Abstract

Methods for multi-elemental quantitative analysis of soil samples by high-resolution inductively-coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (HR–ICP–MS) with preceding one-step wet digestion in a high-pressure microwave system have been developed. The application of aqua regia as a reagent for wet digestion using a high-pressure microwave digestion system, followed by determination using HR–ICP–MS, allows an accurate, simultaneous determination of a large number of heavy metals and metalloids that are considered as potentially hazardous for the environment and health. The values of the concentrations of the elements in the analysed certified reference material (CRM) that have been obtained in this study can be used as indicative values where this CRM is used as a control for the quality of the measurements.  相似文献

Cyclotron resonance of ions has been proposed as a mechanism by which weak, extremely-low-frequency (ELF) electromagnetic fields can act on biological systems. Critics of a mechanism predicated on resonance of lithium have argued that this element is virtually absent from the internal milieu of mammals and otherwise plays no role in the normal physiological functioning of the organism. Sophisticated techniques of trace-element analysis have recently revealed that lithium is a normal constituent of tissues of assayed mammals, including those of rats and human beings. There is evidence, too, that lithium is an important, biologically-active element. Cyclotron resonance may or may not be a mechanism by which ELF- and static-magnetic fields at low strengths combine to affect the organism, but rejection of this mechanism on the grounds that lithium is absent or is physiologically inadequate is unwarranted. Lithium is normally present and is metabolically active in many tissues, especially those of the neuroendocrine system.  相似文献

In order to deepen our knowledge of the dietary habits of the prehispanic inhabitants of El Hierro, we have determined bone strontium (Sr), manganese (Mn), magnesium (Mg), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), and calcium (Ca) in 52 human tibiae (23 belonging to males and 20 to females individuals) buried in a single burial cave; in 21 modern individuals who served as controls; and in 11 bones of herbivores found at archeological sites of the Canary Islands. Results suggest that females consumed a more vegetarian diet, although site-corrected Sr/Ca ratio of both males and females speaks for a mixed-diet consumption.  相似文献

Batch culturing experiments were conducted to examine effects on Macrocystis pyrifera (L.) C. A. Agardh gametophytic growth of various iron and zinc concentrations in the chemically defined, artificial seawater medium, Aquil. A least squares fit of experimental data represented the relative importance of these micronutrient effects. Optimal iron and zinc concentrations in Aquil were estimated at 340 nM (7 × 10?11 nM as [Fe3+]) and 135 nM (6 × 10?2 nM as [Zn2+]), respectively.  相似文献

Specimens of 13 ichnospecies and their spatial distributions were analyzed on a spectacular cast of a turbidite sole surface (2.9 m2), from Eocene flysch of Spain. The distribution tends to be patchy. Except for postturbidite Granularia, no intraspecies overcrossing was observed. Overlapping and intersecting graphoglyptids indicate that they were formed at different times. This difference may result from (1) ecologic succession of their producers, (2) upward migration of a tiered community following sediment accretion, or (3) synchronous burrowing on the whole area, the specific places of occupation shifting with time.  相似文献

This study describes the effect of the presence of cobalt-chromium-molybdenum (CoCrMo) and titanium-6aluminium-4vanadium (Ti6AL4V) disc samples on the CD3-mediated in vitro response of human peripheral blood T lymphocyt es. Lymphocyte proliferation in the presence and absence of these metal alloy discs was measured by [3H]thymidine incorporation. Inhibition of lymphocyte proliferation was observed in the presence of CoCrMo disc samples. In contrast, the presence of the Ti6AL4V metal alloy discs had no effect on T cell proliferation. Ultrastructural studies using scanning electron microscopy revealed that the differences in the number of blast cells on uncoated CoCrMo and Ti6AL4V discs from a 4 day culture were consistent with the results observed in the proliferation experiments, i.e. fewer blast cells were seen on the CoCrMo than on the Ti6AL4V discs. In addition, a quantitative analysis of trace elements using total reflection X-ray fluorescence spectrometry in supernatants from 68 h in vitro cultures containing Ti6AL4V or CoCrMo disc samples was performed, revealing differences in the relative metal concentrations in the culture conditions tested. These differences point to the presence of cobalt in the supernatants as a possible determining factor of the inhibition observed. Because cell viability did not appear to change, a more complex mechanism involving the interaction of metals with T lymphocytes may account for the results obtained.  相似文献

The effects of dietary boron on bone ash content and on the ultimate shear force, stress, and fracture energy of the tibia, femur, humerus, and radius from white Leghorn pullets were investigated. There was a significant increase in the shear force of the tibia and femur for pullets supplemented with 50 and 100 mg/kg of dietary boron. There was a significant increase in the shear stress of the tibia at 50 and 100 mg/kg of boron, and also an increase in shear fracture energy at 50 and 100 mg/kg boron for the femur. Tibia bone ash content increased significantly at 50, 100, and 200 mg/kg boron with the highest value at 50 mg/kg. Even though there was not a significant increase in body wt at 50 and 100 mg/kg boron, the pullets fed these supplements were consistently heavier than the control group.  相似文献

This explorative study was performed to assess basic data on the Mo metabolism of premature infants. Premature (n=18, gestational age ≤32 wk, birth weight ≤1500 g) and healthy formula-fed term infants (n=14) were nourished and corrected for gestational age, identically. Plasma was collected at 3, 16, and 52 wk and 72 h balances were performed at 3 wk of age. In the premature infants, these investigations were preceded by two balance studies and an initial plasma collection. Increased Mo intake and low relative urinary excretion resulted in a retention of 4.4 (0.99–7.77) μg Mo/kg initially in premature infants (median, range). Parallel plasma concentrations were 5.5 (2.5–7.3) μg Mo/L, declining to 2.36 (0.73–3.87) μg Mo/L at 4 wk. Term infants rendered 1.49 (0.29–1.7) μg Mo/L (p<0.05), with no significant differences later. It was concluded that the supplementation of formulas for premature infants with Mo should be recinded until there is evidence for its necessity.  相似文献
