Included is an examination of some basic resources the author considered necessary for successful re-entry. The inheritance of uridine-5'-monophosphate (UMP) synthase in dairy cattle was consistent with a two-allele, single-autosomal-locus model. Two phenotypes were associated with different levels of the enzyme in bovine erythrocytes. The predominant phenotype (assumed normal) had twice the concentration of UMP synthase as the second phenotype (deficient). A one-to-one correspondence between enzyme level and genotype identified one homozygote as normal, the heterozygote as deficient, and the other homozygote as unobserved. Three alternative hypotheses were rejected. The deficiency as homozygous recessive was rejected because 20 matings between assumed normal males and deficient females resulted in 10 normal and 10 deficient offspring. The hypothesis that the deficiency was homozygous dominant was rejected because the 95 percent confidence interval about the observed gene frequency, 0.0024 to 0.0146, did not contain the estimated gene frequency for equilibrium between an average 10(-5) mutation rate and selection against the deficiency as homozygous dominant. Analyses of female relatives implicated one bull as deficient (96 percent probability), as he had, independently, 2 deficient daughters, 5 deficient granddaughters from untested dams, and 3 deficient great-granddaughters from untested ancestors. The hypothesis that the deficiency was sex-linked was rejected because 3 of 9 tested sons of the putative deficient bull were deficient. Billingen (Lower Arenig/Lower Ordovician) sediments of the St. Petersburg region, northwest Russia and the Leba area, northern Poland of the East European Craton yield acritarch assemblages, which are largely homogenous though displaying minor compositional differences that probably reflect a gradient from inner to outer shelf environments. Comparison with coeval acritarch microflora from the Yangtze Platform, South China, shows an overall similarity between Baltoscandian and South Chinese phytoplankton. The widespread uniformity in the fossil microphytoplankton may be related to the extensive global 'evae' sea-level transgression, which characterized the Billingen time. This suggests that during the Tremadoc through early Arenig times, acritarch assemblages displayed essentially an undifferentiated cold-water and oceanic character along the whole margin of Perigondwana in the South, as well as on the South Chinese and Baltic platforms, at middle latitudes (Mediterranean oceanic Realm). Despite this overall similarity, however, some typical taxa of the high-latitude Mediterranean Province (Arbusculidium, Coryphidium and Striatotheca) occur in South China, but are absent in Baltica. This discrepancy is explained as caused by differences in climatic and physiographic conditions that prevailed at the two palaeocontinents at this time. The inferred pattern of oceanic circulation during the Lower Ordovician is consistent with the palynological evidence of a prevailing warmer climate in Baltica than in South China, although the two palaeocontinents occupied the same palaeolatitudinal position. 相似文献

Abstract: Concentrations of selected intermediates of energy metabolism whole rat superior cervical ganglia maintained in vitro by an organ culture technique were compared with values measured in small slices of this maintained under essentially the same conditions. Rates of incorporation [3 H]leucine into trichloroacetic acid-precipitable material in whole ganglia mained constant for at least 48 h: however, the oxidation-reduction state tissue as indexed by (NAD):(NADH) ratios calculated from measured amounts of lactate and pyruvate decreased more than 50% within 3 h in vitro . Ganglion explants prepared by cutting the tissue into 300 -pm transverse sections played (NAD):(NADH) ratios that were about three times greater than noted in whole ganglia maintained in vitro for the same period of time. explants contained significantly higher concentrations of pyruvate and α-ketoglutarate than whole ganglia maintained in culture. Maintenance of vorable metabolic state may support the extensive growth of neurites seen explant cultures of superior cervical ganglia. Outgrowth of processes containing catecholamines could be detected readily in explant cultures of ganglia adult rats; however, this was somewhat slower and less consistent than growth observed in explants from neonatal rats. Organic matter degradation in marine environments is essential for the recycling of nutrients, especially under conditions of anoxia where organic matter tends to accumulate. However, little is known about the diversity of the microbial communities responsible for the mineralization of organic matter in the absence of oxygen, as well as the factors controlling their activities. Here, we determined the active heterotrophic prokaryotic community in the sulphidic water column of the Black Sea, an ideal model system, where a tight coupling between carbon, nitrogen and sulphur cycles is expected. Active microorganisms degrading both dissolved organic matter (DOM) and protein extracts were determined using quantitative DNA stable isotope probing incubation experiments. These results were compared with the metabolic potential of metagenome-assembled genomes obtained from the water column. Organic matter incubations showed that groups like Cloacimonetes and Marinimicrobia are generalists degrading DOM. Based on metagenomic profiles the degradation proceeds in a potential interaction with members of the Deltaproteobacteria and Chloroflexi Dehalococcoidia. On the other hand, microbes with small genomes like the bacterial phyla Parcubacteria, Omnitrophica and of the archaeal phylum Woesearchaeota, were the most active, especially in protein-amended incubations, revealing the potential advantage of streamlined microorganisms in highly reduced conditions. 相似文献

matrix (ECM) that contains large quantities of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). Proteoglycans (PGs) are major structural and functional
components of the ECM and are composed of a core protein to which one or more glycosaminoglycan sugar chains (GAGs) attach.
The association of BMP2, a member of the TGF-β super-family of growth factors, and a known heparin-binding protein, with GAGs
has been implicated as playing a significant role in modulating the growth factor’s in vitro bioactivity. Here we have characterised
an osteoblast-derived matrix (MX) obtained from decellularised MC3T3-E1 cell monolayers for its structural attributes, using
SEM and histology, and for its functional ability to maintain cell growth and viability. Using a combination of histology
and anion exchange chromatography, we first confirmed the retention of GAGs within MX following the decellularisation process.
Then the binding specificity of the retained GAG species within the MX for BMP2 was examined using a BMP2-HBP/EGFP (BMP2 Heparin-Binding
Peptide/Enhanced Green Fluorescent Protein) fusion protein. The results of this study provide further evidence for a central

HIV-1 integrase is a critical enzyme in the replication of HIV-1. It is absent in the host cells and therefore is a good target for treatment of HIV-1 infections. Integracides are members of the tetracyclic triterpenoids family that were isolated from the fermentation broth of a Fusarium sp. Integracide A, a sulfated ester, exhibited significant inhibitory activity against strand transfer reaction of HIV-1 integrase. Abstract: A systematic account of highly diverse cyrtocrinid faunules from Upper Jurassic strata of ?tramberk type (Oxfordian–Tithonian) in southern Poland (Polish Carpathians) is presented. Fourteen taxa (Phyllocrinus malbosianus, Ph. stellaris, Ph. sp., Psalidocrinus armatus, Sclerocrinus compressus, S. polonicus sp. nov., Hemicrinus aff. kabanovi, Ancepsicrinus parvus gen. et sp. nov., Tetracrinus baumilleri sp. nov., Eugeniacrinites alexandrowiczi, E. cf. moravicus, E. sp., Eudesicrinus gluchowskii sp. nov. and Hemibrachiocrinus tithonicus sp. nov. are described and illustrated. Representatives of the genus Eudesicrinus, previously recorded only from the Lower Jurassic, are here shown to extend into the uppermost Jurassic. Other cyrtocrinids considered are common in Jurassic/Cretaceous strata across Europe. In the present faunules, isocrinid (Isocrinida), comatulid (Comatulida) and roveacrinid (Roveacrinida sensu Rasmussen, inclusive of Saccocoma) crinoids are associated. 相似文献
