Elastic Sandwich‐Type rGO–VS2/S Composites with High Tap Density: Structural and Chemical Cooperativity Enabling Lithium–Sulfur Batteries with High Energy Density

Driven by increasing demand for high‐energy‐density batteries for consumer electronics and electric vehicles, substantial progress is achieved in the development of long‐life lithium–sulfur (Li–S) batteries. Less attention is given to Li–S batteries with high volume energy density, which is crucial for applications in compact space. Here, a series of elastic sandwich‐structured cathode materials consisting of alternating VS2‐attached reduced graphene oxide (rGO) sheets and active sulfur layers are reported. Due to the high polarity and conductivity of VS2, a small amount of VS2 can suppress the shuttle effect of polysulfides and improve the redox kinetics of sulfur species in the whole sulfur layer. Sandwich‐structured rGO–VS2/S composites exhibit significantly improved electrochemical performance, with high discharge capacities, low polarization, and excellent cycling stability compared with their bare rGO/S counterparts. Impressively, the tap density of rGO–VS2/S with 89 wt% sulfur loading is 1.84 g cm?3, which is almost three times higher than that of rGO/S with the same sulfur content (0.63 g cm?3), and the volumetric specific capacity of the whole cell is as high as 1182.1 mA h cm?3, comparable with the state‐of‐the‐art reported for energy storage devices, demonstrating the potential for application of these composites in long‐life and high‐energy‐density Li–S batteries. 相似文献

Exposure to ethanol at 0 days of development induced changes in total membrane fatty acid composition at 18 days of development. When exposed to ethanol concentrations ranging from 0–743.27μm/kg egg wt, decreased levels of long-chain, unsaturated membrane fatty acids and increased levels of short-chain, saturated membrane fatty acids were observed in embryonic chick brains at 18 days of development. The ratios of unsaturated membrane/saturated membrane fatty acids correlated with an ethanol-induced reduction in neuron densities within the cerebral hemispheres and three different regions of the optic lobes with correlation coefficients (r) ranging from 0.44 [F = (1, 32) 7.84; P ≤ 0.009] to 0.59 [F = (1, 32) 17.38; P ≤ 0.0002]. The ratios of long-chain/short-chain membrane fatty acids also correlated with an ethanol-induced reduction in neuron densities within the cerebral hemispheres and three different regions of the optic lobes with correlation coefficients (r) ranging from 0.51 [F = (1, 32) 11.27; P≤ 0.002] to 0.66 [F = (1, 32) 24.40; P ≤ 0.0001]. Resource polymorphism has been suggested to be a platform for speciation. In some cases resource polymorphism depends on phenotypic plasticity but in other cases on genetic differences between morphotypes, which in turn has been suggested to be the ongoing development of a species pair. Here we study environmentally induced morphological differences in two age classes of Arctic char ( Salvelinus alpinus ) influencing char performance and diet in relation to resource availability. We found that structurally complex habitats with relatively lower zooplankton densities gave rise to individuals with a deeper body, and a downward positioned tip of the snout compared with individuals from structurally simple habitats with relatively higher zooplankton densities for both age classes. Environment also had an effect on foraging efficiency on zooplankton, with fish from structurally simple habitats had a higher foraging rate than fish from structurally complex habitats. Diet analyses showed that resource use in char mainly depends on the relative abundance of different resources. The White‐headed Vulture Trigonoceps occipitalis (WhV) is uncommon and largely restricted to protected areas across its range in sub‐Saharan Africa. We used the World Database on Protected Areas to identify protected areas (PAs) likely to contain White‐headed Vultures. Vulture occurrence on road transects in Southern, East, and West Africa was adjusted to nests per km2 using data from areas with known numbers of nests and corresponding road transect data. Nest density was used to calculate the number of WhV nests within identified PAs and from there extrapolated to estimate the global population. Across a fragmented range, 400 PAs are estimated to contain 1893 WhV nests. Eastern Africa is estimated to contain 721 nests, Central Africa 548 nests, Southern Africa 468 nests, and West Africa 156 nests. Including immature and nonbreeding birds, and accounting for data deficient PAs, the estimated global population is 5475 ‐ 5493 birds. The identified distribution highlights are alarming: over 78% (n = 313) of identified PAs contain fewer than five nests. A further 17% (n = 68) of PAs contain 5 ‐ 20 nests and 4% (n = 14) of identified PAs are estimated to contain >20 nests. Just 1% (n = 5) of PAs are estimated to contain >40 nests; none is located in West Africa. Whilst ranging behavior of WhVs is currently unknown, 35% of PAs large enough to hold >20 nests are isolated by more than 100 km from other PAs. Spatially discrete and unpredictable mortality events such as poisoning pose major threats to small localized vulture populations and will accelerate ongoing local extinctions. Apart from reducing the threat of poisoning events, conservation actions promoting linkages between protected areas should be pursued. Identifying potential areas for assisted re‐establishment via translocation offers the potential to expand the range of this species and alleviate risk. 相似文献

The pathogenic effects of Pratylenchus coffeae on growth and yield of tangelo (Citrus paradisi × C. reticulata) scions grafted on rough lemon (C jambhiri), sour orange (C. aurantium) and ''Cleopatra'' mandarin (C. reticulata) rootstocks were evaluated under field conditions for 4 years. Pratylenchus coffeae on inoculated trees increased to significantly damaging population densities on rough lemon rootstock the second year, on sour orange the third and on Cleopatra mandarin the fourth year after planting. Mean growth reduction of P. coffeae-infected trees after 4 years was 80, 77 and 49%, respectively, for the three rootstocks. Noninoculated trees on rough lemon and sour orange rootstocks yielded significantly more fruit than comparable inoculated trees. Yield and yield components of three semi-leafless pea (Pisum sativum) cultivars, of contrasting seed type/growth habit, were assessed at target planting densities of 40–140 plants/m2 on nine sites over three years. Flat-topped parabolic/asymptotic yield/density relationships were obtained. The plant density required to maximise (p max) and optimise (p opt) yield differed between cultivars: Helka, small blue, p max 126 plants/m2, p opt 101 plants/m2; Solara, large blue, p max 124 plants/m2, p opt 94 plants/m2; and Countess, white-seeded, p max 104 plants/m2, p opt 71 plants/m2. Near-maximum yields were maintained between 70 and 140 plants/m2 due to the ability of the pea crop to make compensatory increases in the number of pods per plant as density declined. Yield/density responses were influenced by site (e.g. soil type) more than by seasonal factors. The risk of yield reductions occurring at densities below 70 plants/m2 was greater on a mineral soil than on a fertile organic soil. On the basis of agronomic and economic considerations, there was no evidence that target plant densities required to optimise yield should necessarily be higher for semi-leafless cultivars studied than for conventional leafed peas. 相似文献

Field experiments carried out on the nocturnal orb weaver spider, Neoscona crucifera (Aranea: Araneidae), found in deciduous hardwood forests suggest that lighted areas where prey densities are elevated provide cues used by the spiders to rank optimal foraging sites. Specifically, experiments were conducted to test whether spiders exhibited preferences for lighted areas where prey densities are high, maximizing their energy intake per unit of foraging time, and minimizing energy expended on web building. Incandescent light bulbs of 4–60 W were used to influence prey densities, and results indicate that when given a choice of brighter versus darker foraging areas, spiders seek lighted areas where prey densities are high. In addition, results support the hypothesis that the size and time of web construction are drastically reduced in brighter situations. 相似文献
