Pot experiments laid out in a complete randomised design were conducted in the screen house of the Department of Crop Protection, University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria to determine the effects of organic fertiliser and Chromolaena odorata residue at 1% w/w on the pathogenicity of Meloidogyne incognita infecting maize. M. incognita significantly reduced the plant height, number of leaves per plant, leaf area, cob weight and grain yield of maize by 6.89, 15.18, 20, 63.92 and 56.16% respectively. C. odorata residue and organic fertiliser significantly suppressed M. incognita galling, inhibited the nematode fecundity and reduced the number of eggs and juveniles on maize. A remarkable increase in plant height, number of leaves per plant, leaf area, cob weight and grain yield were observed on maize plants treated with the mixture of C. odorata and organic fertiliser despite the nematode infection. The observation from this study suggests that C. odorata in combination with organic fertiliser is a viable option for the control of M. incognita on maize.  相似文献

Glasshouse experiment was conducted to assess the impact of green chopped leaves of four test plants (Lantana camara, Ficus virens, Kigelia pinnata and Ficus bengalensis) and two nematicides (Phorate and Carbofuran) on the plant growth parameters of tomato cv. K25 and on the root-knot development. Results revealed that all the tested treatments significantly (p = 0.05) improved plant growth parameters and reduced root-knot development compared to control. Among the tested organic additives, chopped green leaves of Lantana camara added to soil gave the highest enhancement in plant growth parameters, including plant height, fresh and dry weight, number of fruits and fruit weight with the values of 94.2 cm, 106.8 g, 31.6 g, 7.2 and 153.3 g respectively, as well as a greater reduction of Meloidogyne javanica reproduction and development but exhibiting a lower response compared to nematicides. There was also significant reduction in root-knot development in tomato plants growing in other organic additive amended soil.  相似文献

Pathogenic effect of root-knot nematode Meloidogyne arenaria was studied on balsam (Impatiens balsamina) by inoculating the different inoculum levels of root-knot nematode. It was observed that the inoculum levels up to 2000 J2 of root-knot nematode did not show significant reduction in plant growth characters as compared to control. Although the significant reduction in plant growth characters was recorded at and above 3000 J2 of root-knot nematode, progressive increase in the host infestation as indicated by the number of galls as well as the population of root-knot nematode was recorded with an increase in the level of inoculum. However, the rate of nematode multiplication was reduced with the increase in the inoculum density of M. arenaria. It can be concluded from these results that the damaging threshold level of M. arenaria on balsam was found to be as 3000 J2/plant.  相似文献

The objective of our study was to examine the effect of local environmental conditions, especially air temperature and rainfall, in two agro-ecological regions in Vietnam on the population dynamics of Meloidogyne incognita on black pepper plants and on percentage root galling. The two study sites were situated in Cam Lo, Quang Tri province (North Central Coast) and Buon Ma Thuot, Dac Lac province (Central Highlands). At the study sites, 13 plant-parasitic nematode taxa belonging to 12 genera were identified. Ten of these taxa were present in both study sites. Helicotylenchus certus, Hemicriconemoides cocophilus and Pratylenchus coffeae were only found in Buon Ma Thuot. Based on nematode population densities, M. incognita was the most abundant taxon present. Rainfall and air temperature differed significantly between the two study sites. The most important climatic difference was rainfall: in Buon Ma Thuot, the rainy season lasted 2 months longer and the monthly rainfall during the rainy season was much higher compared to Cam Lo. Although this difference resulted in some differences in the population dynamics of M. incognita in the soil and roots of the black pepper variety Vinh Linh, the highest root population densities were observed in both study sites during the first half of the dry season. In Cam Lo, the highest percentage root galling was observed during the first half of the dry season. In Buon Ma Thuot, the highest percentage root galling was observed towards the end of the rainy season. Estimating the population densities if M. incognita to decide on the application of a management strategy should be done during the first half of the dry season.  相似文献

Abstract

The aim of the present study was to formulate six different plant seed oils namely canola, cotton, flax, olive, sesame and soybean as emulsifiable concentrates. The composition of the formulation comprises at least one organic solvent, one surfactant and one plant oil. Physico-chemical properties of the formulated oils (emulsion stability test, cold stability and heat stability tests) were measured. The successfully emulsified oils were evaluated for nematicidal activity against Meloidogyne incognita infecting tomato plants under greenhouse conditions. Emulsified canola oil proved to be the most effective oil as a protectant against M. incognita infection to tomatoes followed by soybean, cotton, flax and sesame oil. In addition, employing a high rate of the tested emulsified oils gave higher activity in suppressing nematodes both in the soil and in tomato roots than using a low rate. Moreover, all tested formulated oils at both rates of application had no adverse effect on the growth of tomato plants except sesame oil which significantly decreased the shoot length when compared to the control. The prepared plant oils might be used as potential sources for sustainable eco-friendly botanical nematicides to protect plants from nematode attack.  相似文献

Meloidogyne incognita infestation on maize results in heavy yield loss in farmers’ field. Most of the varieties adopted by subsistence farmers in Nigeria are susceptible to M. incognita. Beside these, the cost of control exceeding the profit from the crop using nematicides and the pollution risk they pose to the environment has necessitated the need for alternatives. Pot and field experiments were, therefore, conducted to investigate the effects of Chromolaena odorata powder and Glomus mosseae (a mycorrhizal fungus) on M. incognita pathogenicity on maize. Hybrid Oba super II improved maize variety adopted by local farmers was selected for the study. Maize plants were grown with G. mosseae (5 spores/g of soil) and soil amended with C. odorata powder (1% w/w) singly and in combination. Two weeks after emergence, Test plants were inoculated with 5000 M. incognita eggs. Sixty days after planting, destructive samples were assessed for root gall symptom and severity, and nematode population. Results show that G. mosseae and C. odorata powder were effective in controlling the population of M. incognita and the root knot nematode symptom and gave the highest yield parameters in combination. Single application of G. mosseae and C. odorata powder was similar in the effect on M. incognita and maize yield. Combination of G. mosseae and C. odorata powder may become a viable alternative to nematicide in managing M. incognita pathogenicity on maize as C. odorata powder may serve as a carrier medium for G. mosseae.  相似文献

The effects of neem compost on root knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita, pest of Lagos spinach, Celosia argentea, cv. TLV 8, was studied during 2010 and 2011 planting seasons on the field. The trial was conducted at the Teaching and Research Farm of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Nigeria. There were four treatments, replicated five times fitted into randomised complete block design. Neem compost was applied at 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0?tonnes/ha. Experimental plots, where no compost was applied served as the control. The result obtained shows that Lagos spinach treated with neem compost significantly (p?<?0.05) reduced the final soil nematode population and root infections (damage), with resultant improvement on crop growth and yield. The result of the chemical analysis of the neem compost revealed the presence of flavonoids, sterols, glycosides, alkaloids and saponins.  相似文献

Globodera rostochiensis and Rhizoctonia solani are the most important growth limiting factors influencing potato production in Iran. The effects of inoculation with Potato Cyst Nematodes (PCN) (0, 50, 75 and 100 cysts/3.5?kg soil) and R. solani (with or without inoculation) on potato growth and development were investigated in cultivars Santé and Marfona. Inoculation with R. solani induced severe damage, especially when inoculation was accompanied with high density of PCN. The damage caused by R. solani tended to increase with an increase in PCN density, especially in Marfona. In Santé, number of stems or branches per plant significantly increased by inoculation with R. solani, while in Marfona it was significantly affected either by R. solani inoculation or PCN density. In Santé, number of stolons per plant was significantly increased by PCN, but not by R. solani. In Marfona, however, the number of stolons per plant was significantly affected either by R. solani inoculation or by presence of PCN, but not affected by PCN density. The general effect of R. solani or PCN inoculation treatments on shoot, below-ground and total dry weight of potato was significant, but strongly affected by cultivar. In general, our study supports the synergistic interaction between R. solani and PCN and its moderation by the use of a resistant cultivar such as Santé.  相似文献

Summary

A supernatant from eggs of the ruminant nematode Trichostrongylus colubriformis contained an enzyme that was similar to leucine aminopeptidase (LAP), based on hydrolysis of the substrate L-leucine β-naphthylamide to β-naphthylamine. A Michaelis-Menten constant (K m) of 0.155 mM was obtained. Rate of hydrolysis of 16 substrates revealed that L-phenylalanine and L-tyrosine β-naphthylamides were hydrolyzed most readily while seven additional substrates were hydrolyzed at lesser rates. The optimum pH for enzymatic activity was 6.75–7.5. Enzymatic activity was lost by heating the egg supernatant to 60°C for 5 min or freezing at 0°C for 28 days. Addition of millimolar concentrations of the chlorides of zinc, manganese and magnesium to the egg supernatant had no stimulatory effect on enzyme activity while 10 and 100 mM concentrations significantly reduced activity. Ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid at 10?4 M had no effect on enzymatic activity. Activity was inhibited by 10?4 M 1,10-phenanthroline, but the inhibition was reversed by zinc chloride at 10?3 M. Di-isopropylphosphofluoridate at 10?3 M reduced enzymatic activity moderately. Enzyme activity in egg supernatant increased 2.2-fold from 21 days to 60–90 days of a primary infection in the host while a 3.3-fold increase was found in primary versus secondary infections.  相似文献
