Homogenates from 4-day-old gherkin cotyledons and hypocotyls fractionated by sucrose density gradient centrifugation contain cinnamic acid 4-hydroxylase activity, the activity being highest in the endoplasmic reticulum fractions. These fractions also contain very low concentrations of cytochrome P450. Hydroxylase activity is dependent on NADPH and on molecular oxygen, is optimal at pH 7.5 and is inhibited by carbon monoxide. The enzyme is very sensitive to inhibition by 2-mercaptoethanol, but it is not inhibited by the product, p-coumaric acid. Further, its responses to various potential inhibitors are fairly typical of mixed function oxidases from other sources. 相似文献

Canopy height variation and environmental heterogeneity in the tropical dry forests of coastal Oaxaca,Mexico 下载免费PDF全文
Despite its importance for carbon storage and other ecosystem functions, the variation in vegetation canopy height is not yet well understood. We examined the relationship between this community attribute and environmental heterogeneity in a tropical dry forest of southern Mexico. We sampled vegetation in 15 sites along a 100‐km coastal stretch of Oaxaca State, and measured the heights of all woody plants (excluding lianas). The majority of the ca. 4000 individuals recorded concentrated in the 4–8 m height range. We defined three plant sets to describe overall community canopy height at each site: a set including all plants, a set made up by the tallest plants representing 10 percent of all individuals, and a set comprising the 10 tallest plants. For each site we computed maximum height and the mean and median heights of the three sets. Significant collinearity was observed between the seven resulting height variables, but null distributions constructed through bootstrap revealed their different behaviors as functions of species richness and density of individuals. Through linear modeling and a model selection procedure, we identified 21 models that best described the variation in canopy height variables. These models pointed out to soil (measured as PC1 of a principal component analysis performed on 10 soil variables), water stress, and elevation as the main drivers of canopy height variation in the region. In the event of increasing water stress resulting from global climate change, the studied tropical dry forests could become shorter and thus decrease their carbon storage potential. 相似文献

Poly‐dimethylsiloxane (PDMS) films with 2D periodic inverted moth‐eye nanopatterns on one surface are implemented as antireflection (AR) layers on a glass substrate for efficient light capture in encapsulated organic solar cells (OSCs). The inverted moth‐eye nanopatterned PDMS (IMN PDMS) films are fabricated by a soft imprint lithographic method using conical subwavelength grating patterns formed by laser interference lithography/dry etching. Their optical characteristics, together with theoretical analysis using rigorous coupled‐wave analysis simulation, and wetting behaviors are investigated. For a period of 380 nm, IMN PDMS films laminated on glass substrates exhibit a hydrophobic surface with a water contact angle (θCA) of ≈120° and solar weighted transmittance (SWT) of ≈94.2%, both significantly higher than those (θCA≈ 36° and SWT ≈ 90.3%) of bare glass substrates. By employing IMN PDMS films with a period of 380 nm on glass substrates for OSCs, an enhanced power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 6.19% is obtained mainly due to the increased short‐circuit current density (Jsc) of 19.74 mA cm‐2 compared to the OSCs with the bare glass substrates (PCE = 5.16% and Jsc = 17.25 mA cm‐2). The bacterial-chemical oxidation of natural pyrites with different physical, chemical, and electrophysical characteristics by bacteria Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans, Sulfobacillus thermotolerans, and the archaeon Ferroplasma acidiphilum were studied. The electrophysical characteristics of three natural pyrites differed in the K thermoEMF value (pyrites 3, 4, hole conduction (p-type conductivity); pyrite 5, mixed type conductivity (n-p)) and in the logarithm of electric resistance. Chemical oxidation of pyrites 3 and 5 resulted in no changes of K thermoEMF. When pyrite 4 was oxidized chemically, the K thermoEMF values remained in the same range as in the initial sample, but the ratio of grains with different K thermoEMF values in the sample was changed: the number of grains with a higher K thermoEMF value increased. The same changes were also observed in the course of bacterio-chemical oxidation of pyrite 4. Of the three pyrites studied, an increase in the logarithm of resistance was observed only for chemical oxidation of pyrite 4 at 28°C. At higher experimental temperatures, the logarithm of resistance increased accordingly; more active bacterial-chemical oxidation resulted in a more pronounced increase in the logarithm of resistance than chemical oxidation. On bacterial-chemical oxidation of pyrites 3 and 5 by A. ferrooxidans and S. thermotolerans strains, iron was leached more actively than sulfur. Preferred bacterial-chemical oxidation of certain fractions from the pyrite samples was shown, namely of the pyrite 3 fraction with higher K thermoEMF values by the F. acidiphilum strain and of a fraction from the pyrite 5 sample with medium K thermoEMF values by the A. ferrooxidans and S. thermotolerans strains. The comparative assessment of bacterial-chemical pyrite oxidation by three types of microorganisms showed the direction of changes in the K thermoEMF values to be the same in the case of bacteria Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans and Sulfobacillus thermotolerans and different in the case of the archaeon Ferroplasma acidiphilum. 相似文献

We measured the reflectance properties of unpigmented silks spun by a systematic array of primitive (Deinopoidea) and derived (Araneoidea) aerial, web-spinning spiders, as well as silks spun by Araneomorphae and Mygalomorphae spiders that do not spin aerial webs. Our data show that all of the primitive aerial web spinners produce catching silks with a spectral peak in the ultraviolet (UV), and cladistic analysis suggests that high UV reflection is the primitive character state for silk spectral properties. In contrast, all of the derived aerial web spinners produce silks that are spectrally flat or characterized by reduced reflectance in the UV. Correlated with the evolution of these catching silks is a 37-fold increase in species number and apparent habitat expansion. This suggests that the unique silk proteins spun by the araneoids have been important to their ecological and evolutionary diversity. 相似文献

Abstract The distribution of macrophytic plant communities, defined by phytosociological numerical methods, in the irrigation system of the Lower river Po Plane was correlated with water characteristich. Water samples were collected periodically within phytocoena well-characterized from the phytosociological viewpoint. Nymphaeid-dominated communities (all. Nymphaeion) usually occur in deeper waters than elodeid- myriophyllid-, and ceratophyllid-dominated vegetation types (all. Potamogetonion). Hydrochemically, all of the studied waterbodies can be classified as rich in electrolytes and in bicarbonates. The distribution of phytocoena reflects a gradient in nutrient content: the Nymphoidetum peltatae characterizes waters moderately rich; the Myriophyllum spicatum community and the Trapetum natantis fairly rich; the Potamogetonetum pectinati and the Ceratophyllum demersum community very rich in nutrients. 相似文献

Cryopreservation currently is the only method for long-term preservation of cellular viability and function for uses in cellular therapies. Characterizing the cryobiological response of a cell type is essential in the approach to designing and optimizing cryopreservation protocols. For cells used in therapies, there is significant interest in designing cryopreservation protocols that do not rely on dimethyl sulfoxide (Me2SO) as a cryoprotectant, since this cryoprotectant has been shown to have adverse effects on hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) transplant patients. This study characterized the cryobiological responses of the human erythroleukemic stem cell line TF-1, as a model for HSC. We measured the osmotic parameters of TF-1 cells, including the osmotically-inactive fraction, temperature-dependent membrane hydraulic conductivity and the membrane permeability to 1 M Me2SO. A two-step freezing procedure (interrupted rapid cooling with hold time) and a graded freezing procedure (interrupted slow cooling without hold time) were used to characterize TF-1 cell recovery during various phases of the cooling process. One outcome of these experiments was high recovery of TF-1 cells cryopreserved in the absence of traditional cryoprotectants. The results of this study of the cryobiology of TF-1 cells will be critical for future understanding of the cryobiology of HSC, and to the design of cryopreservation protocols with specific design criteria for applications in cellular therapies. 相似文献

In the first part of their investigations of the weed seed bank in a 110 ha landscape segment in southern Bavaria, Albrecht & Forster (1996) showed that there was a tremendous spatial variability in seed density as well as in species composition. The intention of the present paper was to elucidate the reasons for this variability. For this purpose, the influence of soil conditions, land use practices, and soil fauna, all of which are environmental factors potentially affecting the weed seed bank, were investigated.Highly significant correlations were observed between the soil seed bank, preceding management variables, and the available field capacity. In contrast, multiple regression analyses between seed banks and the chemical characteristics of the soil, soil fauna, and actual management showed either minor correlation or none at all. Thus, prior management and water supply must be supposed to have had the most decisive influence on the soil seed bank.Several environmental variables affect arable weed populations, not so much through the soil seed bank but through the germination, establishment, and reproduction phases in the field. For this reason the relations between the apparent weed flora and the potential vegetation in the soil also were investigated. The correlation of the soil seed content and the density of individuals on the soil surface was highly significant. The analysis for a single species revealed that the seed bank/field density-ratios of different taxa vary from below 10:1 up to 100:1 and more. This wide range may be related to the life-forms and ecological requirements characteristic for each species.Finally, comparisons of the environmental variables with the soil seed bank and surface vegetation allowed ranking of the variables as to their importance for these two stadia of plant population development. These investigations indicated that the preceding management by different farmers exerted a more decisive influence on the number of seeds in the soil. In contrast, the actual grain yield and N-content in a soil showed a closer relationship to the soil surface vegetation. With regard to the species composition, no distinct differences in the environmental relationships between the soil seed bank and the soil surface vegetation could be observed. 相似文献

Goal, Scope and Background The life cycles of many products including textiles contain chemicals for which process flow data are not known or are too
time consuming to collect. Although each chemical may not contribute significantly to the LCA results of the product, which
might justify excluding them, but together their contribution could be significant. Similarly, rough estimates of the process
flows for the production of a single chemical may be very uncertain and considered meaningless, while the estimates of the
cumulative data of process flows for several chemicals may be less uncertain and be a meaningful contribution to the quality
of the LCA results. There are methods for estimation of process flows for different types of products, with varying demands
regarding input data and time and with varying accuracy of the results. This work contributes to the available methods, focusing
on simple estimations for production of chemical substances. The goal was to create a fast method for estimation of emissions,
resource and energy flows (process flows) for the production of chemicals, based on easily available data on the properties
of the chemicals. The process flows investigated were limited to those normally associated with process industries and contributing
most to depletion of resources, to global warming, acidification, eutrophication and photochemical ozone production, i.e.
use of energy, crude oil, coal, natural gas, uranium in ore and emissions of CO2, SOx, NOx, NMVOC, methane, BOD, COD and total
N. Toxic substances were excluded, since toxic emissions are substance specific and cannot be included in a generalization.
Method Available data for the process flows for the production of chemicals of mainly fossil origin were correlated to properties
of chemicals such as amount of carbon in the molecule, heat of formation and average number of chemical reaction steps in
the production. The production procedures were found in readily available literature. Up to about six reaction steps were
evaluated in the correlation study. The variations in the process flows among the chemicals studied were calculated.
Results and Discussion There were weak correlations between average number of chemical reaction steps in the production and energy use, COD measured
in water emissions, and SOx and NOx emissions to air. For the remaining properties of chemicals and process flows, there were
only weak correlations for share of double bonding in the molecule if only molecules containing double bondings were included.
Conclusions The precision in estimation of the process flows increases non-significantly when adding information on the number of reaction
steps or share of double bonding for chemicals containing double bonding is added.
Recommendations and Outlook It seems reasonable to start with a simple grouping method to estimate the process flows for the production of a chemical
of fossil origin. Further investigations might investigate whether there is a correlation between process flows and the costs
of chemicals, and further study the correlations between process flows and share of double bonding for chemicals containing
