GC-MS analysis of essential oils of Iranian Mentha piperita and Myrtus communis extracted by hydrodistillation lead to identification of 26 and 32 compounds, respectively. The oils had good to excellent antimicrobial activities against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans with the oil of M. piperita being more active. The findings suggest feasibility of application of M. piperita oil in treatment of the infections caused by C. albicans and E. coli. D-values on exposure to M. piperita and Myrtus communis oils were (2.14 and 2.8min), (1.4 and 12.8min) and (4.3 and 8.6min) for E. coli, S. aureus and C. albicans , respectively. The oils were screened for their possible antioxidant activities by two complementary test systems, namely DPPH free radical scavenging and beta-carotene/linoleic acid systems. M. piperirta oil exerted greater antioxidant activity than that of M. communis. Phytochemical and phytobiological characteristics of these oils may lead to extraction and production of active compounds in single or combined forms with useful applications.  相似文献

Recent genome-wide association studies (GWAS) identified a list of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with coronary artery disease (CAD). Replication of GWAS findings in different population corroborated the observed association in the parent GWAS. In this study, we aimed to replicate the association of rs1870634, a GWAS identified SNP, to CAD in an Iranian population. The study population consisted of 267 subjects undergoing coronary angiography coronary angiography including 155 CAD patients and 112 non-CAD age- and gender-matched controls. The genotype determination of rs1870634 SNP performed using high-resolution melting analysis (HRM) technique. Our results revealed that the GG genotype frequency was significantly higher in CAD patients compared with controls (P?=?0.03). The results of binary logistic regression suggested that this genotype was significantly associated with CAD risk adjustment for age, BMI, sex, TC, and LDL-C lipid levels (OR of 2.78, 95% CI (1.10–7.01), P?=?0.03). Moreover, our results showed that the GG+TG genotypes were 2.52 times more likely to develop CAD (95% CI 1.05–6.03) than TT genotype carriers after adjusting for age, sex, and lipid profiles (P?=?0.037). These data showed that the GG genotype could be associated with increased risk of CAD in a sample of Iranian population.  相似文献

Among the progressive neurodegenerative disorders, Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common. Different factors have critical role in pathophysiology of PD such as apoptosis pathways, inflammatory cytokines, oxidative stress, and neurotransmitters and its receptors abnormalities. Acupuncture and electroacupuncture were considered as nondrug therapies for PD. Although numerous studies has been conducted for assessing the mechanism underlying electroacupuncture and acupuncture, various principal aspects of these treatment procedures remain not well-known. There have also been few investigations on the molecular mechanism of acupuncture and electroacupuncture therapy effects in PD. This review evaluates the effects of electroacupuncture and acupuncture on the molecular mechanism in PD.  相似文献

Phagocytic NADH/NADPH oxidase is an important enzyme producing reactive oxygen species within subendothelial space of vessels. Findings have shown that p22phox subunit is an essential element related to the enzyme activity. Since some p22phox polymorphisms are thought to have functional roles in the enzyme thus, we studied the association between rs4673 (C242T) and rs13306294 (A/G) haplotypes and the severity of stenosis in coronary arteries. One hundred eighty-two subjects undergoing coronary angiography were recruited on the base of study design. Patients (n=114) had at least a stenosed coronary artery (>50% stenosis) and subdivided into three subgroups; SVD (n=28), 2VD (n=31) and 3VD (n=55) while controls (n=68) had the normal coronary arteries (<5% stenosis). The direct haplotyping technique of SNPs was performed using ARMS-RFLP-PCR method. Furthermore, alphabet-based tools predicted the changes of secondary structure at the rs4673 position. All haplotypes being proposed theoretically were found in the study population. The distribution of two-allele haplotypes had no significant difference between patients and controls (P=0.1). Although the rs4673 allele frequency was not significant between the groups (P>0.5), chi square test and multinomial regression analysis showed an observed high risk for rs13306294 A allele among patients. The bioinformatics tools predicted that the p22phox secondary structure is not changed due to the substitution of Tyr→His at the rs4673 position. We concluded that the polymorphisms have no allele linkage on the chromosome. In addition, the rs13306294 A allele is a potential factor of stenosis of coronary arteries that increases susceptibility for the extent of disease.  相似文献

GPx1 is one of the most important enzymes involved in oxidative balance so that, we studied the phenotype and genotype relationship of GPx1 activity and rs 1800668 (C/T) site and also evaluated the changes of GPx1 kinetic parameters in the rs 1800668 homozygotes. One hundred fifty eight subjects were recruited after clinical exams. The rs 1800668 (C/T) genotype distribution was identified using RFLP-PCR method. The hemolysate GPx1 activity was spectrophotometrically measured in a reaction coupled with glutathione reductase (GR). The GPx1 enzyme was purified using gel filtration chromatography with Sephacryl S-300 column and, Km(app) was studied in the rs 1800668 TT and CC homozygotes. The results showed that the GPx1 activity is significantly associated to the rs 1800668 (C/T) genotype distribution (P<0.05) so that, the GPx1 activity was high among the CC homozygotes (P<0.03). In addition, Km(app) for TBHP substrate in the TT homozygote (8.48 μM) was higher than the CC homozygote (5.74 μM). We concluded that the C allele within rs 1800668 position is related to the GPx1 activity and may be a potential factor involved in development of inflammatory events.  相似文献

Background

Recent investigations suggested that deregulated levels of Circular RNAs (circRNAs) could be associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) pathogenesis. Accordingly, this study aimed to determine the expression levels of circulating CircHIPK3, CDR1as and their correlation with biochemical parameters in patients with T2DM, pre-diabetes and control subjects.

Methods and results

The expression of circRNAs in peripheral blood was determined using QRT-PCR in 70 patients with T2DM, 60 pre-diabetes and in 69 age and sex matched healthy controls. Moreover, bioinformatics tools were applied to explore and predict the potential interactions between circRNAs and other non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs). Our analysis revealed that the expression level of CircHIPK3 was significantly elevated in T2DM patients compared to healthy participants (P?<?0.001) and pre-diabetes subjects (P?=?0.018). In addition, ROC analysis suggested that at the cutoff value of 0.24 and the sensitivity and specificity of 50% and 88.4%, respectively, CircHIPK3 could distinguish between T2DM patients and control subjects. Furthermore, it was observed that the expression level of CDR1as is higher in pre-diabetic individuals than healthy individuals (P?=?0.004). Finally, Spearman correlation analysis showed that there was a significant correlation between CircHIPK3 and CDR1as expression levels and clinical and anthropometrical parameters such as BMI, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, HbA1c and fasting blood glucose (P?<?0.005).

Conclusions

The data of this study provided evidence that the expression levels of CircHIPK3, CDR1as increased in T2DM and pre-diabetes subjects, respectively.
