Using the electrocortical activity in the sensorimotor cortex as an index, three distinct levels of motionless waking can be identified in the cat, all three different from active waking and from slow sleep (attentive waking, quiet waking and drowsiness). It has now been shown that spontaneous and evoked single unit activities in n. ventralis posterior of the thalamus undergo significant changes when passing from one level of waking into another one.  相似文献

As shown by chemical analysis and field trapping, the sex pheromone of Grapholita lobarzewskii consists of a blend of (E)-8-dodecenyl acetate and (Z)-8-dodecenyl acetate. Maximum attractiveness was found at 80–95%. Dodecyl acetate and tetradecyl acetate, both present in the female gland, did not affect trap catch. G. lobarzewskii has recently gained importance as a pest of apple and plum, but has so far been referred to as Grapholita janthinana. The latter is attracted to the same two compounds, but in reversed portions (20% E).
Zusammenfassung Chemische Analysen und Feldversuche zeigen, dass das Sexualpheromon des Kleinen Fruchtwicklers, G. lobarzewskii aus (E)-8-Dodecenylacetat (Z8-12:Ac) und (Z)-8-Dodecenylacetat (Z8-12:Ac) besteht. Die grösste Lockwirkung wurde mit einem Gemisch der beiden Substanzen bei einem E-Anteil von 80–95% erzielt. Dodecylacetat (12:Ac) und Tetradecylacetat (14:Ac) wurden ebenfalls in den weiblichen Pheromondrüsen nachgewiesen, hatten aber im Freiland keinen Einfluss auf die Lockwirkung. G. lobarzewskii tritt seit einiger Zeit in der Schweiz als Schädling von Apfel und Zwetschge auf und ist an ihrem charakteristischem Frassgang leicht erkennbar. Die Art wurde bisher irrtümlich als G. janthinana bezeichnet. G. janthinana lebt auf Rosaceen, und wird vom gleichen Substanzpaar angelockt, allerdings bei umgekehrtem Mischungsverhältnis (20% E).

Cytochrome b559 (cyt b559) is an intrinsic and essential component of the photosystem II (PSII) protein complex, but its function, stoichiometry, and electron-transfer kinetics in the physiological system are not well-defined. In this study, we have used flash-detection optical spectroscopy to measure the kinetics and yields of photooxidation and dark reduction of cyt b559 in untreated, O2-evolving PSII-enriched membranes at room temperature. The dark redox states of cyt b559 and the primary electron acceptor, QA, were determined over the pH range 5.0-8.5. Both the fraction of dark-oxidized cyt b559 and dark-reduced QA increased with increasing acidity. Consistent with these results, an acid-induced drop in pH from 8.5 to 4.9 in a dark-adapted sample caused the oxidation of cyt b559, indicating a shift in the redox state during the dark reequilibration. As expected from the dark redox state of cyt b559, the rate and extent of photooxidation of cyt b559 during continuous illumination decreased toward more acidic pH values. After a single, saturating flash, the rate of photooxidation of cyt b559 was of the same order of magnitude as the rate of S2QA- charge recombination. In untreated PSII samples at pH 8.0 with 42% of cyt b559 oxidized and 15% of QA reduced in the dark, 4.7% of one copy of cyt b559 was photooxidized after one flash with a t1/2 of 540 +/- 90 ms. On the basis of our previous work [Buser, C. A., Thompson, L. K., Diner, B. A., & Brudvig, G. W (1990) Biochemistry 29, 8977] and the data presented here, we conclude that Sn+1, YZ., and P680+ are in redox equilibrium and cyt b559 (and YD) are oxidized via P680+. After a period of illumination sufficient to fully reduce the plastoquinone pool, we also observed the pH-dependent dark reduction of photooxidized cyt b559, where the rate of reduction decreased with decreasing pH and was not observed at pH < 6.4. To determine the direct source of reductant to oxidized cyt b559, we studied the dark reduction of cyt b559 and the reduction of the PQ pool as a function of 3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1,1-dimethylurea (DCMU) concentration. We find that DCMU inhibits the reduction of cyt b559 under conditions where the plastoquinone pool and QA are reduced. We conclude that QB-. Two regions of the genome, a 1-kbp portion of the zeste locus and a 1.1- kbp portion of the yolk protein 2 locus, were sequenced in six individuals from each of four species: Drosophila melanogaster, D. simulans, D. mauritiana, and D. sechellia. The species and strains were the same as those of a previous study of a 1.9-kbp region of the period locus. No evidence was found for recent balancing or directional selection or for the accumulation of selected differences between species. Yolk protein 2 has a high level of amino acid replacement variation and a low level of synonymous variation, while zeste has the opposite pattern. This contrast is consistent with information on gene function and patterns of codon bias. Polymorphism levels are consistent with a ranking of effective population sizes, from low to high, in the following order: D. sechellia, D. melanogaster, D.mauritiana, and D. simulans. The apparent species relationships are very similar to those suggested by the period locus study. In particular, D. simulans appears to be a large population that is still segregating variation that arose before the separation of D. mauritiana and D. sechellia. It is estimated that the separation of ancestral D. melanogaster from the other species occurred 2.5-3.4 Mya. The separations of D. sechellia and D. mauritiana from ancestral D. simulans appear to have occurred 0.58- 0.86 Mya, with D. mauritiana having diverged from ancestral D. simulans 0.1 Myr more recently than D. sechellia.   相似文献

Summary Growing rats (4 weeks old) were kept for 3 weeks at 11° C and 24° C respectively. The cold-adapted animals showed a significantly higher oxygen consumption (64%). Volume density of subsarcolemmal and interfibrillar mitochondria as well as volume density of fat droplets were estimated in M. soleus and the diaphragm of both groups. In cold-adapted animals, the total volume of mitochondria was significantly increased by 24% in diaphragm and 37% in M. soleus. The volume of subsarcolemmal mitochondria was almost doubled in each muscle, but the volume of interfibrillar mitochondria did not change significantly. The surface of the inner mitochondrial membranes per unit volume of mitochondrion in M. soleus was significantly increased both in interfibrillar and subsarcolemmal mitochondria, whereas the surface of the outer mitochondrial membranes per unit volume of mitochondrion was increased only in the subsarcolemmal mitochondria. The volume of fat droplets in the diaphragm and M. soleus of cold adapted animals increased significantly by 62% and 150% respectively.  相似文献
