The form of the cephalic disc and its taxonomic significance at the species level in the genus Discocriconemella De Grisse &Loof, 1965 is discussed. By light (LM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), four groups of disc configurations in females and juveniles are distinguishable. The disc is either round with an uninterrupted margin (group 1), has a deep dorsal and ventral indentation (group 2), is indented medially and laterally giving a four-lobed appearance (group 3), or is round with paired dorsal and ventral projections (group 4). There is no apparent correlation between groups of cephalic discs and other characters such as tail shape or number of body annules. Discocriconemella mauritiensis (Williams, 1960) De Grisse &Loof, 1965 is redescribed from a sugar cane population collected in Mauritius, and the diagnosis of the genus is emended.  相似文献

Steinernema neocurtillis n. sp. isolated from the mole cricket Neocurtilla hexadactyla Perty can be distinguished from other members of the genus by characteristics of the first-generation male and the third-stage infective juvenile (IJ). In the male, the distance from the anterior end to the excretory pore (DAE) is less than the body width at the excretory pore; D% (DAE divided by length of esophagus x 100) is low at 19. The gubernaculum legth is greater than three-fourths the spicule length. Range of the ratio gubernaculum length divided by spicule length is 0.82-0.93 in the first-generation male and 0.92-1.00 in the second-generation male. In the IJ, the distance from the anterior end to the excretory pore is extremely short (18 μm), causing the D% and E% (DAE divided by tail length x 100) to be low (D% = 23 and E% = 12). Average body length of the IJ is 885 μm.  相似文献

In greenhouse experiments, broadleaf tobacco plants were inoculated with tobacco cyst (Globodera tabacum tabacum) or root-knot (Meloidogyne hapla) nematodes 3, 2, or 1 week before or at the same time as Fusarium oxysporum. Plants infected with nematodes prior to fungal inoculation had greater Fusarium wilt incidence and severity than those simultaneously inoculated. G. t. tabacum increased wilt incidence and severity more than did M. hapla. Mechanical root wounding within 1 week of F. oxysporum inoculation increased wilt severity. In field experiments, early-season G. t. tabacum control by preplant soil application of oxamyl indirectly limited the incidence and severity of wilt. Wilt incidence was 48%, 23%, and 8% in 1989 and 64%, 60%, and 19% in 1990 for 0.0, 2.2, and 6.7 kg oxamyl/ha, respectively. Early infection of tobacco by G. t. tabacum predisposed broadleaf tobacco to wilt by F. oxysporum.  相似文献

Morphometrics of Ogma menzeli from woodlands in the Adirondack Mountains of New York State and in Iowa were compared. Specimens from the Adirondacks were significantly greater in mean total body length, stylet length, the b, R, and RV values, body width, and esophagus length than specimens from Iowa. The V value was significantly greater in the Iowa than in the Adirondack specimens. The two populations are considered ecotypes of O. menzeli. Criconema sphagni morphometric measurements differed significantly for the RV value (negative) and V value (positive) relative to elevation in the Adirondacks. There was a positive regression correlation for the RV value of O. menzeli and elevation in the Adirondack Mountains.  相似文献

Microplot experiments were conducted in 1989 and 1990 to determine the relationship between yield of peanut (Arachis hypogaea) and inoculum density ofMeloidogyne arenaria race 1. Nine inoculum densities were used, ranging from 0-200 eggs/100 cm³ soil (1989) or from 0-100 eggs/100 cm³ (1990), and each density was replicated 10 times. In 1989, higher final densities (mean of 1,171 juveniles [J2]/100 cm³ soil) were obtained in plots inoculated with 0.5 to 50 eggs/100 cm³ soil than in plots inoculated with 100 to 200 eggs/100 cm³ (313 J2/100 cm³ soil). In 1990, final densities of M. arenaria reached high levels (≥ 1,111 J2/100 cm³ soil) in all inoculated plots. Pod yield and dry weight of foliage at harvest were negatively correlated (P ≤ 0.05) with inoculum density in both seasons. In 1989, the relationship between pod weight (y) and initial density (x) was described by Seinhorst''s equation, with y = 0.088 + 0.91(0.90)⁽x⁻¹⁾ and r² = 0.826. In 1990, the relationship was y = 0.22 + 0.78(0.97)⁽x⁻¹⁾ and r² = 0.794. These equations suggest tolerance limits of approximately 1 egg/100 cm³ soil, which may require specialized methods, such as bioassay, for detection.  相似文献

Plant-parasitic nematodes are obligate parasites, and planting cultivars that are highly resistant to these organisms places extensive selection pressure on the target species and affects nontarget nematodes as well. Problems encountered with long-term planting of cultivars resistant to nematodes include shifts in nematode races or species and the occurrence of multiple species of nematodes within the same field. These problems can be alleviated to some extent when crop management is used to lessen the selection pressure for change on the nematode populations. Race shifts within populations and possibly shifts between nematode species can be delayed by rotating susceptible cultivars and nonhost crops with resistant cultivars. Nematicides in conjunction with resistant cultivars may be used to limit damage by multiple species of nematodes. Some cultivars have resistance to multiple species of nematodes, but greatly increased research effort is needed in this area. More intensive plant breeding effort will be required to make nematode resistant cultivars competitive in quality and yield with more productive, susceptible cultivars.  相似文献

The life cycle of Steinernema scapterisci Nguyen and Smart, 1990 consists of an egg stage, four juvenile stages, and an adult stage (male and female). The cycle from IJ (third stage infective juveniles) to IJ may proceed by one of two routes. If the nutrient supply is sufficient and the population is not overcrowded, the IJ develop to adult males and females of the first generation. Most eggs from these adult females hatch and the juveniles develop through each life stage to become adult males and females of the second generation. Eggs produced by these females develop to IJ. This cycle takes 8-10 days (long cycle) at 24 C. If the nutrient supply is insufficient or if overcrowded, the IJ develop to adult males and females of the first generation, and eggs produced by the females develop directly to IJ. This cycle takes 6-7 days (short cycle). The nematode is less tolerant of lower temperatures and more tolerant of higher temperatures than are other species of the genus. The sex ratio is influenced by temperature. At 15 and 24 C, females constituted 54% and 60% of the population, respectively, but at 30 C females constituted 47% of the population.  相似文献

The possibility is examined that carbon (C) released into the soil from a root could enhance the availability of nitrogen (N) to plants by stimulating microbial activity. Two models are described, both of which assume that C released from roots is used by bacteria to mineralise and immobilise soil organic N and that immobilised N released when bacteria are grazed by bacterial-feeding nematodes or protozoa is taken up by the plant. The first model simulates the individual transformations of C and N and indicates that root-induced N mineralisation could supply only up to 10% of the plant's requirement, even if unrealistically ideal conditions are assumed. The other model is based on evidence that about 40% of immobilised N is subsequently taken up by the plant. A small net gain of N by the plant is shown (i.e. the plant takes up more N than it loses through exudation), although with exudate of up to C:N 33:1 less than 6% of the plant's requirement is supplied by root-induced N mineralisation. It is argued, however, that rhizosphere bacteria do not use plant-derived C to mineralise soil organic N to any great extent and that in reality root-induced N mineralisation is even less important than these models indicate.  相似文献

Summary A diallel cross of eight maize, Zea mays L., inbred lines was analyzed for reaction to two species of root-knot nematodes, Meloidogyne arenaria (Neal) Chitwood and M. javanica (Treub) Chitwood. Egg production following inoculation of F1 hybrid seedlings with nematode eggs was determined in a greenhouse experiment. Data were analyzed using Griffing's Method 4, Model I. General combining ability was a significant source of variation in egg production of both M. arenaria and M. javanica; specific combining ability was not a significant source of variation for either. The correlation between egg production of the two nematode species on the 28 F1 hybrids was highly significant. Hybrids with Mp313 or SC213 as one parent were the most resistant to both species. Low populations (200 specimens per plant) of Pratylenchus cofl''eae, Scutellonema bradys, Meloidogyne incognita, and Rotylenchulus reniformis stimulated the development of tops, roots, and tubers of Dioscorea rotundata "Guinea" yam. We demonstrated experimentally that P. coffeae was responsible for the deterioration in quality of the yam tuber in Puerto Rico, a condition known as a dry rot of yam. Initial populations of 600 P. coffeae, S. bradys, or M. incognita, and populations of 1,000 P. coffeae or S. bradys per plant were high enough to induce dry rot of the yam tubers. P. coffeae and S. bradys were pathogenic to yam cultivar Guinea, but M. incognita and R. reniformis did not cause necrosis or cracking of the tuber cortex in our experiments.  相似文献
