C1q,a collagen-like complement subcomponent,in dermatosparactic cattle: its extracellular modification is not affected by lack of procollagen N-terminal proteinase (pN-proteinase)

C1q, a collagen-like complement protein, was purified from the serum of a ddermatosparactic calf which lacks procollagen N-terminal proteinase (pN-proteinase). The specific hemolytic activity of the serum Clq from the dermatosparactic animal was identical to that of C1q from a normal calf. Gel-filtration of serum from dermatosparactic calf, on Sepharose 6B, showed the presence of C1q-antigenic material at only one position which was identical to the elution position of normal bovine C1q. No differdence, under dissociating conditions, could be seen in the size of the chains of C1q in specific immunoprecipitates isolated from the sera of dermatosparactic and normal animals, as judged by polyacrylamidegel electrophoresis (PAGE) in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). The C1q from the dermatosparactic animal showed the same N-terminal amino acid and typtic-digest peptide pattern on HPLC as C1q from the normal calf. These results strongly suggest that pN-proteinase is not involved in the extracellular processing of C1q.

Chromium in plants

Chromium is an essential trace element and is associated with some biological pathways, especially with glucose tolerance. For these reasons, we decided to determine the concentration of chromium in two sets of Brazilian medicinal plants. The first group consisted of plants that are considered as antidiabetic, whereas the second included plants that do not have this therapeutic property. The concentration of chromium was determined by flameless atomic absorption. All the plants analyzed contain chromium in the normal range for this element, but the hypoglycemic plants contain more chromium than the others (1–4 μg/g compared to 0.5–1.5 μg/g).     

射击过程中主要生理特征的研究

八名射击运动员(手枪2人,步枪6人),在实弹射击训练中,连续同步地记录了脑电、心电、心率、阻抗呼吸波。同时记录了受试者持枪稳定的程度。 分析表明,射击环数是五项独立无关的指标综合作用的结果。本文首次对射击时生理指标和射击环数进行系统辨识建模分析,求出每个人的系统参数_i值。找出了每人射击时最佳生理参数,为指导射击练习和反馈训练,提供了客观生理依据。 本文设计的激光光点录相方法,可反映持枪稳定的程度,简单、方便,可在射击训练中采用。     

无样地法在暖温带落叶阔叶林群落调查中的应用

本文以秦岭太白山自然保护区内锐齿栎(Quercus atiena var. acuteserrota)为优势的暖温带落叶阔叶林为对象,采用与大样地(0.5公顷)实测结果的比较,研究了无样地法中的中点四分法取样技术在暖温带落叶阔叶林中的应用。认为中点四分法取样技术,具有较高的精度和效率,可适用于暖温带落叶阔叶林。并用种点数曲线确定了暖温带落叶阔叶林的最小点数为15个。     

蚕豆叶片尿囊素酶性质初探

酰尿输出型蚕豆有一定程度合成和同化酰脲的能力(刘承宪和黄维南1987a),蚕豆叶片尿囊素酶(B-ALNase)和酰脲输出型大豆叶片尿囊素酶(S-ALNase)(Thomas等1983)不同,是热敏感的(刘承宪和黄维南 1987b)。我们进一步分离和纯化B-ALNase,并作了初步的鉴

本文记述了云南省(虫齿)目二新种,Tapinella bannana sp.n.和Peripsocus plurimaculatus sp.n.及一新种记录种Ophiodopelma semicets Lee and Thornton,其雄虫为首次记载。     

高胆固醇血症家兔红细胞在交、直流电场中的电泳行为

本文对高胆固醇血症家兔红细胞在交、直流电场中的电泳行为进行了多指标测定,结果显示,高脂组与正常组相比红细胞聚集能力增强,变形能力及膜流动性下降,表明高脂血症可能较易导致血栓形成。中药有效成分8501有对抗高脂引起的红细胞上述改变的作用,提示8501可能对血栓和动脉粥样硬化斑块形成有防治作用。     

Morphometric investigations of the colon mucosa in chronicTrypanosoma cruzi infected rats

The objective of this investigation was to study the morphometry of the epithelial mucosa in the chronic phase ofT. cruzi infection. Nine young female Wistar rats were inoculated withT. cruzi. Ten months after inoculation the animals were sacrificed and the proximal colon was collected for morphometric measurements of the thickness of the muscle layers, the number of neurons in the myenteric plexus, the crypt cell population (CCP), crypt cell production per crypt (CCPC) and turnover time (TT) of the epithelium. There was no muscle layer hypertrophy but there was significant denervation in the group inoculated withT. cruzi, which also showed hyperplasia of the epithelium. The data suggest that denervation of the myenteric plexus did not induce hypertrophy of the propria muscle layer itself but altered the morphometry of the colonic epithelium inT. crwzi-infected animals, with increased development of CCP and TT. It is possible that this epithelial hyperplasia, as a consequence of a longer crypt cell TT, increased the absorption and secretion activities of the colon, which in turn may participate in the genesis of the enteromegalies observed in the chronic phase of Chagas’ Disease.     

Dioecy inMikania (Compositae:Eupatorieae)

For the first time dioecy inMikania and in the tribeEupatorieae is described and discussed. The condition is known only in members of theMikania swartziana Griseb. complex, a group of eight species, all endemic to the Greater Antillean Islands of Cuba, Hispaniola, and Jamaica.
