Cloud computing environments (CCEs) are expected to deliver their services with qualities in service level agreements. On the other hand, they typically employ virtualization technology to consolidate multiple workloads on the same physical machine, thereby enhancing the overall utilization of physical resources. Most existing virtualization technologies are, however, unaware of their delivered quality of services (QoS). For example, the Xen hypervisor merely focuses on fair sharing of processor resources. We believe that CCEs have got married with traditional virtualization technologies without many traits in common. To bridge the gap between these two technologies, we have designed and implemented Kani, a QoS-aware hypervisor-level scheduler. Kani dynamically monitors the quality of delivered services to quantify the deviation between desired and delivered levels of QoS. Using this information, Kani determines how to allocate processor resources among running VMs so as to meet the expected QoS. Our evaluations of Kani scheduler prototype in Xen show that Kani outperforms the default Xen scheduler namely the Credit scheduler. For example, Kani reduces the average response time to requests to an Apache web server by up to \(93.6\,\%\); improves its throughput by up to \(97.9\,\%\); and mitigates the call setup time of an Asterisk media server by up to \(96.6\,\%\).  相似文献

Oocyte vitrification and assisted oocyte activation have increasingly important roles in assisted reproductive technology. Yet, an important area of concern with matured oocyte cryobiology is that elements of oocytes intimately involved in metaphase‐II arrest may be modified by cryopreservation. By comparing different cellular characteristics of unvitrified, vitrified‐warmed, and unvitrified‐activated oocytes, the present study investigated how vitrification‐warming process may affect developmental competence of in vitro‐matured sheep oocytes following parthenogenetic activation. Structural, ultrastructural, and molecular analyses indicated that the characteristics of vitrified‐warmed oocytes vastly differed from fresh oocytes, instead resembling unvitrified‐activated oocytes. For unvitrified oocytes, the highest blastocyst yield (41.8 ± 0.6%) was achieved using the maximum ionomycin concentration (5 µM), and importantly, the duration of ionomycin treatment was not of utmost importance at this concentration. In contrast, the maximum blastocyst yield of vitrified‐warmed oocytes (28.4 ± 1.4%) was achieved with a minimal duration of ionomycin treatment (1 min), and further extending the duration dramatically reduced developmental potential of vitrified‐warmed oocytes. These results suggested that vitrified‐warmed oocytes may need an activation protocol different from unvitrified oocytes. In this respect, unvitrified oocytes were more sensitive to the concentration rather than the duration of ionomycin treatment when compared with vitrified oocytes, which were sensitive to the treatment duration. The present study was initiated to determine whether dietary supplemental L-carnitine and ascorbic acid affect growth performance, carcass yield and composition, abdominal fat and plasma L-carnitine concentration of broiler chicks reared under normal and high temperature. During the experiment, two temperature regimes were employed in two experimental rooms, which were identical but different in environmental temperature. The regimes were thermoneutral (20-22°C for 24 h) or recycling hot (34-36°C for 8 h and 20-22°C for 16 h). One-day-old broiler chicks (ROSS) were used in the experiment. A 2 x 2 x 2 factorial arrangement was employed with two levels (0 and 50 mg/kg) of supplemental L-carnitine and two levels (0 or 500 mg/kg) of supplemental ascorbic acid in drinking water under thermoneutral or high temperature regimes. Body weight gain was affected by high temperature. However, body weight gain was significantly improved in animals receiving supplemental L-carnitine, ascorbic acid or L-carnitine + ascorbic acid compared to animals receiving unsupplemented diet under high temperature. On the other hand, supplemental L-carnitine or L-carnitine + ascorbic acid reduced body weight gain under thermoneutral condition. Supplemental ascorbic acid significantly improved feed conversion efficiency, the improvement was relatively greater under high temperature. The L-carnitine content in the plasma was higher in the groups receiving supplemental L-carnitine and ascorbic acid under high temperature, while broilers fed supplemental L-carnitine and ascorbic acid had a decreased level of plasma L-carnitine concentration under normal temperature. It is concluded that dietary supplemental L-carnitine or L-carnitine + ascorbic acid may have positive effects on body weight gain, carcass weight under high temperature conditions.  相似文献

Leaf area index (LAI) analysis of deciduous forest trees is usually restricted to seasonal monitoring involving the assessment of distinct leaf phenological stages within definite time intervals of the year. However, continuous LAI monitoring that includes entire leaf periods is necessary to define the ecophysiological characteristics of deciduous trees. Therefore, this study investigated the intra-annual cycle of the LAI for a Platanus orientalis L. stand in the Bart?n watershed of Turkey. A complete cycle involves three periods: foliation, stable, and defoliation. The foliation period comprises budburst, leaf emergence and flushing sessions, whereas the defoliation period consists of leaf senescence and leaf fall sessions. The stable period is in between these two periods when LAI values are at a climax around maximum. Eight points were determined in the field for the analysis of LAI by a hemispherical photography technique. Over a relatively frequent schedule, photographs were taken almost weekly during the foliation period. Both weekly and approximate monthly photographs were applied during the stable period. Finally, near-monthly photographs were taken for the defoliation period. The foliation period lasted for about 1.5 months from mid-April to May with the mean LAI reaching from 0.16 up to 2.38. Mean LAI was between 2.38 and 2.47 for a stable period over 2 months (June and July). For the defoliation period, mean LAI dropped from 2.42 down to 0.35 over 5 months from August to December. The total foliated period was more than 8 months, which is relatively long for a temperate forest. In addition, correlations between mean LAI and maximum, mean and minimum temperatures were highly significant (P < 0.01) with coefficients (r) of 0.79, 0.90 and 0.93, respectively. By describing the intra-annual LAI pattern, this study fills a gap in the literature on the phenology of Platanus orientalis L.  相似文献

Vascular injury and destruction of endothelial cells (ECs) are the early events in scleroderma (SSc) patients. This study aims to investigate the therapeutic potential of human-induced pluripotent stem cell-derived ECs (hiPSC-ECs) to treat SSc. We have assessed the functional differentiation of hiPSC-ECs and compared them with human embryonic stem cell-derived ECs (hESC-ECs) by a variety of in vitro experimental approaches. Additionally, we evaluated the therapeutic potential of hiPSC-ECs in a bleomycin-induced SSc mouse model. Our results demonstrated that hiPSC-ECs and hESC-ECs showed similar maximum expressions of FLK1 (early EC marker) at day five during differentiation. After sorting and culturing, the FLK1-positive cells exhibited spindle and subsequent endothelial cobblestone morphology in EGM2 medium. The hESC-ECs and hiPSC-ECs also expressed late EC markers CD31 (68% and 75%), CD144 (50% and 61%), CD146 (46% and 61%), and DiI-labeled acetylated low-density lipoprotein (DiI-ac-LDL) uptake (55% and 63%), respectively. They additionally formed capillary-like structures on Matrigel. Analyses of the transplantation of sorted CD31-positive hiPSC-ECs into the bleomycin-induced SSc mouse model demonstrated that these cells participate in recovery of the damaged vessels. There was a reduction in collagen content; the number of total and degranulated mast cells returned to their normal state, and bleomycin-induced wounds as well as skin fibrosis improved four weeks after transplantation of hiPSC-ECs. Our findings have shown that the differentiation process from hESCs and hiPSCs to vascular cell components is similar. Additionally, this is the first study to determine the therapeutic potential of vascular cells from hiPSCs in the treatment of an SSc model. In the future, with further validation, these may be used as an appropriate source for the treatment of SSc patients.  相似文献
