Inference of demographic histories using whole-genome datasets has provided insights into diversification, adaptation, hybridization, and plant–pathogen interactions, and stimulated debate on the impact of anthropogenic interventions and past climate on species demography. However, the impact of repetitive genomic regions on these inferences has mostly been ignored by masking of repeats. We use the Populus trichocarpa genome (Pop_tri_v3) to show that masking of repeat regions leads to lower estimates of effective population size (Ne) in the distant past in contrast to an increase in Ne estimates in recent times. However, in human datasets, masking of repeats resulted in lower estimates of Ne at all time points. We demonstrate that repeats affect demographic inferences using diverse methods like PSMC, MSMC, SMC++, and the Stairway plot. Our genomic analysis revealed that the biases in Ne estimates were dependent on the repeat class type and its abundance in each atomic interval. Notably, we observed a weak, yet consistently significant negative correlation between the repeat abundance of an atomic interval and the Ne estimates for that interval, which potentially reflects the recombination rate variation within the genome. The rationale for the masking of repeats has been that variants identified within these regions are erroneous. We find that polymorphisms in some repeat classes occur in callable regions and reflect reliable coalescence histories (e.g., LTR Gypsy, LTR Copia). The current demography inference methods do not handle repeats explicitly, and hence the effect of individual repeat classes needs careful consideration in comparative analysis. Deciphering the repeat demographic histories might provide a clear understanding of the processes involved in repeat accumulation.Subject terms: Genetic variation, Genome evolution  相似文献

Phytoestrogens represent a family of plant compounds such as isoflavones, flavones and lignans. A variety of these plant compounds have been identified in various human body fluids. A wide range of commonly consumed foods contains appreciable amounts of these different phytoestrogens, viz. soy products are particularly good sources of isoflavones and lignans. Accumulating evidences from molecular and cellular biology experiments, animal studies, and to a limited extent, human clinical trials suggests that phytoestrogens may potentially confer health benefits related to various cancers and diseases such as cardiovascular disorder. The evidences reviewed here represent the beneficial effects of most potential and promising isoflavone, Genistein in various types of cancers.  相似文献

Extract of gum resin of B. serrata containing 60% acetyl 11-keto beta boswellic acid (AKBA) along with other constituents such as 11-keto beta-boswellic acid (KBA), acetyl beta-boswellic acid and beta-boswellic acid has been evaluated for antianaphylactic and mast cell stabilizing activity using passive paw anaphylaxis and compound 48/80 induced degranulation of mast cell methods. The extract inhibited the passive paw anaphylaxis reaction in rats in dose-dependant manner (20, 40 and 80 mg/kg, po). However, the standard dexamethasone (0.27 mg/kg, po) revealed maximum inhibition of edema as compared to the extract. A significant inhibition in the compound 48/80 induced degranulation of mast cells in dose-dependant manner (20, 40 and 80 mg/kg, po) was observed thus showing mast cell stabilizing activity. The standard disodium cromoglycate (50 mg/kg, ip) was found to demonstrate maximum per cent protection against degranulation as compared to the extract containing 60% AKBA. The results suggest promising antianaphylactic and mast cell stabilizing activity of the extract.  相似文献

Complete atrioventricular (AV) block in association with Takotsubo syndrome (TS) has been well recognized, but the cause and effect relationship has not been elucidated. We describe a 78-year-old female who presented with complete AV block but one week later developed new-onset, diffuse T-wave inversions, QT prolongation, and acceleration of junctional escape rate. Left ventriculogram revealed features typical of TS. One year after permanent pacemaker implantation, complete AV block persisted despite the reversal of wall motion defects implying that conduction abnormality was the trigger of TS rather than its consequence.  相似文献

Four aqueous extracts from different parts of medicinal plants used in Ayurveda (an ancient Indian Medicine) viz., Momardica charantia Linn (AP1), Glycyrrhiza glabra (AP2), Acacia catechu (AP3), and Terminalia chebula (AP4) were examined for their potential as antioxidants. The antioxidant activity of these extracts was tested by studying the inhibition of radiation induced lipid peroxidation in rat liver microsomes at different doses in the range of 100-600 Gy as estimated by thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS). Of all these extracts, AP4 showed maximum inhibition in the TBARS formation and hence is considered the best antioxidant among these four extracts. The extracts were found to restore antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD) from the radiation induced damage. The antioxidant capacities were also evaluated in terms of ascorbate equivalents by different methods such as cyclic voltammetry, decay of ABTS(.-) radical by pulse radiolysis and decrease in the absorbance of DPPH radicals. The results were found to be in agreement with the lipid peroxidation data and AP4 showed maximum value of ascorbate equivalents. Therefore AP4, with high antioxidant activity, is considered as the best among these four extracts.  相似文献
