Hatchery brown trout Salmo trutta (1406) of length 5–20 cm were released into a 7.5 ha shallow lake. They were recaptured with 28 multimesh gillnets of a type proposed for use in the Nordic countries and 42 single gillnets of mesh size 8–22 mm (knot to knot). Corrected for the effect of different twine thicknesses, the single nets showed the highest selectivity for 16.5 mm and smaller meshes and the multimesh nets for the larger meshes. The height of the selectivity curves increased exponentially with mesh size, and most distinctly for the multimesh nets. Over a limited range of mesh sizes the selectivity of the two types of net did not differ much. Extended over mesh sizes 10.0–55.0 mm, the catching abilities of the two types of net became considerably different.  相似文献

Differential leucocyte counts, phagocytosis, humoral antibody response and the in vitro blasto-genetic response to mitogens (lipopolysaccharide and Concanavalin A) and to an antigen ( Vibrio anguillarum ) were studied in rainbow trout exposed to 0,0.7 or 3.6 μg Cd 1−1 for 12 weeks.
Although the fish did not exhibit any clinical or histological changes, cadmium exposure was found to affect two of the immune parameters measured. The cellular response of fish immunized with V. anguillarum to the homologous antigen was significantly lower for splenocytes obtained from fish exposed to cadmium for 9 weeks (3.6 μg Cd 1−1 group) than for splenocytes obtained from non-exposed fish. Conversely, the humoral antibody response to V. anguillarum O-antigen was higher in the 3.6 μg Cd 1−1 group than in the non-exposed group. Protective immunity of fish vaccinated against V. anguillarum was equally as good in the cadmium-exposed group as in the non-exposed group. No cadmium-induced changes in differential leucocyte counts or in the proportions of phagocytic cells were observed.  相似文献

In February to March, wild brown trout Salmo trutta were captured by electrofishing in a natural watercourse (tributaries of the River Lille Aa, Denmark), individually tagged (Passive Integrated Transponders), and released. Representatives of the tagged brown trout were recaptured on the release sites in April by electrofishing and eventually caught in downstream smolt traps ('migrants') placed in the main river or by electrofishing ('residents') on the initial sites in June. Upon each capture, smolt appearance and body size were evaluated, and a non‐lethal gill biopsy was taken and used for Na+,K+‐ATPase analysis. Based on repetitive gill enzyme analysis in individual fish, a retrospective analysis of the rate of development in individual brown trout ultimately classified as migrants or residents was performed. Two months prior to migration, a bimodal morphological and physiological (gill Na+,K+‐ATPase) development concurred and was related to the subsequent differentiation into resident and migratory fractions of each population. This differentiation was unrelated to growth rate and body size of individual fish but skewed in favour of migratory females. Individuals destined to become migrants developed a smolt‐like appearance before the onset of migration and had higher rate of change of gill Na+,K+‐ATPase activity than fish remaining residents. The rate of change of gill Na+,K+‐ATPase activity was independent of the distance migrated to the trap (3–28 km). Thus in bimodal wild brown trout populations a major increase in enzyme activity takes place before migration is initiated and is a characteristic of migratory individuals only.  相似文献

The seasonal diet of a predator, brown trout Salmo trutta [total length ( L T) 17–69 cm] and simultaneous density and size‐structure of prey populations, vendace Coregonus albula and smelt Osmerus eperlanus (4–16 cm L T), in a large boreal lake were analysed and compared in 2001 and 2002. The upper L T limit for consumed prey was c . 40% of the predator L T. All brown trout, however, preferred small (<10 cm L T) and avoided large (≥10 cm L T) prey. The results also suggested that equal densities of similar‐sized (4–10 cm L T) fish of the two prey species led to random foraging on these species by brown trout, but if either one of the prey species predominated (>50%) in the lake, brown trout shifted to foraging on this species almost exclusively. Brown trout diets thus reflected the density dynamics of the two alternative prey species.  相似文献

The biosynthesis of calcitonin was studied using radioimmunochemical methods and suspensions of calcitonin-producing cells derived from trout ultimobranchial glands. [14C]leucine was incorporated into cell proteins in a linear fashion for up to 36 hrs. Acid-extracted cellular radioactivity could be precipitated by trichloroacetic acid and calcitonin antiserum. Chromatography of the cell extracts revealed two distinct peaks of radio-immunoassayable and immunoprecipitable calcitonin activity. One peak coeluted with radioiodinated calcitonin, the other as a higher molecular weight species. The relative incorporation of [14C]leucine into the higher and lower molecular weight peaks during “pulse-chase” experiments was consistent with a precursor-product relationship between them.  相似文献

Bull trout, Salvelinus confluentus (Salmonidae), are distributed in northwestern North America from Nevada to Yukon Territory, largely in interior drainages. The species is of conservation concern owing to declines in abundance, particularly in southern portions of its range. To investigate phylogenetic structure within bull trout that might form the basis for the delineation of major conservation units, we conducted a mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) survey in bull trout from throughout its range. Restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) analysis of four segments of the mtDNA genome with 11 restriction enzymes resolved 21 composite haplotypes that differed by an average of 0.5% in sequence. One group of haplotypes predominated in 'coastal' areas (west of the coastal mountain ranges) while another predominated in 'interior' regions (east of the coastal mountains). The two putative lineages differed by 0.8% in sequence and were also resolved by sequencing a portion of the ND1 gene in a representative of each RFLP haplotype. Significant variation existed within individual sample sites (12% of total variation) and among sites within major geographical regions (33%), but most variation (55%) was associated with differences between coastal and interior regions. We concluded that: (i) bull trout are subdivided into coastal and interior lineages; (ii) this subdivision reflects recent historical isolation in two refugia south of the Cordilleran ice sheet during the Pleistocene: the Chehalis and Columbia refugia; and (iii) most of the molecular variation resides at the interpopulation and inter-region levels. Conservation efforts, therefore, should focus on maintaining as many populations as possible across as many geographical regions as possible within both coastal and interior lineages.  相似文献

Sugars are utilized poorly in fish mainly because of low rates of transport across plasma membrane and phosphorylation. To evaluate whether it is possible to augment carbohydrate metabolism in fish using heterologous genes, expression of human glucose transporter type 1 (hGLUT1) and rat hexokinase type II (rHKII) complementary DNAs cloned with cytomegalovirus promoter was followed in rainbow trout embryos. Both genes were transcribed. Hexokinase activity, undetectable in control, was found in transformed blastulas. Increased rates of 14C-methylglucose uptake and sensitivity to cytochalasin B indicated the presence of facilitative hexose transport due to hGLUT1 expression. Effect of hGLUT1 on production of 14CO2 from glucose was greater than that of rHKII. Coexpression of the genes did not increase the rate of glucose oxidation compared with expression of hGLUT1 alone.
