It has been demonstrated that Ag-TiO2 nanocomposite coatings with excellent antimicrobial activity and biocompatibility have the potential to reduce infection problems. However, the mechanism of the synergistic effect of Ag-TiO2 coatings on antibacterial efficiency is still not well understood. In this study, five types of Ag-TiO2 nanocomposited coatings with different TiO2 contents were prepared on a titanium substratum. Leaching tests indicated that the incorporation of TiO2 nanoparticles into an Ag matrix significantly promoted Ag ion release. Surface energy measurements showed that the addition of TiO2 nanoparticles also significantly increased the electron donor surface energy of the coatings. Bacterial adhesion assays with Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus demonstrated that the number of adhered bacteria decreased with increasing electron donor surface energy. The increased Ag ion release rate and the increased electron donor surface energy contributed to an enhanced antibacterial efficiency of the coatings.  相似文献

The manufacture and preliminary testing of a drag-reducing riblet texture with fouling-control properties is presented. The commercial fouling-release product Intersleek® 1100SR was modified to manufacture riblet-textured coatings with an embossing technology. Hydrodynamic drag measurements in a Taylor–Couette set-up showed that the modified Intersleek® riblets reduced drag by up to 6% compared to a smooth surface. Barnacle settlement assays demonstrated that the riblets did not substantially reduce the ability of Intersleek® 1100SR to prevent fouling by cyprids of Balanus amphitrite. Diatom adhesion tests revealed significantly higher diatom attachment on the riblet surface compared to smooth Intersleek® 1100SR. However, after exposure to flow, the final cell density was similar to the smooth surface. Statically immersed panels in natural seawater showed an increase of biofilm cover due to the riblets. However, the release of semi-natural biofilms grown in a multi-species biofilm culturing reactor was largely unaffected by the presence of a riblet texture.  相似文献

Sequential series multijunction dye‐sensitized solar cells (SSM‐DSCs) can power solar‐to‐fuel processes with a single illuminated area device. Dye selection and strategies limiting photon losses are critical in SSM‐DSC devices for higher performance systems. Herein, an efficient and readily applicable spin coating protocol on glass surfaces with an antireflective fluoropolymer (CYTOP) is applied to an SSM‐DSC architecture. Combining CYTOP with the use of an immersion oil between glass spacers in a three subcell SSM‐DSC with judiciously selected TiO2 photoanode sensitizers and thicknesses, an overall power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 10.1% is obtained with an output of 2.3 V. Without external bias, this SSM‐DSC configuration shows an impressive overall solar‐to‐fuel conversion efficiency of 6% when powering IrO2 and Au2O3 electrocatalysts for CO2 and H2O to CO and H2 conversion in aqueous solution. The role of CYTOP, immersion oil, sensitizer selection, and film thickness on SSM‐DSC devices is discussed along with the stability of this system.  相似文献

Achieving healthy active-material microenvironment (ME@AM) for stable and efficient electron/ion transport around each active-material particle is crucial for high-performance battery electrodes. However, this goal has been proved extremely challenging for most high-capacity AMs such as sulfur, owing to its notable volume change and severe shuttle effect. Here, a multifunctional hybrid material with zein protein reinforced catalytic single Cu atom/carbon composite (Cu─C) (zein/Cu─C) is coated onto sulfur/carbon (SC) particle, to prepare the advanced zein/Cu─C@SC core–shell particle. Similar to the multifunctional cell membrane well-known in biology, this multifunctional zein/Cu─C coating helps build a healthy and stable ME@AM within sulfur cathode. Specifically, it can simultaneously provide robust protective shell for the AM particle, adsorption and catalyst function to the dissolved polysulfides, and AM surface treatment to improve AM/conductive agent interface. All these functions are the keys to build and maintain a healthy ME@AM in sulfur cathode. This study not only brings effective solutions to the challenges in volume-change high-capacity sulfur active materials and beyond, but also helps achieve comprehensive understanding of the key factors controlling the structuring and final quality of ME@AM.  相似文献

Biofouling is a significant economic and ecological problem, causing reduced vessel performance and increases in fuel consumption and emissions. Previous research has shown iodine vapor (I2)-infused aeration to be an environmentally friendly method for deterring the settlement of fouling organisms. An aeration system was deployed on a vessel with hull sections coated with two types of antifoulant coatings, Intersleek® 1100 (fouling-release) and Interspeed® BRA-640 (ablative copper biocide), as well as an inert epoxy barrier coating, to assess the effectiveness of aeration in conjunction with common marine coatings. I2-infused aeration resulted in consistent reductions of 80–90% in hard fouling across all three coatings. Additionally, aeration reduced the soft fouling rate by 45–70% when used in conjunction with both Intersleek® and Interspeed® BRA versus those coatings alone. The results of this study highlight the contribution of I2-infused aeration as a standalone mechanism for fouling prevention or as a complement to traditional antifouling coatings.  相似文献

The in-field performance of microbial biocontrol agents (BCAs) against fungal pathogens in fruit is subject to considerable variability due to their sensitivity to both adverse environmental conditions and their fluctuations. Therefore, to achieve an adequate development and implementation of biological agent-based products, it is necessary to improve their resistance and ability to control fungal diseases under a wide range of conditions. In this review, an overview of the latest strategies for the enhancement of the action of BCAs is given. The combination of the antagonists with edible polymers able to form coatings is one of the approaches with the greatest potential and it is analysed in depth. This formulation approach of biocontrol products, including adequate microbial protectants, can yield stable products with high microbial viability, ready for field applications, with improved adherence and survival of the BCA once applied in plant. The most recent studies into this field are reviewed and summarised.  相似文献

Trypsin‐coated magnetic nanoparticles (EC‐TR/NPs), prepared via a simple multilayer random crosslinking of the trypsin molecules onto magnetic nanoparticles, were highly stable and could be easily captured using a magnet after the digestion was complete. EC‐TR/NPs showed a negligible loss of trypsin activity after multiple uses and continuous shaking, whereas the conventional immobilization of covalently attached trypsin on NPs resulted in a rapid inactivation under the same conditions due to the denaturation and autolysis of trypsin. A single model protein, a five‐protein mixture, and a whole mouse brain proteome were digested at atmospheric pressure and 37°C for 12 h or in combination with pressure cycling technology at room temperature for 1 min. In all cases, EC‐TR/NPs performed equally to or better than free trypsin in terms of both the identified peptide/protein number and the digestion reproducibility. In addition, the concomitant use of EC‐TR/NPs and pressure cycling technology resulted in very rapid (∼1 min) and efficient digestions with more reproducible digestion results.  相似文献

A series of plasma-mediated coatings, containing silver nanoparticles embedded in an organosilicon or silica-like matrix, were deposited onto stainless steel and chemically characterized. Their anti-adhesive properties were evaluated in vitro towards Escherichia coli by performing shear-flow induced detachment experiments. Increasing the wall shear stress facilitated E. coli cell detachment, irrespective of the coating characteristics. When nanosilver was incorporated, cell detachment was lower, probably due to the affinity of the embedded silver for biological components of the cell wall. The presence of methyl groups in the matrix network could also promote enhanced hydrophobic interactions. Within the population fraction remaining attached to the coating under increasing shear flow, different association phenotypes were observed, viz. progressively lying flat, moving laterally, remaining tethered, or rotating by a single anchoring point, until alignment with the flow direction. This re-orientation phenotype and its relation with detachment were dependent of the coating. The effects of such heterogeneities should be more deeply explored.  相似文献

Long-term grooming tests were conducted on two large-scale test panels, one coated with a fluorosilicone fouling-release (FR) coating, and one coated with a copper based ablative antifouling (AF) coating. Mechanical grooming was performed weekly or bi-weekly using a hand operated, electrically powered, rotating brush tool. The results indicate that weekly grooming was effective at removing loose or heavy biofilm settlement from both coatings, but could not prevent the permanent establishment of low-profile tenacious biofilms. Weekly grooming was very effective at preventing macrofouling establishment on the AF coating. The effectiveness of weekly grooming at preventing macrofouling establishment on the FR coating varied seasonally. The results suggest that frequent mechanical grooming is a viable method to reduce the fouling rating of ships’ hulls with minimal impact to the coating. Frequent grooming could offer significant fuel savings while reducing hull cleaning frequencies and dry dock maintenance requirements.  相似文献
