The Kelvin-Helmholtz instability is investigated analytically by using a one-dimensional nonuniform model of the Earth’s magnetosphere and the adjacent solar wind region. Its properties are shown to be essentially governed by the presence of an MHD cavity that arises in the magnetosphere because of the non-uniformity of the latter and also because of the jump in the parameters of the medium at the magnetopause (the outer boundary of the magnetosphere). System oscillations constitute a discrete spectrum of eigenmodes, which are determined by the wave vector k t along the tangential discontinuity and also by the mode number n = 0, 1, 2, …, playing the role of the wavenumber along a coordinate normal to the magnetopause. Analytic expressions are obtained for the frequency and instability growth rate of each eigenmode and for the functions describing its spatial structure. All these quantities depend parametrically on the solar wind velocity V W , or more precisely, on the Doppler frequency shift ω W = k t · V W . For each eigenmode, there is a lower instability threshold depending on the parameter ω W and a sharp maximum in the growth rate at the eigenfrequency of the magnetospheric cavity. For ω W values below the threshold, the properties of an eigenmode are highly sensitive to the type of solar wind nonuniformity. Three cases are considered: a uniform solar wind and solar winds in which the speed of sound increases or decreases away from the magnetopause.  相似文献

Oscillations of the “magnetosphere-solar wind” system are studied analytically in the framework of a plane-stratified model of the medium. The properties of oscillations are determined by three phenomena: Kelvin-Helmholtz instability on the tangential discontinuity (magnetopause) separating the magnetosphere and the solar wind, the presence of a waveguide for fast magnetosonic waves in the magnetosphere, and the Alfvén resonance—a sharp increase in the amplitude of oscillations having the properties of Alfvén waves—in the inner magnetosphere. The oscillations of the system form a discrete spectrum of eigenmodes. Analytical expressions are obtained for the frequency and growth rate of instability of each mode, as well as for the functions describing the spatial structure of these modes. All these characteristics of the eigenmodes are shown to depend on the velocity of the solar wind as a parameter. The dependences of the main mode characteristics (such as the instability thresholds, the points of the maximum and minimum growth rate, and the spatial distributions of the oscillation energy) on this parameter are determined for each eigenmode.  相似文献

The toxicity of bottom sediments (BSs) from different parts of the Rybinsk Reservoir has been determined by biotesting. Neither acute nor chronic toxicity are detected for ceriodaphnia Ceriodaphnia affinis Lillijeborg in tests with water extracts of sediments from all the investigated stations. The relative number of Chironomus riparius Meigen larvae with deformed mouth structures in the specimens exposed to the BSs of the reservoir is higher than in the control. Abnormalities of the mentum and mandibules (heavily chitinized structures) were the most often observed pathomorphological disturbances. The results of this study suggest that BSs from the stations located near the Cherepovets Industrial Complex (CIC) may be classified as contaminated.  相似文献

Dependence of motility and chemotaxis was studied in two strains of Bradyrhizobium japonicum upon several environmental factors. In both strains, chemotaxis was found to increase with an increasing concentration of the attractant (glucose) to 5.5 × 10–2 M. Both motility and chemotaxis reached their maximum in the two- to three-day cultures at neutral pH. The maximum motility of these bacteria occurred at 40°C. The maximum values of chemotaxis in these microorganisms were, however, observed at 20–25°C. Chemotaxis in acidic or alkaline media and at low temperatures was found to be markedly weaker. Nonoptimal values of these parameters in soil may be a limiting factor for the interaction of the given bacteria with soybean roots.  相似文献

The effects of exposure to low-intensity continuous radiation in the red and near-infrared regions of the spectrum, as well as to infrared pulsed radiation, on the early development of zebrafish (Danio rerio) were studied. It was found that the use of continuous radiation at the red and infrared wavelengths (633 nm, 930 nm, dose 24 mJ/m2) leads to accelerated development of the embryo. In contrast, exposure to low-intensity single pulsed infrared radiation (864 nm) in the entire range of the doses studied (2.4–2400 mJ/cm2) negatively affected the early development of zebrafish, resulting in a significant dose-dependent delay in the hatching time of embryos and a reduction in the body length of larvae.  相似文献

Biomarkers of oxidative stress such as catalase (CAT), glutathione S-transferase (GST), glutathione reductase (GR) activity, and malondialdehyde and reduced glutathione content, as well as heavy metal concentrations (HM: Pb, V, Cr, Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, and Cd), were studied in Dreissena polymorpha tissues. Mussels were collected on three sites located on the Rybinskoe Reservoir different in levels of anthropogenic pressure: the most polluted sites were 1 and 2 and site 3 was relatively clean. Mussels from sites 1 and 2 had higher concentrations of HM (Pb, V, Cr, Mn, Ni, Cu, and Mn) and their response to the pollutant action was manifested in increased processes of lipid peroxidation (LPO), the activation of CAT, and elevated level of GHS.  相似文献

The substrate-inhibitory analysis has shown that single “atypical” cholinesterase (ChE) presents in tissues of freshwater oligochaete Lumbriculus variegatus (O.F. M?ller). This enzyme differs both from “typical” acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE). Specific activity of oligochaete ChE ranges 55–100 μmol ATCh g−1 tissue min−1 or 0.7–1 μmol ATCh mg−1 protein min−1, ratio of maximal rates (V) of substrate hydrolysises is 100:72:71:83 for acetyl-, propionyl-, butyryl- and acetyl-β-metylthiocholine respectively. Values of Michaelis constant (Km) for these substrates are (1.9–2.5) × 10−4 M. The bimolecular enzyme inhibition rate constants (kII) for organophosphorus inhibitors paraoxon, DDVP, and iso-OMPA are 107, 106 и 103 mol−1 | min−1. ATCh and BuTCh exhibit the effect of substrate inhibition of ChE activity, while PrTCh and MeTCh do not.  相似文献

The separate and combined in vitro effects of heavy metal ions (Cu and Zn) at concentrations of 0.1–25 mg/L on the activities of maltase, sucrase, and amylolytic activity in the intestines of bream and roach caught in areas of the Rybinsk Reservoir differing in anthropogenic loads have been studied. In fish from the polluted Sheksninskii Reach, membrane maltase and sucrase enzymes are less sensitive to the effects of Cu and Zn ions than in fish from the relatively clean Volzhskii Reach. On the other hand, starch-hydrolyzing enzymes were more sensitive to the effects of the metals under study in bream from a polluted area, which was especially evident in summer. The combined effect of Cu and Zn ions (1: 1) in most cases weakens the separate effects of these metals on the activities of hydrolases (except for amylolytic activity) in the studied fish.  相似文献

In the mixed culture of Azotobacter vinelandii and Bacillus subtilis, chemotaxis of Azotobacter to glucose remained unchanged, while that of bacilli decreased. Microelectrophoresis demonstrated adhesion of the A. vinelandii polysaccharide on the surface of B. subtilis cells. In the presence of 0.05–1.0 g/L of this biopolymer, the chemotaxis of bacilli to glucose decreased 2.6 to 6.8 times. A. vinelandii polysaccharide molecules adherent on the surface of B. subtilis cells were suggested to block bacillary chemotactic receptors, resulting in a decrease in their directed motility in the mixed culture.  相似文献

The investigation of the chemotactic response of Bradyrhizobium japonicum to amino acids, carbohydrates, multiatomic alcohols, organic acids, and soybean extracts showed that the extracts of some soybean varieties (Chernoburaya and Beskluben'kovaya) contain repellents. This indicates that the soybeans of host plants contain effectors that may play a role at the early stages of their interaction with nodule bacteria.  相似文献
