依兰花精油的香气成分

云南省西双版纳产依兰油,用Finnigan-4510型毛细管气相色谱/质谱/计算机联用方法进行了化学成分分析,共分离检出了50个成分,鉴定了其中22个成分,占全精油的95.27％。主要成分为:β-丁香烯(33.00％),γ-穆罗烯(19.82％)。α-(艹律)草烯(7.69％),乙酸香叶酯(6.21％),香柠檬烯(5.40％),苯甲酸苄酯(5.33％),金合欢醇(4.75％),金合欢烯(3.29％),香叶醇(2.48％),对甲酚甲醚(2.41％)。并讨论了如何提高国产依兰油质量的问题。     

Diversity in the immune system: “Preconceived ideas” or ideas preconceived?

Two concepts of the evolution and regulation of expression of the combining site repertoire of the immune system, are compared. One view is based on the Associative Recognition Theory as formulated by the author and the other is based on the Idiotype Network Idea as conceived by Jerne. The two concepts are analyzed from the point of view of their logic, internal consistency and factual support.     

Blood supply of the bed nucleus of the stria terminalis in rat

Summary The topographical distribution of the blood vessels in the bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (NIST) has been mapped in rats. Arteries and veins were visualized in red and blue by using a double-ink perfusion technique. Arteries supplying the NIST arise from the anterior cerebral artery directly or through the anterior communicating and interhemispheric arteries. Only a few, dorsal branches derive from the medial cerebral artery through thalamostriatal arteries. According to their terminal branches, NIST arteries can be divided into five groups: medial, ventral, lateral, septal and dorsal, which have only a relatively small overlap in their territories. About 90% of veins from the NIST drain into the major basal veins. Medial branches run into the perioptic and interhemispheric veins, while the ventral branches and the large lateral vein drain directly into the anterior cerebral vein. A small proportion of NIST veins run dorsalward into the vena cerebri magna via thalamostriatal veins.     

Antigenic variation is associated with DNA rearrangements in a relapsing fever Borrelia

Borrelia hermsii, an agent of relapsing fever, undergoes antigenic variation in its host. Surface-exposed proteins with differing primary structures determine the serotype of each organism. Using amino acid sequence data from two of these variable proteins, we synthesized two mixed-sequence oligonucleotides and then used the oligonucleotides to probe mRNA and DNA of three isogenic serotypes of B. hermsii. In Northern blots the probes were specific for the mRNA of the homologous serotype. Southern blots revealed two classes of hybridizing fragments: those common to the three serotypes and those specific for a particular serotype. A serotype-specific DNA fragment, which had hybridized to both oligonucleotide probes, was cloned. Subsequent use of the cloned fragment as a probe provided further evidence that antigenic variation in B. hermsii is associated with DNA rearrangements and with occurrence of expression-linked copies of all, or part, of an antigen-specifying gene.     

猫脑干上涎核节前神经元电活动的观察

在麻醉的32只猫记录了电刺激颌下腺神经支引起的上涎核平均场电位和单位放电。逆行电刺激颌下腺神经支引起的上涎核平均场电位分布在同侧脑干背面闩部头端5.5—8mm处,与过去的组织学结果大致符合。用微电极在上涎核记录了68个对刺激颌下腺神经支有反应的单位,其中33个单位作了碰撞试验。有9个单位符合逆向反应标准,它们是真正的颌下腺节前神经元,逆行反应的潜伏期为14.4±2.5ms,其轴突传导速度为2.9±0.1m/s。其他不符合逆向反应标准的单位,对刺激颌下腺神经支仍能发生反应,估计多为中间神经元。在一部分单位观察了电刺激舌神经或味觉刺激舌引起的反应。根据这些观察对上涎核内存在复杂神经元回路的可能性作了讨论。     

Age and growth of a colonizing minnow,Barbus anoplus,in a man-made lake in South Africa

Synopsis Aspects of the life history of Barbus anoplus were studied in Lake le Roux, a turbid man-made lake on the Orange River, South Africa. This minnow underwent a population explosion and successfully colonized the shoreline of the newly-formed lake during the early phases of reservoir filling. Male and female B. anoplus reach sexual maturity in one year at about 40 mm fork length. They have a multiple spawning habit with the first spawning in November–January and the second in February–March. The growth of the two resulting cohorts is discussed. It is proposed that the offspring from the second spawning not only acts as a ‘back-up’ but is capable of prolonging the life of that year-class into an additional reproductive season. Most of the minnows die after their second summer, but more offspring from the second spawning, especially females, live into a third summer. Females attain a larger maximum size (73 mm FL) and age (3–4 years) than males (60 mm FL, 2–3 years). B. anoplus is small and short-lived with a high seasonal reproductive potential, which is in contrast to the larger Barbus species in the Orange River system. These life-history traits enable the species to colonize and successfully inhabit unstable environments and probably account for its widespread distribution.     

足籽骨的放射片研究

本文对山东枣庄市916人足放射片进行了足籽骨的观察与测量。发现每足有1-7个籽骨,其中二个者占77.8％,三个者占16.9％;籽骨位于跖骨头下方者占94.5％,位于趾间关节下方者占5.5％;各跖骨头籽骨出现率:Ⅰ占99.9％、Ⅱ占 2.2％、Ⅲ占0.3％、Ⅳ占0.5％、Ⅴ占6.4％;(足母)趾趾间关节籽骨占12.6％;二分及三分籽骨出现率占3.9％,明显低于欧美人。此外,本文认为籽骨是在先天籽骨原基基础上,加以后天运动的影响而形成。     

Zinc is a constituent of bovine heart cytochrome c oxidase preparations

Cytochrome c oxidase preparations from bovine heart muscle contain 1 zinc per 2 irons. Metal contents of nine preparations determined by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) show that Cu, Fe and Zn are the only metals present in significant amounts with average Cu/Fe, Fe/Zn, and Cu/Zn atom ratios of 1.3, 2.1 and 2.8, respectively. Removal of adventitious copper results in a Cu:Fe:Zn stoichiometry of 2:2:1. The zinc is tightly bound. Dialysis against a solution of 1,10-phenanthroline at pH 7.4 or an acidic buffer (pH 4.4) does not remove Zn. Dialysis against 0.8 M KCN at pH 10 causes partial loss of both Cu and Zn. This is the first evidence for the presence of Zn in a cytochrome c oxidase.     

Pharmacokinetic study of exogenously administered ß-endorphin using a rapid radioreceptor assay in rats

A rapid radioreceptor assay for measuring ß-endorphin (ß-EP) in unextracted serum has been developed. The method is based upon the inhibition by ß-EP of ³H-naloxone binding to the specific receptors on rat brain membranes, prepared in a stable form of pellets. Effect of serum on the assay was minimized by adding pooled serum to the equal dilution of total serum in the assay mixture. Pharmacokinetic analysis of pharmacologically active ß-EP equivalents (ß-EP eq.) in rats was performed using this method. The serum disappearance of ß-EP eq. after iv administration followed a biexponential decline and pharmacokinetic parameters were calculated by a two-compartment open model. The half-lives of α-phase and ß-phase were 2.6 ± 0.5 min and 6.2 ± 1.6 hr (mean ± SE; n=6), respectively. The volume of the central compartment (V₁) and that of steady-state (Vd_ss) were 67 ± 16 and 480 ± 75 ml/kg (mean ± SE; n=6), respectively. The total body serum clearance (CL_tot) was 2.1 ± 0.9 ml/min/kg (mean ± SE; n=6). The serum disappearance curve of ß-EP eq. obtained in the present study was similar to that previously reported by Houghten et al. (Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U.S.A. $\text{77}$, 4588–4591 (1980)), in which the disapperance of total radioactivity of tritiated ß-EP in rats was examined.
