A mathematical model, based on the Activated Sludge Model No.3 (ASM3), is developed to describe the storage and growth activities of denitrifiers in aerobic granules under anoxic conditions. In this model, mass transfer, hydrolysis, simultaneous anoxic storage and growth, anoxic maintenance, and endogenous decay are all taken into account. The model established is implemented in the well-established AQUASIM simulation software. A combination of completely mixed reactor and biofilm reactor compartments provided by AQUASIM is used to simulate the mass transport and conversion processes occurring in both bulk liquid and granules. The modeling results explicitly show that the external substrate is immediately utilized for storage and growth at feast phase. More external substrates are diverted to storage process than the primary biomass production process. The model simulation indicates that the nitrate utilization rate (NUR) of granules-based denitrification process includes four linear phases of nitrate reduction. We conducted a 3-year study of a natural population of the willow leaf beetle Plagiodera versicolora (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) on a river bank of the Inukami River, Shiga, central Japan, where four willow species (Salix chaenomeloides, S. eriocarpa, S. integra, and S. serissaefolia) occur sympatrically. Our survey showed that: (1) at the study site, the abundance of P. versicolora greatly varied among years and among willow species; (2) adult abundance changed seasonally with species-specific patterns on different willow species; and (3) the dispersal-settlement of adults had the most pronounced effects on the seasonal population growth rate of P. versicolora. Homalodisca coagulata (Say) (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae) eggs 1–10 days of age were exposed to Gonatocerus ashmeadi Girault, Gonatocerus triguttatus Girault, and Gonatocerus fasciatus Girault (all Hymenoptera: Mymaridae) in no choice laboratory trials to investigate egg age utilization and to determine which egg ages are vulnerable to attack by these three parasitoids. The H. coagulata egg ages that were most suitable for oviposition by G. ashmeadi, G. triguttatus, and G. fasciatus were eggs 3, 4, and 2 days of age, respectively. Egg ages least suitable for parasitoid development were 6–10 days for G. ashmeadi (resulting in <50% parasitism), 1–2 and 7–10 days for G. triguttatus (resulting in <25% parasitism), and 3–10 days for G. fasciatus (resulting in <11% parasitism). Pooling parasitism data across all egg ages showed that parasitism by G. ashmeadi was 12.9 and 28.5% higher compared with G. triguttatus and G. fasciatus, respectively, and G. triguttatus resulted in 15.6% higher percentage parasitism compared with G. fasciatus. Egg age had a significant effect on the percentage of female G. ashmeadi offspring produced, but this was not significant for G. triguttatus, and low G. fasciatus parasitism prevented statistical analyses for comparisons. Results from tests where females were offered a choice for oviposition between eggs 1, 3, and 5 days of age demonstrated that G. ashmeadi and G. triguttatus showed no significant oviposition preference, while percentage parasitism by G. fasciatus was 29.4 and 7.4% higher when females were presented eggs 1 and 3 days of age, respectively, compared with eggs 5 days of age. Choice tests indicated that an overlap in egg age suitability for oviposition exists between G. ashmeadi, G. triguttatus, and G. fasciatus, and that interspecific competition for eggs 1, 2, and 3 days of age may occur in the field environment. 相似文献

We reared shortnose and Atlantic sturgeons at different temperatures after hatch and measured yolk utilization rate and efficiency
(YUE), maximum standard length, survival and development of escape response. Newly hatched Atlantic sturgeon, were smaller
in size, more efficient at utilizing yolk (incorporating yolk to body tissue) and reached developmental stages sooner than
shortnose sturgeon reared at the same temperatures (13–15°C). Within each species, decreasing temperature delayed yolk absorption,
escape initiation, time to reach maximum size, and time to 100% mortality. However, YUEs and the size of the larvae at these
'stages' were independent of rearing temperature for both species. These results suggest that even as temperature drives metabolic
processes to speed up development, these two species are still extremely efficient at transferring yolk energy to body tissues.
The lower efficiencies experienced by larval shortnose may reflect difference in yolk quality between the two species and/or
the Atlantic sturgeon's higher conversion efficiency. The ability of these two sturgeon species to develop successfully and
efficiently under a wide range in temperatures may provide a competitive advantage over more stenothermic species and explain

Thirty Atlantic salmon Salmo salar parr (mean 135 mm total length, L T ) in the River Alta, Norway, were radio‐tagged and tracked during a 11–13 day period. The parr stayed within defined home ranges with a 95% probability of localization within an average area of 1286 m2 (241–3484 m2 ). On average, each parr had overlapping home ranges with 7·7 other parr, and the overlap between pairs of fish covered on average 24% of their home range areas. Mean length of the river stretch used was 90 m (22–383 m). On average, during 38%(16–77%) of the tracking surveys, the fish had moved >10 m since the previous survey. Mean total distance moved during the whole study was 402 m (208–862 m). The Atlantic salmon were most often recorded in riffles, but 27% of the parr alternated between riffles and pools. The extensive movements, flexible habitat utilization and relatively large home ranges, together with the fact that all the parr had home ranges partly overlapping with other radio‐tagged parr, indicate a flexible and variable behaviour and, thereby, a more complex social structure than a rigid defence of a fixed territory. Thus, Atlantic salmon production seems not to be limited by the highest potential number of territories for large parr in a given area. 相似文献
