Native unploughed tallgrass prairie from Konza Prairie, Kansas, USA is described with respect to plant species compositional changes over a five year period in response to fire and topography. The principal gradient of variation in the vegetation is related to time since burning. Species show an individualistic response in terms of relative abundance to this gradient. Both the percentage of and cover of C4 species and all grasses decrease as the prairie remains unburnt. Forb and woody plant species numbers and abundance increase along this gradient. A secondary gradient of variation reflects topography (i.e. upland versus lowland soils). Upland soils support a higher species richness and diversity. Upland and lowland plant assemblages are distinct except on annually burnt prairie. The interaction between burning regime, topography and year-to-year climatic variation affects the relative abundance of the plant species differentially. The most dominant species overall, Andropogon gerardii, was affected only by year-to-year variation (i.e. climate). Its position at the top of the species abundance hierarchy was unaffected by burning regime or soil type. The other dominant species showed a suite of varying responses to these factors.Deceased May, 1986.  相似文献

通过染色体组型分析,C带(BSG技术)分析及一种简便的Ag-NORs带分析,对四川湍蛙、理县湍蛙、棕点湍蛙和棘皮湍蛙的种间关系、染色体的演化及其性染色体等问题进行了初步探讨。结果表明:(1)四川湍蛙、理县湍蛙和棕点湍蛙之间的亲缘关系较近,而它们与棘皮湍蛙的亲缘关系较远;(2)在近缘种的分化中,染色体结构异染色质的变化和臂间倒位是重要的因素之一,这在小型染色体上表现得尤为突出;(三)四川湍蛙具有在形态上分化很明显的性染色体。C带分析表明,此性染色体主要由常染色质构成,但在其Y染色体的长臂上存在明显的中间C带,推测尚处于性染色体分化的初期阶段。  相似文献

Summary The inheritance of yellow berry, a grain disorder in durum and bread wheats, was studied in six intervarietal crosses in bread wheat. The trait was found to be controlled by either two or three dominant genes. Monosomic analysis using Chinese Spring monosomic series showed the presence of two major dominant genes on chromosomes 1A and 7A, and four modifiers on 4A, 4B, 6A and 6D, which influence the expression of yellow berry in bread wheat.  相似文献

Summary Chloroplast DNA from 44 lines of 16 wild and 7 cultivatedSolanum species were compared by restriction endonuclease analysis. Seven chloroplast genome types were identified among them by 5 restriction enzymes: Type A (S. tuberosum ssp.andigena andS. maglia); Type S (S. goniocalyx, S. phureja, S. stenotomum, S. ×chaucha and a line of ssp.andigena); Type C (S. acaule, S. bukasovii, S. canasense, S. multidissectum andS. ×juzepczukii); Type T (S. tuberosum ssp.tuberosum); Type W (other wild species); Type W (S. chacoense f.gibberulosum) and Type W (S. tarijense). From this cytoplasmic identification, it was concluded thatS. goniocalyx, S. phureja, S. ×chaucha and ssp.andigena were derived fromS. stenotomum or its primitive type, which may have originally evolved itself fromS. canasense. The chloroplast genome of the European potato, however, was introduced from the Chilean potato, which might have been primarily constructed with the nuclear genome from ssp.andigena and with cytoplasm from other species. Single-channel conductance fluctuations are analysed for gramicidin A incorporated into binary-mixed black lipid membranes of charged phosphatidic acid and neutral lecithin in different molar ratios. At very low Ca++ concentrations in the electrolyte (i.e. in the presence of EDTA) homogeneous lipid mixtures are identified through their conductance and life time probability distributions for integral gramicidin pores. As for the pure lipid components, the conductance histograms each show a single maximum with regular width and for all channels a single mean lifetime is found.For Ca++-levels (10-6–10-5 M) that are close to the critical demixing concentration (10-4 M) unusually broad conductance distributions and reduced lifetimes are found provided the PC content, x, of the membrane is close to the critical mixture (x crit0.5). We interpret this as a first example of the coupling of a membrane function (the transport of ions) to a lipid matrix with locally fluctuating composition close to a critical demixing point.For the conductance histogram of gramicidin A in an equimolar mixture of PA and PC shows two well-separated maxima. A correlation analysis between conductance and lifetime of the single pores shows that the two channel populations also differ significantly in their mean channel lifetime, *. On the basis of an artificial defoliation experiment, a new growth model of soybean was formulated through a modification of Rudd's (1980) model with regard to his equations for dry matter allocation. Compensatory growth for leaf damage was modelled by a single process in which the dry matter allocation changes dynamically according to the severity of leaf damage. The sums of squared differences between simulations and experimental soybean yields were much smaller in our modified model than in Rudd's original model. The modified model gave a better simulation of yield loss due to defoliation that varied in time and intensity. The relationship between various times and intensities of defoliation and yield loss was shown, which is essential for establishing the dynamic economic injury level in IPM.  相似文献

Platelet glycerol lysis membranes and α-granule membranes were compared with respect to protein and lipid composition. Crossed immunoelectrophoresis using antibodies against whole platelets, and sodium dodecyl sulphate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, revealed the presence of the glycoproteins IIb and IIIa, myosin and an antigen termed G4 in both membrane fractions. The glycoproteins Ia, Ib and IIIb, in addition to β2-microglobulin and actin, appeared specific for the glycerol lysis membranes, whereas two antigens, termed G8 and G18, were observed only in the α-granule membranes. The localization of glycoprotein IIa was inconclusive. Comparison with the surface-located proteins revealed that the glycerol lysis membranes represented a reasonable approximation to a plasma membrane preparation. Radioactively labelled immunoprecipitates obtained after crossed immunoelectrophoresis of 125I-labelled platelets were cut out and applied to sodium dodecyl sulphate electrophoresis on polyacrylamide slab gels. Autoradiography of the dried gels revealed that antigen G4 represented a protein with an average molecular weight of 146 000 in its unreduced state and 132 000 in its reduced state. Antigen G18 represented a protein of molecular weight 130 000–135 000 in the reduced as well as unreduced state. Quantitation of protein and lipids showed that the α-granule membranes contained about one-third as much cholesterol and 2-times as much protein in relation to phospholipids as compared to the glycerol lysis membranes. No significant difference between the two membrane preparations was found as regards the composition of their phospholipids.  相似文献

To obtain a satisfactory agreement between computed transition temperatures and those determined experimentally, we introduce explicitly water molecules which hydrate the polar headgroup of dipalmitoylphosphatidylethanolamine molecules. The calculated free energy curves as a function of the intermolecular interchain distance and the degree of hydration of the polar groups permit the determination of the transition of the phospholipid system from the gel to the liquid crystalline phase. The detailed structure of the hydration shell is defined using the supermolecular approach.  相似文献

Analyses of the fatty acid composition of the outer and inner pools of sphingomyelin in the human erythrocyte membrane revealed significant differences in molecular species composition of these two pools. The sphingomyelin in the inner monolayer, representing 15–20% of the total sphingomyelin content of this membrane, is characterized by a relatively high content (73%) of fatty acids, which have less than 20 carbon atoms, whereas these account for only 31% of the total fatty acids in the sphingomyelin in the outer leaflet. On the other hand, the ratio saturated/unsaturated fatty acids in the two pools is similar. Significant differences are also observed for the fatty acid composition of the sphingomyelin in human serum when compared to that in the outer monolayer of the corresponding red cell. These results are interpreted to indicate an (almost) complete absence of transbilayer movements of sphingomyelin molecules in the human erythrocyte membrane, whereas an exchange of this phospholipid between the red cell membrane and serum is either virtually absent, or affects only a minor fraction of the sphingomyelin in the outer membrane layer.  相似文献
