为了明确取食相同植物不同部位和营不同虫瘿的蚜虫是否存在形态适应,论文以取食杨属Populus植物的10种蚜虫为研究对象,基于蚜虫喙末端、各足跗节和爪的形态测量数据,对122个克隆的形态变异通过一般的统计描述、典型变量分析(canonical variates analysis,CVA)以及聚类分析等方法进行了研究。结果显示,不同的蚜虫克隆间形态特征存在分异,与不同的虫瘿类型和取食部位相关。3个典型变量分析明显地区分了形成虫瘿和不形成虫瘿的蚜虫克隆,在叶片上形成真虫瘿和伪虫瘿的克隆以及不产生虫瘿的克隆,并形成明显的克隆簇。而用于分析的形态学特征,如喙末端、跗节和爪的测量值,其一般统计描述的差异也支持这些区分。蚜虫自然种群不同克隆簇的区分很好地对应了不同的取食部位和不同的虫瘿类型,且各簇的形态特征体现了各自的特点,表明了蚜虫对杨属植物已经形成了良好的形态适应。同时,也初步讨论了不同蚜虫克隆簇形态适应产生的原因。并建议在基于形态特征探讨昆虫的系统发育关系和进行传统分类时,必须考虑昆虫形态特征的适应性;在深入研究昆虫与寄主植物相互之间关系时,需要将各种形态特征综合考虑并关注其它的影响因素。 相似文献

Aims: To analyse viable but nonculturable (VBNC) state induction in Escherichia coli and resuscitation of VBNC suspensions in several conditions. Methods and Results: VBNC were induced in four media, two temperatures and six strains, but only cells produced at 4°C were able to resuscitate. Resuscitation of 14 VBNC suspensions obtained in several conditions occurred in the presence of supernatants of growing cells, in minimal medium supplemented with amino acids or after temperature change, depending on strain. A limited time period beyond no more resuscitation that could be observed was also confirmed. Conclusions: The supernatants positive effect is suggested to be because of a nonproteinaceous molecule, and a combination of methionine, glutamine, threonine, serine and asparagine could be used as primary mix for resuscitation experiments. Significance and Impact of the Study: Escherichia coli resuscitation was already attempted in several conditions, but it is the first time that a positive result was observed in minimal medium supplemented with amino acids or after temperature change. Aims: This study estimated the incidence of non‐O157 verocytotoxigenic Escherichia coli (VTEC) in farm pasture soils and investigated the survival of non‐O157 VTEC in clay and sandy loam soils. Methods and Results: Twenty farms were tested over a 12‐month period by sample enrichment in tryptone soya broth plus vancomycin, followed by PCR screening for the presence of vt1 and vt2 genes. Of the 600 soil samples, 162 (27%), across all farms, were found to contain vt1 and/or vt2 genes. The enrichment cultures from the 162 PCR‐positive samples were plated onto Chromocult tryptone bile X‐glucuronide agar (TBX), presumptive VTEC colonies recovered, confirmed as VTEC by PCR and serotyped. Samples of the two predominant soil types in Ireland (clay and sandy) were homogenized, characterized in terms of pH, boron, cobalt, copper, potassium, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, zinc and organic matter content, inoculated with washed suspensions of eight non‐O157:H7 soil isolates and six bovine faecal isolates and stored at 10°C for up to 201 days. Inoculum survival rates were determined at regular intervals by recovering and plating soil samples on TBX. All inoculated non‐O157 serotypes had highest D‐values in the sandy loam soil with D‐values ranging from 50·26 to 75·60 days. The corresponding range in clay loam soils was 31·60–48·25 days. Conclusions: This study shows that non‐O157 VTEC occur widely and frequently in pasture soils and can persist in such environments for several months, with considerable opportunity for recycling through farm environments, and cattle, with clear potential for subsequent transmission into the human food chain. Significance and Impact of the Study: This is the first such study of non‐O157 VTEC in farm soils and found that these VTEC are frequent and persistent contaminants in farm soils. In light of recent epidemiological data, non‐O157 VTEC should be seen as an emerging risk to be controlled within the food chain. 相似文献

Question: How does one best choose native vegetation types and site them in reclamation of disturbed sites ranging from cropland and strip mines? Application: World‐wide, demonstrated in SE Montana. Methods: We assumed that pre‐disturbance native communities are the best targets for revegetation, and that the environmental facet each occupies naturally provides its optimal habitat. Given this assumption, we used pre‐strip‐mine data (800 points from a 88 km2 site) to demonstrate statistical methods for identifying native communities, describing them, and determining their environments. Results and conclusions: Classification and pruning analysis provided an objective method for choosing the number of target community types to be used in reclamation. The composition of eight target types, identified with these analyses, was described with a relevé table to provide a species list, target cover levels and support the choice of species to be seeded. As a basis for siting communities, we modeled community presence as a function of topography, slope/aspect, and substrate. Logistic GLMs identified the optimal environment for each community. Classification and Regression Tree (CART) analysis identified the most probable community in each environmental facet. Topography and slope were generally the best predictors in these models. Because our analyses relate native vegetation to undisturbed environments, our results may apply best to sites with minimal substrate disturbance (i.e. better to abandoned cropland than to strip‐mined sites). 相似文献

Recent phenological studies in tropical deciduous forests revealed a mosaic of vegetation composed of several pheno-phases that are evolved as an adaptation by the species to overcome seasonal drought in different ways. These pheno-phases represent extent of annual deciduousness (~leaflessness) and triggering factors for buds break (e.g. vegetative and flower). Thus, studying patterns of various pheno-phases (phonological diversity) in tropical forest have been thought to provide a potential tool to address critical questions related to climate change modeling and monitoring. In tropics, tree species represent a gradient of deciduousness (from leaf-exchanging species to >6 months deciduous species) and flowering initiation (breaking of flower buds in various part of annual cycle). Both processes are mostly triggered by variation in day length and/or temperature during late dry season/autumn, and/or first significant rain during rainy season. In addition, few factors like drought induced leaf fall and sporadic winter rains are supposed to affect these processes temporarily. Besides, the abundances of pheno-phases (i.e. leafing and flowering) also vary among tropical deciduous forest trees. Presence of such variations in tropical tree pheno-phases and their abundances are reported to vary due to micro-climatic variables and has specific implications in tropical forests. Present paper discusses the existing information on various pheno-phases and their abundances in tropical forests and role of climatic factors on tree phonological diversity. Further, we emphasized the need to develop predicting understanding of impending climatic change (i.e. precipitation and temperature) on diversity of pheno-phases by collecting long-term data on tree pheno-phases through a network of phonological stations in dry tropics. 相似文献

Cattle breeds indigenous to Africa (Sanga) compare favourably to Bos indicus breeds with regard to adaptation to harsh environments. This study compared the meat quality of three Sanga breeds (Nguni, Tuli and Drakensberger), a Sanga-related breed (Bonsmara) and a B. indicus breed (Brahman) and supported these results with biochemical and histological measurements on the M. longissimus lumborum. Twelve young grain-fed steers of each breed were slaughtered and carcasses were electrically stimulated. All Sanga (and related) breeds, with the exception of the Tuli, had lower Warner-Bratzler shear force (SF) values at 2 and 21 days post mortem compared with the BR (P < 0.05). Measurements related to the calcium-dependent protease system and myofibrillar fragmentation explained the bulk of the variation among breeds, whereas variation in fibre type, sarcomere length and connective tissue properties gave less convincing support. With the exception of the Tuli, Sanga and Sanga-related breeds produced more tender (according to SF) meat than BR, mainly due to favourable calpain-to-calpastatin ratios. Global-scale quantification of relationships between plant traits gives insight into the evolution of the world's vegetation, and is crucial for parameterizing vegetation-climate models. A database was compiled, comprising data for hundreds to thousands of species for the core 'leaf economics' traits leaf lifespan, leaf mass per area, photosynthetic capacity, dark respiration, and leaf nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations, as well as leaf potassium, photosynthetic N-use efficiency (PNUE), and leaf N : P ratio. While mean trait values differed between plant functional types, the range found within groups was often larger than differences among them. Future vegetation-climate models could incorporate this knowledge. The core leaf traits were intercorrelated, both globally and within plant functional types, forming a 'leaf economics spectrum'. While these relationships are very general, they are not universal, as significant heterogeneity exists between relationships fitted to individual sites. Much, but not all, heterogeneity can be explained by variation in sample size alone. PNUE can also be considered as part of this trait spectrum, whereas leaf K and N : P ratios are only loosely related. 相似文献

Most natural habitat in the Mascarene Islands (Mauritius, La Réunion and Rodrigues) has been transformed. Although urbanisation,
agriculture and alien plant invasions have transformed large areas in La Réunion, the island has by far the greatest area
of intact habitats in the Mascarenes, but remaining natural areas are under threat. We propose a protocol for defining a system
of habitat types and for using these to provide a preliminary assessment of conservation priorities for La Réunion. The protocol
draws on existing data and expert knowledge to map habitat types, assesses the extent of habitat transformation, and quantifies
heterogeneity between habitat types based on climate, topography and geology. The pattern of habitat transformation was uneven
among the nineteen habitat types identified. While three habitats have lost > 95% of their original area, four still retain>
80% of their original extent. Habitat types could be grouped into the following categories: (i) transformed habitats with
low levels of plant endemism, (ii) habitats confined to homogenous geology with high levels of plantendemism, and (iii) species-rich
heterogeneous habitats on diverse geological types. Priority habitats were also identified using municipalities as a basis
for implementation. Urgent action is required for several habitat types where a large part of the original extent has been
transformed. Three municipalities which contain more than 10 habitat types should receive conservation priority. The analysis
provides the basis for setting conservation priorities in La Réunion at the regional and local scale. Implications of the
results are discussed with reference to requirements for finer-scale conservation planning. 相似文献

Skeletal muscles are composed of slow- and fast-twitch muscle fibers, which have high potential in aerobic and anaerobic ATP production, respectively. To investigate the molecular basis of the difference in their functions, we examined protein profiles of skeletal muscles using sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and two-dimensional gel electrophoresis with pH 4-7 and 6-11 isoelectric focusing gels. A comparison between rat soleus and extensol digitorum longus (EDL) muscles that are predominantly slow- and fast-twitch fibers, respectively, showed that the EDL muscle had higher levels of glycogen phosphorylase, most glycolytic enzymes, glycerol 3-phosphate dehydrogenase, and creatine kinase; while the soleus muscle had higher levels of myoglobin, TCA cycle enzymes, electron transfer flavoprotein, and carbonic anhydrase III. The two muscles also expressed different isoforms of contractile proteins including myosin heavy and light chains. These protein patterns were further compared with those of red and white gastrochnemius as well as red and white quadriceps muscles. It was found that metabolic enzymes showed a concerted regulation dependent on muscle fiber types. On the other hand, expression of contractile proteins seemed to be independent of the metabolic characteristics of muscle fibers. These results suggest that metabolic enzymes and contractile proteins show different expression patterns in skeletal muscles. 相似文献
