The addition of starch or skim milk to bovine serum albumin-containing regeneration medium enhances the regeneration of both Bacillus amyloliquefaciens and B. subtilis protoplasts. With B. amyloliquefaciens starch could replace bovine serum albumin; with B. subtilis either starch or skim milk could be used instead of bovine serum albumin. The maximum regeneration frequency achieved was 10% with B. amyloliquefaciens and 290% with B. subtilis . 相似文献

Elevated levels of interleukin-1 (IL-1) have been shown to amplify the inflammatory response against periodontopathogenic bacteria. In humans, polymorphisms in the IL1A and IL1B genes are the most well-studied genetic polymorphisms associated with periodontal disease (PD). In contrast to human, there is a lack of knowledge on the genetic basis of canine PD. A case–control study was conducted in which a molecular analysis of dog IL1A and IL1B genes was performed. Of the eight genetic variants identified, seven in IL1A gene and one in IL1B gene, IL1A/1_g.388A >C and IL1A/1_g.521T >A showed statistically significant differences between groups (adjusted OR (95% CI): 0.15 (0.03–0.76), P= 0.022; 5.76 (1.03–32.1), P= 0.046, respectively). It suggests that in the studied population the IL1A/1_g.388C allele is associated with a decreased PD risk, whereas the IL1A/1_g.521A allele can confer an increased risk. Additionally, the IL1A/2_g.515G >T variation resulted in a change of amino acid, i.e. glycine to valine. In silico analysis suggests that this change can alter protein structure and function, predicting it to be deleterious or damaging. This work suggests that IL1 genetic variants may be important in PD susceptibility in canines. 相似文献

The taxonomy and nomenclature of the genus Huperzia Bernh. in the Azores and Madeira have been reviewed. Plants collected in the Azores and Madeira were characterized morphologically. The independence between two endemic species common to Madeira and the Azores Islands –Huperzia suberecta (Lowe) Tardieu and Huperzia dentata (Herter) Holub – is clearly shown. A clear‐cut morphological separation between these taxa and Huperzia selago (L.) Bernh. ex Schrank & Mart. of continental Europe is established. © 2008 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society, 2008, 158 , 522–533. 相似文献

The majority of authors consider Festuca jubata Lowe as an endemic species common to Madeira and the Azores. Saint-Yves proposed that F. jubata was an Azorean endemic and described a geovicarious taxon in Madeira: F. filiformis C. Sm. ex Link in Buch ssp. mandonii St.-Yves. We undertook a complete bibliographical revision of the taxonomy, nomenclature, and chorology of F. jubata s.l. , and contrasted it with morphological and anatomical studies performed on samples from the Azores and Madeira. Azorean plants usually identified as F. jubata had a character combination distinct from that of those with a Madeiran provenance. Saint-Yves' proposal of two independent taxa was correct, but he erroneously considered F. jubata as an Azorean endemic because the name F. jubata was based on Madeiran plants. Consequently, F. jubata auct. pl. from the Azores belongs to a new species. © 2008 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society , 2008, 157 , 493–499. 相似文献

Effect of Nitrogen Supply on the Photosynthetic Performance of Leaves from Coffee Plants Exposed to Bright Light 总被引:7,自引:1,他引:6

Although Coffea arabica L. grows naturally in shaded habitats,it can be cultivated under high light intensity, but not withoutsevere photoinhibition mainly during the period of transferfrom the nursery into the field. The present work examines someof the changes in the photosynthetic performance induced byexposure to high light and the possibility of using enhancednitrogen levels to overcome photoinhibition. For that purpose, young plants of Coffea arabica L. (cv. Catuai) grown in a shadedgreenhouse were treated with 0, 1 and 2 mmol of nitrogen and4 weeks later exposed to full solar irradiation, outside. Visible damage due to exposure to full sunlight appeared within2 d in all plants, resulting in a reduced photosynthetic leafarea and drastic shedding of leaves in the unfertilized plants. These effects were considerably less in plants with the highestN dose. After 130 d of exposure, there was 100% mortality inplants receiving no extra nitrogen, compared with 30% in theplants treated with 2 mmol nitrogen. Photosynthesis rates, leafconductance and transpiration presented minimum values after4 d of light stress. Large changes in the photosynthetic capacity(measured at high CO2 concentration and high light intensity),quantum efficiency and fluorescence yield (Fv/Fm) indicate thatnet photosynthesis rate in the air had been reduced by bothstomatal closure and by changes at the photochemical level. All indicators show that N-fertilized plants were less affectedby photoinhibition. Key words: Coffee plant, nitrogen, photoinhibition, photosynthesis 相似文献

A molecular phylogenetic analysis of most of the species of Perezia reveals that, as traditionally defined, the genus is not monophyletic with two species more closely related to Nassauvia than to Perezia. In addition, our results show that Burkartia (Perezia) lanigera is related to Acourtia and is the only member of that clade in South America. The remaining species are monophyletic and show a pattern of an early split between a western temperate and an eastern subtropical clade of species. Within the western clade, the phylogeny indicates a pattern of diversification that proceeded from southern, comparatively low-elevation habitats to southern high-elevation habitats, and ultimately into more northern high-elevation habitats. The most derived clades are found in the high central Andes, where significant radiation has occurred. 相似文献

Randomly Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and Isoenzyme Analysis of Trypanosoma rangeli Strains 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1

ABSTRACT. Sixteen Trypanosoma rangeli strains were compared by isoenzyme and randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis. Eight strains were isolated from either Rhodnius prolixus or Homo sapiens from Honduras, Colombia and Venezuela. Another eight strains were isolated from either Panstrongylus megistus or the rodent Echimys dasythrix from the State of Santa Catarina, southern Brazil. All six T. rangeli strains isolated from P. megistus were co-infections with Trypanosoma cruzi , demonstrating an overlap of the sylvatic cycles of these parasites and that the accurate identification of species is of utmost importance. Both isoenzyme and RAPD analysis revealed two distinct groups of T. rangeli strains, one formed by the strains from Santa Catarina and the other, by the strains from Honduras, Colombia and Venezuela. With the five enzymes used, all the strains from Santa Catarina had identical profiles which overlapped with those of the other regions only in the pattern obtained with malic enzyme. Analysis of 138 RAPD bands by means of an unweighted pair group method analysis (UPGMA) phenogram using the Dice similarity coefficient allowed the separation of the two groups based on their divergence at a lower level of similarity than the phenon line. We show that the identification of T. cruzi and T. rangeli in naturally mixed infections is readily achieved by either RAPD or isoenzyme analysis. 相似文献
