The mountain pine beetle (MPB) is a native bark beetle of western North America that attacks pine tree species, particularly lodgepole pine. It is closely associated with the ophiostomatoid ascomycetes Grosmannia clavigera, Leptographium longiclavatum, Ophiostoma montium, and Ceratocystiopsis sp.1, with which it is symbiotically associated. To develop a better understanding of interactions between beetles, fungi, and host trees, we used target-specific DNA primers with qPCR to assess the changes in fungal associate abundance over the stages of the MPB life cycle that occur in galleries under the bark of pine trees. Multivariate analysis of covariance identified statistically significant changes in the relative abundance of the fungi over the life cycle of the MPB. Univariate analysis of covariance identified a statistically significant increase in the abundance of Ceratocystiopsis sp.1 through the beetle life cycle, and pair-wise analysis showed that this increase occurs after the larval stage. In contrast, the abundance of O. montium and Leptographium species (G. clavigera, L. longiclavatum) did not change significantly through the MPB life cycle. From these results, the only fungus showing a significant increase in relative abundance has not been formally described and has been largely ignored by other MPB studies. Although our results were from only one site, in previous studies we have shown that the fungi described were all present in at least ten sites in British Columbia. We suggest that the role of Ceratocystiopsis sp.1 in the MPB system should be explored, particularly its potential as a source of nutrients for teneral adults.  相似文献

The investigation of Encelia canescens afforded, in addition to several known compounds, four new dimeric p-hydroxyacetophenone derivatives, two epimeric chromene dimers and two epimeric mixed dimers of euparin and encecalin. The investigation of nine Vernonia species afforded in addition to known sesquiterpenes 28 new ones. The structures were elucidated by high field 1H NMR spectroscopy and the configurations were determined by NOE difference spectroscopy and, in one case, by X-ray analysis. The results indicated that configurations of several previously reported sesquiterpene lactones have had to be revised. In addition to known types two new ones, the jalcaguaianolides and the vernojalcanolides, are described. Furthermore some unusual reaction products are presented which, in part, led to some natural occurring lactones.  相似文献

The investigation of three South African Vernonia species afforded minute amounts of five new glaucolides, two monoepoxides and three diepoxides. The structures were elucidated by 1H NMR spectroscopy. The roots of Vernonia sutherlandii contain, in addition to vernonataloide, bergamotene and santalene, minute amounts of the corresponding acetoxy derivatives.  相似文献

Abrotanella forsterioides afrorded euparin, 6-hydroxytremetone and three 6-hydroxytoxol esters, one of them not being isolated previously. Furthermore a seco-triterpene was isolated. The tribal position of the genus Abrotanella in the Compositae is still an unsolved problem. Morphological investigations suggest that this genus should be transferred from the tribe Anthemideae to the Senecioneae [1,2]. So far two species have been studied chemically; one atforded ent-kaurane derivatives, while both contained euparin and hydroxytremetone [3].  相似文献

Leaf thionins of barley have been identified as a novel class of highly abundant polypeptides with antifungal activity, which are present in walls and vacuoles of barley leaf cells. Similar thionins occur not only in monocotyledonous but also in various dicotyledonous plants. The leaf thionins of barley are encoded by a complex multigene family, which consists of at least 50–100 members per haploid genome. The toxicity of these thionins for plant pathogenic fungi and the fact that their synthesis can also be triggered by pathogens strongly suggest that leaf thionins are involved in the mechanism of plant defence against microbiol infection.  相似文献

An investigation of the aerial parts of Chromolaena chasleae afforded a prostaglandin-like acid, whose structure followed from the 1H NMR spectral data and from the reaction with periodate, which afforded a hemiacetal. From a new Chromolaena species, three novel cadinene derivatives were isolated, which were closely related to those isolated previously from this genus.  相似文献

The aerial parts of Baccharis minutiflora afforded in addition to known compounds eight new ent-kaurane derivatives, one being a homo kaurane, while the aerial parts of B. alatemoides gave two pairs of epimeric clerodane derivatives, which, however, had to be modified chemically before they could be separated.
