Over the last 40 years, new sunflower downy mildew isolates (Plasmopara halstedii) have overcome major gene resistances in sunflower, requiring the identification of additional and possibly more durable broad‐spectrum resistances. Here, 354 RXLR effectors defined in silico from our new genomic data were classified in a network of 40 connected components sharing conserved protein domains. Among 205 RXLR effector genes encoding conserved proteins in 17 P. halstedii pathotypes of varying virulence, we selected 30 effectors that were expressed during plant infection as potentially essential genes to target broad‐spectrum resistance in sunflower. The transient expression of the 30 core effectors in sunflower and in Nicotiana benthamiana leaves revealed a wide diversity of targeted subcellular compartments, including organelles not so far shown to be targeted by oomycete effectors such as chloroplasts and processing bodies. More than half of the 30 core effectors were able to suppress pattern‐triggered immunity in N. benthamiana, and five of these induced hypersensitive responses (HR) in sunflower broad‐spectrum resistant lines. HR triggered by PhRXLRC01 co‐segregated with Pl22 resistance in F3 populations and both traits localized in 1.7 Mb on chromosome 13 of the sunflower genome. Pl22 resistance was physically mapped on the sunflower genome recently sequenced, unlike all the other downy mildew resistances published so far. PhRXLRC01 and Pl22 are proposed as an avirulence/resistance gene couple not previously described in sunflower. Core effector recognition is a successful strategy to accelerate broad‐spectrum resistance gene identification in complex crop genomes such as sunflower. 相似文献

Insect infestation, soil moisture, and yield were examined in populations of≈33 140 plants/ha (low) and ≈ 40 340 plants/ha (high) of an oilseed sunflower, Helianthus annuus L, cv. ' Triumph 660CL' with two levels of weediness. Less weedy plots resulted from the application of herbicide combination of S-metolachlor and sulfentrazone, whereas more weedy plots resulted from application of sulfentrazone alone. Among the 12 weed species recorded, neither plant numbers nor biomass differed between crop plant densities. Larvae of the stalk-boring insects Cylindrocopturus adspersus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) and Mordellistena sp. (Coleoptera: Mordellidae) were less abundant in high density sunflowers, ostensibly due to reduced plant size. However, the same effect was not observed for Dectes texanus (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) or Pelochrista womanana (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae), two other stalk-boring insects. Soil moisture was highest in low density and lowest in the high density sunflowers that were less weedy. Stalk circumference, head diameter, and seed weight were reduced for sunflower plants with short interplant distances (mean = 20 cm apart) compared to plants with long interplant distances (mean = 46 cm apart). These three variables were greater in less weedy plots compared with more weedy plot〉 and positively correlated with interplant distance. Yields on a per-hectare basis paralleled those on a per-plant basis but were not different among treatments. The agronomic implications of planting density are discussed in the context of weed and insect management. 相似文献

We have monitored the electrical potential variations (EPV) of sunflower plants illuminated by a high-intensity microwave-frequency (2.5 GHz, 1.5 kV/m) electromagnetic field (EMF). We have designed an appropriate set-up that allows parallel temperature and EPV measurements while part of the plant is being exposed to the field. The results show that the considered EMF does not induce plant EPV directly. This electrophysiological response appears only when the EMF leads to a mechanical injury of the tissues via a thermal effect (dielectric heating). Once the plant inner temperature reached a threshold, we systematically observed burn-like lesions associated with the bending of the stem or leaf-stalks. Theses mechanical constraints were rapidly followed by EPVs, moving through the stem. 相似文献

This study reports the immobilization and performance of a hydrocarbon-degrading Rhodococcus sp. strain (designated as QBTo) on sunflower seed husks (SH) for the bioremediation of soils polluted with crude oil. The SH performance as inoculants carrier was compared with peat, which is a vegetal material traditionally used in carrier-based inoculants production. The stability of the immobilized culture under storage conditions was assessed by viability at different times when stored at 25°C and 10°C. The catabolic activity of immobilized and free QTBo cells introduced into sandy loam soil, freshly contaminated with crude oil, was studied in microcosms. A higher number of viable QTBo cells were recovered from the inoculants formulated with SH (QTBo-SH) after prolonged storage at 10°C and 25°C. The microcosms amended with QTBo-SH inoculants showed a removal of about 66% of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH), whereas in those inoculated with QTBo-peat inoculants, the decrease was of about 47%. In the control microcosms (noninoculated) and liquid culture–amended soils, the TPH removal was about 28%. SH is a waste of edible oil industry, nontoxic, and biodegradable and has demonstrated to confer to the immobilized cultures greater potential to survive not only during storage but also in the soil environment, improving bioremediation process. 相似文献

In a 2×2 factorial design, 12 Thai Native and 12 Holstein bulls were fed ad libitum a total mixed ration (20 : 80; roughage : concentrate) with whole cottonseed (WCS) or sunflower seed (SFS) as oilseed sources. The rations contained 7% crude fat and were fed for 90 days. Plasma was taken at three times during the experiment, and at slaughter the longissimus dorsi and subcutaneous fat were sampled for fatty acid analysis. Ration did not affect rumen fermentation parameters. The plasma fatty acid profile was not affected by ration. In subcutaneous fat, a ration×breed interaction for the saturated fatty acid (SFA) and c9t11 CLA proportions was observed, resulting from larger differences between the rations in Thai Native compared with Holstein bulls. The WCS ration resulted in higher proportions of SFA and lower proportions of monounsaturated fatty acids and c9,t11 CLA compared with the SFS ration (P<0.01). In the intramuscular fat, the WCS ration was also associated with a lower c9t11 CLA proportion (P<0.01) and higher SFA proportion (P<0.05). The intramuscular proportion of polyunsaturated acids was higher and the proportion of SFA was lower in Thai Native compared with Holstein bulls (P<0.05), irrespective of ration. 相似文献

根据加性-显性与环境互作的遗传模型,对6个油用向日葵自交系及其配制的9个杂交组合在2个环境下的7个农艺性状表现进行遗传分析,揭示油用向日葵主要农艺性状遗传性质、规律以及主要农艺性状对含油率的贡献率。结果表明:株高、茎粗、盘径、百粒重、籽仁率和单盘粒重等6个遗传性状主要受加性和显性共同控制,结实率的遗传以加性、显性×环境互作效应为主,籽仁率、单盘粒重以加性、显性、显性×环境互作效应为主;性状间的各项遗传相关性多以加性遗传相关为主。百粒重的净效应对籽实含油率的加性遗传方差贡献率最高,结实率的净效应对籽实含油率的显性遗传方差贡献率最高,单盘粒重对籽实含油率的加性×环境互作遗传方差的贡献率最高。 相似文献

Enhanced crop productivity and compatibility through intercropping of sesame and sunflower varieties 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Field trials were conducted during 2002 and 2003 to determine the productivity and compatibility of the cropping systems obtained from intercropping varieties of sesame (E8, PBTil and 530-6-1) and sunflower (Funtua, Record and Isaanka) in the humid forest–savanna transition zone which is outside the current growing areas. Intercropping did not affect the number of branches per plant, number and weight of capsules per plant, weight of seeds per plant, 1000 seed weight or seed production efficiency (SPE) of all sesame varieties in both years, except SPE in 2003. In both years, intercropping sesame with sunflower varieties significantly reduced grain yield of PBTil and E8. However, 530-6-1 produced grain yield similar to the monocrop when intercropped with Record and Funtua in 2002 and 2003, and Record in 2003. In both years, intercropping significantly depressed the grain yield of the three sunflower varieties because of reduction in their head diameter, head weight, number and weight of seeds per head and lower number of plants per unit area relative to their monocrops. E8, 530-6-1 and PBTil intercropped with the three sunflower varieties recorded land equivalent ratio values in the range of 1.13–1.37, 1.32–1.46 and 1.22–1.35, respectively. Based on competitive ratio values, E8 demonstrated the greatest ability to compensate for intercrop competition with taller sunflower varieties. It was concluded that growers can successfully cultivate sesame (530-6-1 and PBTil) under intercropping with sunflower in the humid forest–savanna transition zone. 相似文献

Hybrid speciation is thought to be facilitated by escape of early generation hybrids into new habitats, subsequent environmental selection and adaptation. Here, we ask whether two homoploid hybrid plant species (Helianthus anomalus, H. deserticola) diverged sufficiently from their ancestral parent species (H. annuus, H. petiolaris) during hybrid speciation so that they are more fit than the parent species in hybrid species habitats. Hybrid and parental species were reciprocally transplanted into hybrid and parental habitats. Helianthus anomalus was more fit than parental species in the H. anomalus actively moving desert dune habitat. The abilities to tolerate burial and excavation and to obtain nutrients appear to be important for success in the H. anomalus habitat. In contrast, H. deserticola failed to outperform the parental species in the H. deserticola stabilized desert dune habitat, and several possible explanations are discussed. The home site advantage of H. anomalus is consistent with environmental selection having been a mechanism for adaptive divergence and hybrid speciation and supports the use of H. anomalus as a valuable system for further assessment of environmental selection and adaptive traits. 相似文献
