The lesser mouse lemur (Microcebus murinus) is one of six sympatric nocturnal primates found in the Kirindy forest, west-Madagascar. Each of these species is reported to consume a secretion produced during the austral winter by the Homopteran insect Flatidia coccinea. In July and August 1993 a study was conducted to determine the importance of this food resource in the ecology of female M. murinus. At this study site, animals were distributed only along the forest edge where insect secretions are significantly more abundant than in the forest interior. Abundances of arboreal and nocturnal flying insects do not differ between the forest edge and interior. Experimental resource removal from a 25 × 25 m plot in one female's home range caused a significant shift in the animals' pattern of habitat use while no change occurred in a control plot. Thus, at this study site and time of year, the ranging behavior of a female M. murinus was strongly influenced by the presence of Homopteran secretions. © 1995 Wiley-Liss, Inc.  相似文献

The digger wasp species Ampulex compressa produces its venom in two branched gland tubules. They terminate in a short common duct, which is bifurcated at its proximal end. One leg is linked with the venom reservoir, the other one extends to the ductus venatus. Each venom gland tubule possesses, over its entire length, a cuticle-lined central duct. Around this duct densely packed class 3 gland units each composed of a secretory cell and a canal cell are arranged. The position of their nuclei was demonstrated by DAPI staining. The brush border of the secretory cells surrounds the coiled end-apparatus. Venom is stored in a bladder like reservoir, which is surrounded by a thin reticulated layer of muscle fibres. The reservoir as a whole is lined with class 3 gland units. The tubiform Dufour's gland has a length of about 350 μm (∅ 125 μm) only and is surrounded by a network of pronounced striated muscle fibres. The glandular epithelium is mono-layered belonging to the class 1 type of insect epidermal glands. The gland cells are characterized by conspicuous lipid vesicles. Secretion of material via the gland cuticle into the gland lumen is apparent. Analysis of the polypeptide composition demonstrated that the free gland tubules and the venom reservoir contain numerous proteins ranging from 3.4 to 200 kDa. The polypeptide composition of the Dufour's gland is completely different and contains no lectin-binding glycoproteins, whereas a dominant component of the venom droplets is a glycoprotein of about 80 kDa. Comparison of the venom reservoir contents with the polypeptide pattern of venom droplets revealed that all of the major proteinaceous constituents are secreted. The secreted venom contains exclusively proteins present in the soluble contents of the venom gland. The most abundant compound class in the Dufour's gland consisted of n-alkanes followed by monomethyl-branched alkanes and alkadienes. Heptacosane was the most abundant n-alkane. Furthermore, a single volatile compound, 2-methylpentan-3-one, was identified in various concentrations in the lipid extract of the Dufour's gland.  相似文献

Integumental gland secretions in lizards have been postulated to play a role as semiochemicals, but few studies have analysed the chemical nature of the gland secretions used in communication. We analysed the femoral gland secretions of Acanthodactylus boskianus using GC–MS, compared secretions of both sexes and different ages of males. For the first time in reptiles monoglycerides of fatty acids and glycerol monoethers of long chain alcohols were identified. In addition, alcohols, steroids, carboxylic acids, alkanes, amides, aldehydes, carboxylic acid esters, and squalene occurred. Sexual differences and age correlation in the amount of all major groups of compounds occurred, as such these results strengthen the theory that these secretions are used as semiochemicals. This work lays the foundations to test in future the role of chemical cues in mate choice and dominance hierarchies in lizards and to test the activity of compounds in behavioural assays to eventually identify the pheromones.  相似文献

The quality of cassava starch, an important trait in cassava breeding programs, determines its applications in various industries. For example, development of waxy (having a low level of amylose) cassava is in demand. Amylose is synthesized by granule-bound starch synthase I (GBSSI) in plants, and therefore, down-regulation of GBSSI expression in cassava might lead to reduced amylose content. We produced 63 transgenic cassava plant lines that express hair-pin dsRNAs homologous to the cassava GBSSI conserved region under the control of the vascular-specific promoter p54/1.0 from cassava (p54/1.0::GBSSI-RNAi) or cauliflower mosaic virus (CaMV) 35S (35S::GBSSI-RNAi). After the screening storage roots and starch granules from field-grown plants with iodine staining, the waxy phenotype was discovered: p54/1.0::GBSSI-RNAi line A8 and 35S::GBSSI-RNAi lines B9, B10, and B23. Sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis showed that there was no detectable GBSSI protein in the starch granules of plants with the waxy phenotype. Further, the amylose content of transgenic starches was significantly reduced (<5%) compared with the level in starch granules from the wild-type (about 25%). The inner structure of the waxy starch granules differed from that of the untransformed ones, as revealed by transmission electron microscopy analysis as well as morphological changes in the iodine-starch complex. Endothermic enthalpy was reduced in waxy cassava starches, according to differential scanning calorimeter analysis. Except B9, all waxy starches displayed the A-type X-ray diffraction pattern. Amylogram patterns of the waxy cassava starches were analyzed using a rapid viscosity analyzer and found to have increased values for clarity, peak viscosity, gel breakdown, and swelling index. Setback, consistency, and solubility were notably reduced. Therefore, waxy cassava with novel starch in its storage roots was produced using the biotechnological approach, promoting its industrial utilization.  相似文献

The current work demonstrates that larvae of the ectoparasitic wasp, Eulophus pennicornis, produce salivary secretions (Ep S) that contain a variety of hydrolases. This includes medium to high levels of N-acetyl-β-glucosaminidase activity, relatively low levels of esterase (C 4) and lipase (C 14) activity, and trace levels of esterase lipase (C 8), acid phosphatise, β-galactosidase, β-glucuronidase, and α-glucosidase activity. In addition, in vitro monolayer assays indicate that both a 4 h and an 18 h incubation of hemocytes from host Lacanobia oleracea larvae in Ep S significantly increases (P < 0.001) the percentage of cells dying by apoptosis compared to the controls. Moreover, an 18 h incubation of hemocytes in Ep S (but not a 4 h incubation), also significantly increased the percentage of dead cells detected using a trypan-blue exclusion assay. The role of ectoparasitoid salivary secretions in conditioning the host by disabling hemocyte-mediated wound healing responses, and providing food for the developing wasp larvae is discussed.  相似文献

目的通过对5 863例妇科疾病患者阴道分泌物进行检查,分析引起妇科疾病的病原体感染分布状况。方法选择2010年11月至2011年5月来义乌妇保院就诊的妇科患者5 863例,对其阴道分泌物进行常规镜检和生化检测。结果在5 863例样本中,清洁度Ⅰ~Ⅱ2 756例,清洁度Ⅲ~Ⅳ3 107例,不同清洁度中病原体的检出率差异有统计学意义(P〈0.05),且20~50岁年龄组病原体感染率明显高于其他年龄组(P〈0.05)。结论育龄期妇女阴道感染率较高,细菌性阴道病发病率比白色念珠菌性和滴虫性阴道炎均要高。因此,育龄期采取合理有效的措施,预防细菌性阴道病感染是关键。  相似文献

In the present study, we have employed a battery of colloidal gold-tagged lectins as probes in conjunction with quantitative analysis to demonstrate the distribution and changes of carbohydrate residues in the hamster zona pellucida (ZP) during ovarian follicular development and during transit of the oocyte through the oviduct after ovulation. High-resolution lectin-gold cytochemistry performed on thin sections of LR White-embedded ovaries revealed a moderate to strong reactivity to WGA, PNA, DSA, AAA, and MAA over the entire thickness of the ZP of ovarian oocytes at different stages of follicular development. Labeling intensity over the ZP progressively increased as follicles matured in the ovary. In parallel, there was an association of labeling by gold particles with cortical granules, stacks of Golgi saccules, and complex structures called vesicular aggregates in the oocyte proper especially during the late stages of follicular growth. In contrary, labeling with each of HPA, DBA, and BSAIB(4) was absent in the ovary but was found to be localized over Golgi complexes and secretory granules in the non-ciliated secretory cells of the oviduct. When ovulated oocytes were labeled with each of HPA, WGA, RCA-I, PNA, DSA, BSAIB(4), AAA, MAA, and DBA, the ZP and several organelles in the oocyte proper presented a differential distribution of lectin-binding sites. Quantitative analysis was also performed on labeling by lectin-gold complexes that bind specifically to the ZP of mature follicular and ovulated oocytes. Quantitative evaluation revealed heterogeneous labeling between the inner and the outer zone of the ZP. A significant increase in the labeling densities in both inner and outer ZP was noted when tissue sections of ovulated oocytes were labeled with RCA-I or AAA. Tissue sections of ovaries labeled with WGA demonstrated a significant increase in the density of labeling in the outer layer of the ZP. Labeling by PNA, DSA, and MAA, however, showed a significant decrease in both the inner and outer portions of the ZP. Together, these results suggest that in the hamster, glycoproteins carrying specific sugar residues are added to the ZP of ovarian follicles during the early stages of folliculogenesis and are processed through a common secretory machinery, and that there is a significant change in both the sugar moieties and distribution of glycoproteins in the ZP following ovulation. Our results also showed that the hamster oviduct plays an important role in contributing certain glycoproteins to the ZP suggesting that the sugar moieties of these oviductal glycoproteins may have functional significance in fertilization.  相似文献

In order to clarify whether the structures observed at the base of the petiole of the genus Ilex are colleters resulting from stipules, the anatomy, vascularization and secretions of these supposed glandular structures were analysed in nine species. This is the first report of colleters in Ilex. Stipular colleters replace the stipules in all species studied and are characterized by the presence of vascular traces. In addition to the stipular colleters, three other types of colleter were distinguished: standard and lachrymiform colleters found on the leaf teeth or crenations, and sessile colleters found on the margins of the floral bracts. Their basic structure consists of a central core of parenchymatous cells surrounded by one layer of palisade secretory epidermal cells. Histochemical tests were also performed on secretions; proteins were found in the secretions studied, but glucose was not. The glandular origin of the stipular colleters is confirmed on the basis of their position, secretions and anatomy. 弯齿琵甲Blaps femoralis Fischervon Waldheim是中国北方的优势土壤昆虫,其防御腺分泌物用于御敌和引起本种群体的集结,体外具有一定毒性,民间将该虫作为药用昆虫资源利用年代久远。由该虫防御腺体获得分泌物并经气相色谱-质谱联用技术(GC-MS)分析,共计获得14种小分子化合物,其中以2-甲基苯醌、1-十三碳烯和2,4-二甲基-3-呋喃乙酮含量较高,苯醌、苯二酚、3,5-二羟基甲苯和十二烷醛等小分子化合物次之。研究证实该分泌物具有较明显的抑菌能力。研究结果为今后进一步深入开展弯齿琵甲的防御腺化学分泌物天然产物的研究积累了工作。  相似文献

Mucus-like secretions by Spirostomum are demonstrated by a combination of anatomic and hydrodynamic technics whereby the presence of mucocysts and trails formed by their secretions can be shown. The mucocysts in this heterotrich differ somewhat in form and content from those reported for hymenostomes. It is suggested that the mucuslike secretions aid in lubrication when the ciliate swims near a solid boundary and reduce unsteady hydrodynamic effects when the organism swims in unobstructed fluid.  相似文献
