A comparison of instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) and proton-induced X-ray emission (PIXE) results for sizefractionated atmospheric aerosols (“coarse” and “fine” fractions with an equivalent aerodynamic diameter of 2–10 Μm and < 2 Μm, respectively, or the PM10 fraction) showed that PIXE yielded significantly lower results for the PM10 and coarse fractions, especially for elements with a low Z resulting from a particle size effect. Somewhat lower PIXE results were also obtained for the fine fraction of atmospheric aerosols. A correction is also needed for irregularly shaped deposits of combustion aerosols collected by a cascade impactor in 11 size fractions ranging from 0.016 to 14.3 Μm, as well as for thick samples of fly and bottom ashes. An equivalent layer thickness (ELT) model is proposed to correct the matrix effects in PIXE. The approaches for the calculation of ELT using a comparison of PIXE and INAA results or by comparing PIXE results obtained using two different incident proton beam energies (1.31 and 2.35 MeV) are described. The correction for the ash pellets and irregular deposits are also discussed.  相似文献

The overall reduction of the environmental impact by the use of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of nitrogen oxide emissions in power plants was determined by strict application of ISO 14040 and ISO/DIS 14041. Special emphasis was placed on the implementation of the total product life cycle (PLC) of ammonium molybdate as a key input material. The environmental impact was generated by application of the life cycle assessment (LCA) concept of “ecoscarcity” and integrated in the life cycle inventory analysis (LCI) of SCR systems. The LCI was used to generate the life cycle impact assessment (LC1A) by use of different quantitative valuation methods. Under consideration of the overall LCIA results and the environmental protection costs of the SCR variants, the Ecological Effectiveness of the SCR alternatives was determined. The results enable plausible conclusions with regard to the ecological advantages of the use of deNOx catalysts in the SCR used in hard-coal fired power plants.  相似文献

Fire-driven deforestation is the major source of carbon emissions from Amazonia. Recent expansion of mechanized agriculture in forested regions of Amazonia has increased the average size of deforested areas, but related changes in fire dynamics remain poorly characterized. We estimated the contribution of fires from the deforestation process to total fire activity based on the local frequency of active fire detections from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) sensors. High-confidence fire detections at the same ground location on 2 or more days per year are most common in areas of active deforestation, where trunks, branches, and stumps can be piled and burned many times before woody fuels are depleted. Across Amazonia, high-frequency fires typical of deforestation accounted for more than 40% of the MODIS fire detections during 2003–2007. Active deforestation frontiers in Bolivia and the Brazilian states of Mato Grosso, Pará, and Rondônia contributed 84% of these high-frequency fires during this period. Among deforested areas, the frequency and timing of fire activity vary according to postclearing land use. Fire usage for expansion of mechanized crop production in Mato Grosso is more intense and more evenly distributed throughout the dry season than forest clearing for cattle ranching (4.6 vs. 1.7 fire days per deforested area, respectively), even for clearings >200 ha in size. Fires for deforestation may continue for several years, increasing the combustion completeness of cropland deforestation to nearly 100% and pasture deforestation to 50–90% over 1–3-year timescales typical of forest conversion. Our results demonstrate that there is no uniform relation between satellite-based fire detections and carbon emissions. Improved understanding of deforestation carbon losses in Amazonia will require models that capture interannual variation in the deforested area that contributes to fire activity and variable combustion completeness of individual clearings as a function of fire frequency or other evidence of postclearing land use.  相似文献

Modified synthesis and luminescence of Y2BaZnO5 phosphors activated with the rare earths (RE) Eu3+, Tb3+, Pr3+ and Sm3+ are reported. RE2BaZnO5 phosphors have attracted attention because of their interesting magnetic and optical properties; and are usually prepared using a two‐step solid‐state reaction. In the first step, carbonates or similar precursors are thoroughly mixed and heated at 900°C to decompose them to oxides. To eliminate the unwanted phases like BaRE2O4, the resulting powders are reheated at 1100°C for a long time. We prepared Y2BaZnO5 phosphors activated with various activators by replacing the first step with combustion synthesis. The photoluminescence results are presented. The photoluminescence results for Eu3+, Tb3+ and Pr3+ are in good agreement with the literature. However, photoluminescence emission from Sm3+ has not been documented previously. The excitation spectrum of Eu3+ is dominated by a charge transfer band around 261 nm, and an additional band around 238 nm is always present, irrespective of the type of activator. The presence of this band for all these different types of activators was interpreted as host absorption.  相似文献

Background

Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and C-reactive protein (CRP) are involved in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) pathogenesis. The aim of the present work was to determine plasma concentrations of MMPs and CRP in COPD associated to biomass combustion exposure (BE) and tobacco smoking (TS).

Methods

Pulmonary function tests, plasma levels of MMP-1, MMP-7, MMP-9, MMP-9/TIMP-1 and CRP were measured in COPD associated to BE (n = 40) and TS (n =40) patients, and healthy non-smoking (NS) healthy women (controls, n = 40).

Results

Plasma levels of MMP-1, MMP-7, MMP-9, and MMP-9/TIMP-1 and CRP were higher in BE and TS than in the NS healthy women (p <0.01). An inverse correlation between MMP-1, MMP-7, MMP-9, MMP-9/TIMP-1 and CRP plasma concentrations and FEV1 was observed.

Conclusions

Increase of MMPs and CRP plasma concentrations in BE suggests a systemic inflammatory phenomenon similar to that observed in COPD associated to tobacco smoking, which may also play a role in COPD pathogenesis.  相似文献

The structural and photoluminescence properties of CaYAl3O7 phosphor material doped with varying concentration of Mn2+ have been studied. The phosphor material was synthesized by the combustion method at 500 °C and was characterized using X‐ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL). X‐ray diffraction showed that the crystallites have average sizes in the range of ~58–70 nm. Corresponding Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy investigations confirm the phase formation and the presence of aluminate group (Al‐O bands) in CaYAl3O7:Mn2+ phosphor. Under the excitation at 356 nm wavelength, the PL spectra show the occurrence of two emission peaks obtained in the blue region at 389 nm and 412 nm, which is attributed to the 4 T1(G) → 6A1 transition of Mn2+ ion. Upon increasing Mn2+ concentration, the relative PL intensity shows an initial decrement followed by an increase displaying the effect of concentration quenching. Rice straw burning has accompanied paddy management for millennia, introducing black carbon (BC) into soil as the residue of incomplete combustion. This study examined the contribution of BC to soil organic matter and the rate at which it accumulates in paddy soils as a result of prolonged paddy management. Soil depth profiles were sampled along a chronosequence of 0–2000 years of rice–wheat rotation systems and adjacent non‐paddy systems (50–700 years) in the Bay of Hangzhou (Zhejiang province, China). The soil BC content and its degree of condensation were assessed using benzene‐polycarboxylic acids (BPCAs) as geochemical markers. The results showed that despite regular long term BC input, BC only contributed 7–11% of total soil organic carbon (SOC) in the topsoil horizons. Nevertheless, along with SOC, paddy soils accumulated BC with increasing duration of management until 297 years to reach a steady‐state of 13 t BC ha?1. This was 1.8 times more than in non‐paddy soils. The fate of BC in paddy soils (0–1 m) could be modeled revealing an average annual input of 44 kg ha?1 yr?1, and a mean residence time of 303 years. The subsoils contributed at least 50% to overall BC stocks, which likely derived from periods prior to land embankment and episodic burial of ancient topsoil, as also indicated by BPCA pattern changes. We conclude that there is a significant but limited accumulation of C in charred forms upon prolonged paddy management. The final contribution of BC to total SOC in paddy soils was similar to that in other aerobic ecosystems of the world.  相似文献

叶建成消耗(或叶构建消耗)是指构建单位质量(面积)叶片所需要的葡萄糖当量,是植物碳收获过程中必要的成本投资.反映植物在叶片水平上的能量和碳分配策略。基于热值、灰份含量、叶氮含量和比叶面积的测定,估算了江西九连山常绿阔叶林16个主要树种的叶建成消耗,分析比较了不同树种、不同叶寿命、比叶面积和冠层不同部位对叶建成消耗的影响。结果表明,热值组分的变化对单位质量叶建成消耗的影响最大;树种间单位质量叶建成消耗的差异不大(变化率仅3%~6%),但其单位面积叶建成消耗则存在显著差异(变化率达27%~28%);热值和单位质量叶建成消耗与比叶面积密切相关,而比叶面积随取样高度呈显著的降低趋势,最终导致热值及单位质量和单位面积的叶建成消耗均随取样高度呈显著的增加趋势。研究结果指出:(1)较高的叶建成消耗是由于植物叶片内含有较高能量投资的化学组分;(2)叶建成消耗和比叶面积随取样高度的变化综合反映了植物对光照和水分资源垂直梯度变化的可塑性适应。  相似文献
