Phototherapy can be used in two completely different but complementary therapeutic applications. While low level laser (or light) therapy (LLLT) uses red or near-infrared light alone to reduce inflammation, pain and stimulate tissue repair and regeneration, photodynamic therapy (PDT) uses the combination of light plus non-toxic dyes (called photosensitizers) to produce reactive oxygen species that can kill infectious microorganisms and cancer cells or destroy unwanted tissue (neo-vascularization in the choroid, atherosclerotic plaques in the arteries). The recent development of nanotechnology applied to medicine (nanomedicine) has opened a new front of advancement in the field of phototherapy and has provided hope for the development of nanoscale drug delivery platforms for effective killing of pathological cells and to promote repair and regeneration. Despite the well-known beneficial effects of phototherapy and nanomaterials in producing the killing of unwanted cells and promoting repair and regeneration, there are few reports that combine all three elements i.e. phototherapy, nanotechnology and, tissue repair and regeneration. However, these areas in all possible binary combinations have been addressed by many workers. The present review aims at highlighting the combined multi-model applications of phototherapy, nanotechnology and, reparative and regeneration medicine and outlines current strategies, future applications and limitations of nanoscale-assisted phototherapy for the management of cancers, microbial infections and other diseases, and to promote tissue repair and regeneration.  相似文献

The skin cells chiefly depend on carbohydrate metabolism for their energy requirement during cutaneous wound healing. Since the glucose metabolism is greatly hampered in diabetes and this might affect wound repair process. This prompted us to investigate the intermediate steps of energy metabolism by measuring enzyme activities in the wound tissues of normal and streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats following excision-type of cutaneous injury. The activities of key regulatory enzymes namely hexokinase (HK), phosphofructokinase (PFK), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), citrate synthase (CS) and glucose-6 phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) have been monitored in the granulation tissues of normal and diabetic rats at different time points (2, 7, 14 and 21 days) of postwounding. Interestingly, a significant alteration in all these enzyme activities was observed in diabetic rats. The activity of PFK was increased but HK, LDH and CS showed a decreased activity in the wound tissue of diabetics as compared to normal rats. However G6PD exhibited an elevated activity only at early stage of healing in diabetic rats. Thus, the results suggest that significant alterations in the activities of energy metabolizing enzymes in the wound tissue of diabetic rats may affect the energy availability for cellular activity needed for repair process and this may perhaps be one of the factor responsible for impaired healing in these subjects. Quantitative genetic analysis and mapping of leaf angle in durum wheat   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The leaf erectness profile has been used to optimize plant architecture since erect leaves can enhance photosynthesis and dry matter production by greater sunlight capture. Brassinosteroid is a recent class of phytohormones that has been related to a more erect profile. There are no reports in the literature of the genetic variability of leaf angle in doubled haploid durum wheat populations; most studies on leaf angle have focused on the inheritance. Our aim was to study the genetic variation in flag and penultimate leaf angle in a durum wheat doubled haploid mapping population, identifying and mapping quantitative trait loci influencing leaf angle. An F1-derived doubled haploid population of 89 lines from the cross Strongfield/Blackbird was used to construct a genetic map using 423 molecular marker loci. Two greenhouse experiments and one field test were conducted using an alpha lattice in a randomized complete block design with three replicates. The leaf angle was measured on flag and penultimate leaf with a protractor at three different growth stages. The results indicated poor to moderate correlations between the position of the leaf angle and the growth stage. Transgressive segregation beyond Strongfield and Blackbird of leaf angle was observed for all environments. Putative trait loci were identified on chromosomes 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B, 4B, 5B and 7A. This work helps to understand the genetics of leaf angle in durum wheat.  相似文献

High-throughput genome research has long been associated with bioinformatics, as it assists genome sequencing and annotation projects. Along with databases, to store, properly manage, and retrieve biological data, a large number of computational tools have been developed to decode biological information from this data. However, with the advent of next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology the sequence data starts generating at a pace never before seen. Consequently researchers are facing a threat as they are experiencing a potential shortage of storage space and tools to analyze the data. Moreover, the voluminous data increases traffic in the network by uploading and downloading large data sets, and thus consume much of the network's available bandwidth. All of these obstacles have led to the solution in the form of cloud computing.  相似文献

Quantitative trait loci controlling stripe rust resistance were identified in adapted Canadian spring wheat cultivars providing opportunity for breeders to stack loci using marker-assisted breeding.

Abstract

Stripe rust or yellow rust, caused by Puccinia striiformis Westend. f. sp. tritici Erikss., is a devastating disease of common wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) in many regions of the world. The objectives of this research were to identify and map quantitative trait loci (QTL) associated with stripe rust resistance in adapted Canadian spring wheat cultivars that are effective globally, and investigate opportunities for stacking resistance. Doubled haploid (DH) populations from the crosses Vesper/Lillian, Vesper/Stettler, Carberry/Vesper, Stettler/Red Fife and Carberry/AC Cadillac were phenotyped for stripe rust severity and infection response in field nurseries in Canada (Lethbridge and Swift Current), New Zealand (Lincoln), Mexico (Toluca) and Kenya (Njoro), and genotyped with SNP markers. Six QTL for stripe rust resistance in the population of Vesper/Lillian, five in Vesper/Stettler, seven in Stettler/Red Fife, four in Carberry/Vesper and nine in Carberry/AC Cadillac were identified. Lillian contributed stripe rust resistance QTL on chromosomes 4B, 5A, 6B and 7D, AC Cadillac on 2A, 2B, 3B and 5B, Carberry on 1A, 1B, 4A, 4B, 7A and 7D, Stettler on 1A, 2A, 3D, 4A, 5B and 6A, Red Fife on 2D, 3B and 4B, and Vesper on 1B, 2B and 7A. QTL on 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, 3B, 4A, 4B, 5B, 7A and 7D were observed in multiple parents. The populations are compelling sources of recombination of many stripe rust resistance QTL for stacking disease resistance. Gene pyramiding should be possible with little chance of linkage drag of detrimental genes as the source parents were mostly adapted cultivars widely grown in Canada.

Soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] is an economically important crop that is grown worldwide. Sudden death syndrome (SDS), caused by Fusarium virguliforme, is one of the top yield‐limiting diseases in soybean. However, the genetic basis of SDS resistance, especially with respect to epistatic interactions, is still unclear. To better understand the genetic architecture of soybean SDS resistance, genome‐wide association and epistasis studies were performed using a population of 214 germplasm accessions and 31 914 SNPs from the SoySNP50K Illumina Infinium BeadChip. Twelve loci and 12 SNP–SNP interactions associated with SDS resistance were identified at various time points after inoculation. These additive and epistatic loci together explained 24–52% of the phenotypic variance. Disease‐resistant, pathogenesis‐related and chitin‐ and wound‐responsive genes were identified in the proximity of peak SNPs, including stress‐induced receptor‐like kinase gene 1 (SIK1), which is pinpointed by a trait‐associated SNP and encodes a leucine‐rich repeat‐containing protein. We report that the proportion of phenotypic variance explained by identified loci may be considerably improved by taking epistatic effects into account. This study shows the necessity of considering epistatic effects in soybean SDS resistance breeding using marker‐assisted and genomic selection approaches. Based on our findings, we propose a model for soybean root defense against the SDS pathogen. Our results facilitate identification of the molecular mechanism underlying SDS resistance in soybean, and provide a genetic basis for improvement of soybean SDS resistance through breeding strategies based on additive and epistatic effects.  相似文献

It is well recognized that bryophytes form the basal clade of land plants. However, the paraphyletic or monophyletic origin of bryophytes remains controversial. To get new insight into bryophytes’ relationship we analyzed four data sets, 1 complete (common orthologous protein sequences; COPs) and 3 incomplete (COPs + 1, COPs + 1?+?3 and COPs + 1?+?3?+?2 data sets with 0.16%, 3.2% and 3.77% missing data, respectively) from chloroplast proteomes, representing 1 charophycean alga (outgroup), 5 bryophytes, 4 pteridophytes and 6 gymnosperms. Maximum likelihood analyses under cpREV model of all four data sets showed monophyly of bryophytes with 100% bootstrap support. Further, sister relationship of mosses and liverworts has been inferred with strong bootstrap support in all data sets. Although all incomplete data sets have gradually increasing missing data, the trees obtained from them have higher levels of bootstrap support for most of the nodes in comparison to the tree from complete data set. This study also demonstrated the importance of using longer sequences even with missing data for phylogeny reconstruction.  相似文献

The study was aimed at treating the complex, combined wastewater generated in Mangolpuri industrial cluster. It was considered as a low strength wastewater with respect to its organic content. Anaerobic treatment of this wastewater was studied using an anaerobic hybrid reactor (AHR) which combined the best features of both the upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor and anaerobic fluidized bed rector (AFBR). The performance of the reactor under different organic and hydraulic loading rates were studied. The COD removal reached 94% at an organic loading rate (OLR) of 2.08 kg COD m(-3)d(-1) at an hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 6.0 h. The granules developed were characterized in terms of their diameter and terminal settling velocity.  相似文献
