2-chloroethyltrimethylammonium chloride) decreased growth of primary leaves and stem internodes above the hypocotyl of dwarf French bean, probably because it decreased the amount of auxin produced by interaction between tryptophan and phenolic esters in the primary leaves. Growth of leaves was less affected than that of stems, and the gibberellin content of the primary leaves, previously shown to be associated with their expansion, was unaffected by CCC. CCC delayed death of the primary leaves, the breakdown of chlorophyll, and the increase in auxin associated with death of bean leaves. CCC had less effect on the growth of leaf discs, probably because they are not sites of growth-substance production. Glycine betaine, a quaternary ammonium compound similar to CCC, did not affect growth of bean plants, their metabolism of growth substances or the longevity of their primary leaves, but inhibited growth of leaf discs, probably directly.  相似文献

Chlormequat chloride labelled with 14C was applied to the thirdleaf of Proctor barley and Maris Dove wheat; after 1 d lessthan a fifth could be washed off with water. More 14C-labelledmaterial moved from treated areas of wheat than of barley toaccumulate in tips of treated leaves, younger main-stem leaves,main stems, and ears. Solutions of 3-phenylpropionitrile (PPN) and 3-phenylpropionicacid (PPA) exhibited auxin-like plant growth activity by stimulatingelongation of sections cut from wheat coleoptiles and garden-cresshypocotyls. Elongation of sugar-beet hypocotyl sections wasstimulated by PPA but not by PPN. Although PPA stimulated elongationof pea-epicotyl sections after 19 h incubation, most concentrationsof PPN did not show activity until 70 h. PPN generally stimulatedadventitious root formation on hypocotyls of garden-cress andsugar-beet, and on epicotyls of pea seedlings whereas dilutesolutions of PPA were inactive and concentrated solutions weretoxic. Steam distillates of water-cress plants contained a substancewith auxin-like growth activity and chromatographic propertiessimilar to PPN. Nasturtium officinale R. We investigated the common assumption that severing stems and petioles under water preserves the hydraulic continuity in the xylem conduits opened by the cut when the xylem is under tension. In red maple and white ash, higher percent loss of conductivity (PLC) in the afternoon occurred when the measurement segment was excised under water at native xylem tensions, but not when xylem tensions were relaxed prior to sample excision. Bench drying vulnerability curves in which measurement samples were excised at native versus relaxed tensions showed a dramatic effect of cutting under tension in red maple, a moderate effect in sugar maple, and no effect in paper birch. We also found that air injection of cut branches (red and sugar maple) at pressures of 0.1 and 1.0 MPa resulted in PLC greater than predicted from vulnerability curves for samples cut 2 min after depressurization, with PLC returning to expected levels for samples cut after 75 min. These results suggest that sampling methods can generate PLC patterns indicative of repair under tension by inducing a degree of embolism that is itself a function of xylem tensions or supersaturation of dissolved gases (air injection) at the moment of sample excision. Implications for assessing vulnerability to cavitation and levels of embolism under field conditions are discussed.  相似文献
