The present study was undertaken to investigate biofilm formation among the clinical Candida isolates from blood and cervical swabs. A total of 16 Candida blood isolates from neonates and 21 cervical isolates from pregnant women with vulvovaginitis were included in the study. Each isolate was identified to species level by various phenotypic tests. Biofilm formation was detected by colorimetric method. C. glabrata and C. albicans were the major isolates from blood and cervical swab respectively. The biofilm formation was found in 14 (87.5 %) blood isolates and only in 4 (19.1 %) cervical isolates. 相似文献

Frogs of the genus Tomopterna occur throughout sub-Saharan Africa. Previous work has shown that there are seven cryptic species, which occupy diverse habitats from grasslands to deserts. The current paper proposes a phylogeny of Tomopterna based on partial sequences of the mitochondrial 12S rRNA gene. A gene tree for the genus, including all seven named species and three undescribed species which were discovered during the course of this study, is presented. 相似文献

Two fold increase in the yield of glucose and maltose containing exo-polysaccharide (EPS) by Rhizobium sp. was observed during its growth in modified YEMB. EPS production, plant growth promotion activity and root colonization
of Rhizobium sp. studies showed enhanced EPS synthesis, more seed germination and over all improvement in plant growth over control and
R. meliloti treatment. Groundnut seeds bacterized with Rhizobium sp. resulted in 69.75% more root length, 49.51% more shoot height, 13.75% more number of branches and 13.60% more number
of pods over the control and R. meliloti treatment. Bacterization of wheat seeds increased the dry matter yield of roots (1.7-fold), and roots adhering soil (RAS)
(1.5) and shoot mass (1.9-fold). Rhizobium sp. inoculation also increased the population density of EPS-producing bacteria on the rhizoplane. Roots of plants inoculated

The fall webworm, Hyphantria cunea Drury (Lepidoptera: Arctiidae), is a harmful polyphagous defoliator. Female moths produce the following four pheromone components in a ratio of about 5:4:10:2; (9Z,12Z)-9,12-octadecadienal (I), (9Z,12Z,15Z)-9,12,15-octadecatrienal (II), cis-9,10-epoxy-(3Z,6Z)-3,6-henicosadiene (III), and cis-9,10-epoxy-(3Z,6Z)-1,3,6-henicosatriene (IV). Although 13C-labeled linolenic acid was not converted into trienal II at the pheromone glands of H. cunea females, GC-MS analysis of an extract of the pheromone gland treated topically with 13C-labeled linolenyl alcohol showed the aldehyde incorporating the isotope. Other C18 and C19 fatty alcohols were also oxidized to the corresponding aldehydes in the pheromone gland, indicating a biosynthetic pathway of IIvia linolenyl alcohol and low substrate selectivity of the alcohol oxidase in the pheromone gland. On the other hand, epoxydiene III was expected to be produced by specific 9,10-epoxidation of the corresponding C21 trienyl hydrocarbon, which might be biosynthesized from dietary linolenic acid in oenocytes and transported to the pheromone gland. The final biosynthetic step in the pheromone gland was confirmed by an experiment using deuterated C21 triene, which was synthesized by the chain elongation of linolenic acid and LiAlD4 reduction as key reactions. When the labeled triene was administered to the female by topical application at the pheromone gland or injection into the abdomen, deuterated III was detected in a pheromone extract by GC-MS analysis. Furthermore, the substrate selectivity of epoxidase and selective incorporation by the pheromone glands were examined by treatments with mixtures of the deuterated precursor and other hydrocarbons such as C19-C23 trienyl, C21 dienyl, and C21 monoenyl hydrocarbons. The 9,10-epoxy derivative of each alkene was produced, while the epoxidation of the C21 monoene was poorer than those of the trienes and diene. The low selectivity indicated that the species-specific pheromone of the H. cunea female was mainly due to the critical formation of the precursor of each component. 相似文献

Autosomal-dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is the most common inherited kidney disease and is characterized by progressive growth of fluid-filled cysts. Growth factors binding to receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) stimulate cell proliferation and cyst growth in PKD. Nintedanib, a triple RTK inhibitor, targets the vascular endothelial growth-factor receptor (VEGFR), platelet-derived growth-factor receptor (PDGFR), and fibroblast growth-factor receptor (FGFR), and is an approved drug for the treatment of non-small-cell lung carcinoma and idiopathic lung fibrosis. To determine if RTK inhibition using nintedanib can slow ADPKD progression, we tested its effect on human ADPKD renal cyst epithelial cells and myofibroblasts in vitro, and on Pkd1f/fPkhd1Cre and Pkd1RC/RC, orthologous mouse models of ADPKD. Nintedanib significantly inhibited cell proliferation and in vitro cyst growth of human ADPKD renal cyst epithelial cells, and cell viability and migration of human ADPKD renal myofibroblasts. Consistently, nintedanib treatment significantly reduced kidney-to-body-weight ratio, renal cystic index, cystic epithelial cell proliferation, and blood-urea nitrogen levels in both the Pkd1f/fPkhd1Cre and Pkd1RC/RC mice. There was a corresponding reduction in ERK, AKT, STAT3, and mTOR activity and expression of proproliferative factors, including Yes-associated protein (YAP), c-Myc, and Cyclin D1. Nintedanib treatment significantly reduced fibrosis in Pkd1RC/RC mice, but did not affect renal fibrosis in Pkd1f/fPkhd1Cre mice.
