The aim of the present study was to apply EMG biofeedback as an auxiliary to piano teaching techniques. We studied the changes in integrated electromyographic activity, using the abductor pollicis brevis functioning as an agonist during the teaching of identical selective movements of piano playing in two groups, one with EMG biofeedback and the other following traditional method of instruction. The analysis of variance revealed an increase in the peak amplitude and the relaxation rate values for the biofeedback group. The present study describes the age changes to the microvasculature and connective tissue interstitium of the osteons and periosteums of aged human mandibles and maxillae. The mandibles and maxillae obtained from 14 and 19 year old males, respectively, were also studied. In the nutrient canals of the aged osteons, the walls of the arterioles and venules stained intensely PAS positive, and alcian blue negative. The walls of the blood capillaries were thick and strongly PAS positive. There was a deposition of PAS positive material in the connective tissue stroma of the nutrient canals which progressed to the obliteration of the canal space. Many of the nutrient canals exhibited diffuse calcification within the connective tissue interstitium localized around the blood vessels. The lacunae and canaliculi of those osteons in which the nutrient canals were partially or completely obliterated were filled with PAS material. None of these histochemical changes were seen in the osteons of young individuals. The microvasculature of the aged periosteum showed similar changes. The periosteal tissue consisted of thick collagenous bundles and few osteogenic cells. There was a thin darkly stained amorphous calcified layer forming the bone surface.  相似文献

The majority of mechanisms proposed to explain epileptic discharge suggest an excessive synaptic input into the cell or possible changes in cellular excitability which result in a decreased firing threshold and in the presence of self-sustained activity. It is likely that these changes are caused by modifications in the membrane receptor sensitivity to a specific neurotransmitter. In view of the above, the purpose of the present study has been to evaluate the sensitivity of the postsynaptic receptor by means of the microiontophoretic applications of substances whose pharmacological effect is known, thus determining its possible involvement in the epileptic process. Changes in cortical excitability were induced by electric stimuli in the sensorimotor cortex of rats anesthetized with urethane (1 g/kg intraperitoneally), immobilized with pancuronium bromide and kept alive with mechanical respiration. The electric stimuli consisted of trains of biphasic pulses, each lasting one millisecond, with a frequency of 100 pps and with a train duration of 1 second. The response of the neuron to acetylcholine was evaluated before and after the kindling had been established. The dosage was measured in nanoamperes of microiontophoretic ejecting current. Extracellular field potentials were recorded with the central barrel of 4-barrel micropipettes. Peripheral barrels were used for iontophoretic applications of Acetylcholine (Ach .1, 1M), Atropine (25mM). Summary A novel method to analyze -galactosidase by Flow Injection Analysis is presented with a linear working range extended to at least 2150 U/mL, being the detection limit 25 U/mL with 55 samples per hour frecuency and a BSD of 0.954% versus 2.4% obtained by manual assay. The method was tested with optimal results with samples from Escherichia coli cultures producing -galactosidase.  相似文献

From an undiluted passaged virus stock, two size classes of defective simian virus 40 (SV40) DNA were isolated from which two evolutionary variants were cloned. By means of restriction enzyme and heteroduplex analysis, physical maps of the mutants have been constructed. Both mutants contained the region of SV40 DNA coding for the early proteins plus some adjacent sequences (the region from 0.120 to 0.685 map unit, clockwise, on the standard SV40 DNA map). Furthermore, each mutant contained, in the form of two inverted repeats, four times the sequences from the region 0.625 to 0.685 map unit, clockwise. Some biological properties of the mutant DNA were examined, and we found that the mutant DNA (i) has, as compared with SV40 DNA, an impaired ability to induce T antigen in permissive and nonpermissive cells; (ii) does not complement a thermosensitive A mutant of SV40; (iii) replicates very inefficiently without a helper; and (iv), as an apparent contradiction, transforms nonpermissive baby rat kidney cells as well as SV40 DNA. A hypothetical mechanism for the expression of the mutant DNA that might explain the observed biological properties is presented.  相似文献
