New alkaloids from Glycosmis mauritiana

Chemical investigation of the roots of G. mauritiana resulted in the isolation of two new alkaloids; 1-hydroxy-3-methoxy-2-(3-methylbut-2-enyl)-N-methylacridan-9-one (1) and 4,8-dimethoxy-3-(3-methylbut-2-enyl)-N-methyl-2-quinolone (6). The structures of these new bases have been established by chemical and spectroscopic methods and confirmed in the case of 6 by its synthesis. Interestingly, the formic acid-catalysed cyclisation of 1 gave the dealkylated product 3 along with the pyrano-[2, 3-a]-acridine (4).     

New alkaloids from Banisteriopsis caapi

Three new alkaloids isolated from Banisteriopsis caapi, were identified as harmic amide (1-carbamoyl-7-methoxy β-carboline), acetyl norharmine (1-acetyl-7-methoxy β-carboline) and ketotetrahydronorharmine (7-methoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1-oxo-β-carboline)     

Origin of sclerotia-like cells in submerged Claviceps purpurea producing clavine alkaloids

Ultrathin sectioning of submerged mycelium of Claviceps purpurea Tul. producing clavine alkaloids revealed yeast-like budding resulting in asexual sporesblastospores. These deciduous spores were born by extended hyphal cells and retained the same ultrastructure of cell organelles. Both the extended hyphae and the blastospores resembled the cells of ergot sclerotial tissue. A surface culture of C. purpurea Tul. producing no alkaloids was used as a reference.     

Structure des caboxines: Alcaloïdes oxindoliques du Cabucala fasciculata

The structures of three new 11-monomethoxy pentacyclic oxindole alkaloids have been elucidated by chemical correlations with reserpinine: caboxine-A was assigned to the allo C₁₉-méthyl α series: 3S, 4R, 7S, 19S; isocaboxine-A and B to the epi-allo C₁₉-methyl α series and have, respectively, the following configurations 3R, 4S, 7S, 19S and 3R, 4S, 7R, 19S.     

La criocerine: Nouvel alcaloide isole des tiges de Crioceras dipladeniiflorus

Seven indolic alkaloids have been isolated from the stem bark of Crioceras dipladeniiflorus. One of them is new and has been called criocerine. Its structure, 7, has been established by use of physical data and chemical correlation with [Δ¹⁴]-vincamine.     

Nicotine N-oxides

Nicotine-1-N-oxide, trans and cis isomers of nicotine-1′-N-oxide and of nicotine-1,1′-di-N-oxide have been prepared and characterised by NMR, MS and reduction to nicotine. The trans and cis isomers of nicotine-1′-N-oxide have been identified in leaves, stems and roots of Nicotiana tabacum, N. affinis and N. sylvestris.
