In the oocytes of Eomenacanthus stramineus accessory nuclei arise by budding from the nuclear envelope. It is suggested that microtubules and the thick layer of the nuclear lamina are involved in this process. Newly formed accessory nuclei contain aggregations of fibrillogranular material. These aggregations are slightly Feulgen positive, RNA negative and stain positively with the AgNOR method. During later developmental stages one dense, RNA-positive inclusion appears in each accessory nucleus. These inclusions consist of on Ag-NOR-positive cortical layer and an Ag-NOR-negative core. The function of accessory nuclei in the species investigated is discussed in the light of these results. 相似文献

Summary Each of the two ovaries ofCatajapyx aquilonaris is composed of seven segmentally (metamerically) arranged ovarioles. The two lateral oviducts that join and bear ovarioles extend throughout the abdomen. In the ovariole three regions can be recognized: the terminal filament, the germarium and the vitellarium. The terminal filaments do not fuse with each other but attach separately (by means of muscle fibres) to the closest lobes of the fat body. Germ cells in the germarium are not joined by intercellular bridges and do not form clusters. Thus the ovarioles ofC. aquilonaris are interpreted as being primarily panoistic. The results obtained support the hypothesis that both dipluran subgroups (Campodeina and Japygina) do not form a monophyletic unit. 相似文献

Summary Effect of LH, vinblastine and cytochalasin B on the cytoskeleton of cultured Leydig cells was investigated using monoclonal antibodies and fluorescence microscopy. After LH addition and treatment with cytoskeletal disrupting drugs, three main effects were observed: 1) increase of androgen level secreted by cultured mouse Leydig cells, 2) changes of cell-shape towards regular and rounded, 3) increase of 5,3-HSD activity. Unusual organization of the tropharium in the telotrophic ovarioles of an insect, Saldula saltatoria
The tropharium of the common shorebug Saldula saltatoria consists of 2 zones: the apical mitotic region and the distal one comprising numerous mononucleate nurse cells. Each individual nurse cell is connected to the centrally located trophic core by a thin cytoplasmic projection referred to as a trophic process. The accumulations of a dense material interpreted as the remnants of intercellular bridge rim are observed associated with the trophic process membrane. The presence of gap junctions has been examined up to the sixth cleavage in the early Patella embryo. Gap junctions are located all over the blastomere borders. In 2-, 4-, and 8-cell embryos they were also observed at peripheral contacts. The frequency and size of the gap junctions increase at the 32-cell stage. The structure of gap junctions is similar in all stages investigated with hexagonally arranged equal-sized particles (11 nm) having a constant center-to-center spacing (13.0 nm). Eicosanoids are crucial downstream signals in the insect immune responses. Phospholipase A2 (PLA2) catalyzes phospholipids, the initial step in eicosanoid biosynthesis. In mammals, the biological roles of Ca2+-independent Phospholipase A2 (iPLA2) have been extensively studied; however, only a few studies have attempted to explore iPLA2 functions in insects. In this study, we identified two iPLA2 genes (designated as BmiPLA2A and BmiPLA2B) in the silkworm, Bombyx mori. BmiPLA2A had a 2427 base pair (bp) open reading frame (ORF) that coded for a protein with 808 amino acids. In contrast, BmiPLA2B had a 1731 bp ORF that coded for a protein with 576 amino acids. Domain analysis revealed that BmiPLA2A had six ankyrin repeat domains, but BmiPLA2B lacks these domains. BmiPLA2A and BmiPLA2B were transcribed widely in various tissues and developmental stages with different expression patterns. The administration of 20-hydroxyecdysone increased their expression levels in the epidermis and hemocytes. Furthermore, challenged with virus, fungus, Gram-negative bacteria, and Gram-positive bacteria induced the expression of BmiPLA2A and BmiPLA2B with variable degrees along with different time points. Sensitivity of Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains deficient in superoxide dismutases and catalases and of decreased level of glutathione to peroxynitrite and a nitric oxide donor, S-nitrosoglutathione was compared. Moderate but significant differences observed point to increased sensitivity to both agents of yeast deficient in antioxidant defense, the superoxide dismutase-deficient strain showing the highest sensitivity, The sequence of sensitivity of various strains to peroxynitrite and nitric oxide was the same. The results are compatible with the view that cytotoxic effects of peroxynitrite involve formation of secondary reactive oxygen species. 相似文献
