Archaeobotanical studies carried out by rescue archaeology at N?mes and Marseille (Southern France) provided evidence of Cordia myxa during the 2nd and 3rd centuries a.d. The fruit stones were found both waterlogged in domestic contexts and charred in a cremation grave (plant offering). Data
from these finds and a survey of historical documents and archaeobotanical literature are combined here to discuss the origins
and uses of these fruits in the western world. 相似文献

A thick layer of carbonised seeds was encountered in an 11th century a.d. room situated in the seigneurial part of the village of La Gravette. This paper presents the first results of charcoal and
seed analyses which give information on the food products stored in the granary and on their arrangement there. Triticum aestivum/durum/turgidum was by far the most important stored crop, while Avena sp., then Hordeum vulgare, Secale cereale, Triticum monococcum and Vitis vinifera were secondary. Weeds were poorly represented. Charcoals were dominated by deciduous Quercus sp., and 11 additional wood taxa were recorded, including especially Fagus sylvatica, Fraxinus sp., Rosaceae, Corylus avellana, Acer campestre and Ulmus sp. According to the charcoal distribution, Quercus and Fagus were probably building materials while most of other taxa would have been used for basketry, wattling or joinery work. In
the western part of the granary, naked wheat was stored in bulk. In the eastern part, various crops (at least naked wheat,
barley, rye, oat and grape) were stored in small amounts, most of which were probably separated by light wooden structures.
The cereal crops had largely been processed and cleaned. The stored products probably represent taxes paid to the lord who
owned the granary. 相似文献

Common vetch (Vicia sativa L.) exploitation during middle Neolithic times in Southern France. Archaeobotanical data from Claparouse (Lagnes, Vaucluse). Beginnings of common vetch cultivation are poorly documented. Domestication could have occurred in various places. Common vetch is recorded by rare seeds in pre-Neolithic and Neolithic sites but firm evidence of cultivation does not seem available before Roman times. The Neolithic site of Claparouse is providing evidence of utilization and probable cultivation as early as some 6000 years ago. Even if this pulse is nowadays only a fodder plant, it was more likely used as human food at that time. We do not know whether it was introduced in western Europe from the Near East or locally domesticated. To cite this article: L. Bouby, V. Léa, C. R. Palevol 5 (2006). 相似文献

Tissue kallikrein (KLK1) is a kinin-forming serine protease synthesized in many organs including arteries and kidney. Study of the physiological role of KLK1 has benefited from the availability of mouse and human genetic models of KLK1 deficiency, through engineering of KLK1 mouse mutants and discovery of a major polymorphism in the human KLK1 gene that induces a loss of enzyme activity. Studies in KLK1-deficient mice and human subjects partially deficient in KLK1 have documented its critical role in arterial function in both species. KLK1 is also involved in the control of ionic transport in the renal tubule, an action that may not be kinin-mediated. Studies of experimental diseases in KLK1-deficient mice have revealed cardio- and nephro-protective effects of KLK1 and kinins in acute cardiac ischemia, post-ischemic heart failure, and diabetes. Potential clinical and therapeutic developments are discussed. 相似文献

The goal of this work was to explore the possibility (1) of carrying out both morphogeometric and archaeological DNA analyses on the same grape pips and (2) of comparing different molecular markers to reveal DNA variation, namely Simple Sequence Repeats (SSRs) and Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs). We focused on waterlogged seeds originating from three Roman and one medieval archaeological sites in France. Our first results indicate that taking photographs of pips is not detrimental to the preservation of DNA, provided a specific protocol is respected. Regarding the genetic markers, obtaining reliable information in sufficient quantity proved very difficult using SSRs. SNPs have a much more interesting potential, providing greater success rates and reliability. Here in four archaeological pips we studied 842 SNPs, derived from known polymorphisms in several genes, including one gene related to sex. Phylogenies built using these genetic markers indicate that three pips from the Roman site of Gasquinoy are close to modern wild grapevines and/or the female group, while the only medieval pip from Colletière is hermaphrodite and close to the modern cultivated group. Morphogeometrical results are in agreement with these findings. We conclude that the combined use of SNP markers and morphogeometry is promising for deciphering the intricate history of grapevine domestication. 相似文献

Background and Aims
In spite of the abundance of archaeological, bio-archaeological, historical and genetic data, the origins, historical biogeography, identity of ancient grapevine cultivars and mechanisms of domestication are still largely unknown. Here, analysis of variation in seed morphology aims to provide accurate criteria for the discrimination between wild grapes and modern cultivars and to understand changes in functional traits in relation to the domestication process. This approach is also used to quantify the phenotypic diversity in the wild and cultivated compartments and to provide a starting point for comparing well-preserved archaeological material, in order to elucidate the history of grapevine varieties. Methods
Geometrical analysis (elliptic Fourier transform method) was applied to grapevine seed outlines from modern wild individuals, cultivars and well-preserved archaeological material from southern France, dating back to the first to second centuries.Key Results and Conclusions
Significant relationships between seed shape and taxonomic status, geographical origin (country or region) of accessions and parentage of varieties are highlighted, as previously noted based on genetic approaches. The combination of the analysis of modern reference material and well-preserved archaeological seeds provides original data about the history of ancient cultivated forms, some of them morphologically close to the current ‘Clairette’ and ‘Mondeuse blanche’ cultivars. Archaeobiological records seem to confirm the complexity of human contact, exchanges and migrations which spread grapevine cultivation in Europe and in Mediterranean areas, and argue in favour of the existence of local domestication in the Languedoc (southern France) region during Antiquity. 相似文献10.
The late Bronze Age lakeshore settlements of Grésine (French Alps) have yielded archaeobotanical evidence of 14 cultivated and 153 wild plants. Some of the wild taxa may have been collected, but many are probably here by chance. Three criteria are used as evidence for human transport and manipulation of wild plant remains: number of items, fragmentation, and carbonization. Relations between these criteria and known ethnobotanical properties of the identified plants are statistically analyzed. Results display good evidence of the gathering of edible wild fruits and seeds. Other gathering practices are not documented. Edible fruits and seeds seem to have been gathered mainly from ruderal spring weed communities and, possibly, from forest clearances and hedge communities. Fragmentation appears to be less of a discriminating factor than number of plant remains and carbonization. 相似文献
