BackgroundMechanically-assisted crevice corrosion of modular tapers continues to be a concern in total joint replacements. Surgical factors that may affect taper seating mechanics include seating load magnitude and load orientation. Seating mechanics is defined as the seating load versus displacement behavior. In this study, mixed-alloy (CoCrMo/Ti-6Al-4V) modular head-neck 5°40′ taper junctions were seated over a range of axially-oriented loads and off-axis orientations, capturing load-displacement during seating. The goals of the study were to assess the effects of seating load magnitude and load orientation on seating mechanics and correlate those findings with the taper pull-off load.MethodsA testing fixture measured head-neck seating displacement as the load was quasistatically applied. Motion was captured using two non-contact differential variable reluctance transducers which were mounted to the neck targeting the head. Seating experiments ranged from 1000 N to 8000 N. Load orientation ranged from 0° to 20° at 4000 N.ResultsSeating load-displacement behavior at different seating loads showed a consistent characteristic behavior. Testing demonstrated increased seating displacement with seating load. Pull-off loads increased with seating load and were approximately 44% of the seating load across the range of seating loads investigated. Seating load orientation up to 20° had no significant effect on seating displacement and taper pull-off load.ConclusionIncreased seating load magnitude increased seating displacement, work of seating and pull-off loads in mixed-alloy 5°40′ head-neck tapers. Altering load orientation up to 20° off-axis had no significant effect. Direct measurements of seating mechanics provides insights into the locking of taper junctions.  相似文献

Plant colonization in areas recently exposed by retreating glaciers in Tropical Andean volcanoes seems to be facilitated by moraines or lava flows. The Ordovician and Silurian periods were times of major geological activity as regards palaeogeography, volcanism and climate change, the last of these evidenced by a series of cooling episodes and glaciations that climaxed in the Hirnantian (Late Ordovician). The presence of cryptospores in the Darriwilian (Middle Ordovician) marked the advent of higher plants on land. A critical survey of direct (mega‐ and microfossils) and some indirect evidence in succeeding rocks indicates the presence of algae, Bacteria, Cyanobacteria, Fungi, probable lichens, cryptophytes and basal tracheophytes. Similar associations of photosynthesizers and decomposers occur today in cryptogamic covers (CCs), for example biological crusts, except that bryophytes replace cryptophytes (basal embryophytes) and tracheophytes are absent. Thus, extant CCs, which make significant contributions today to global carbon and nitrogen fixation and prevention of erosion, provide an excellent analogue for the impacts of early land vegetation on both lithosphere and atmosphere. As a prerequisite to assessing impacts in Ordovician–Silurian times, with particular consideration of parameters used by climate modellers, the effects of a number of abiotic factors on the growth and survival of extant cryptogamic ground covers and their environmental impacts are reviewed. Factors include photosynthetically active radiation, ultraviolet radiation, temperature, water, oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, phosphorus, iron, surface roughness and albedo. A survey of the nature and extent of weathering facilitated by such vegetation concludes that it was limited based on depth of weathering when compared with that from rooted tracheophytes today, with minor effects on carbon dioxide drawdown. As global net productivity from Ordovician–Silurian CCs was very probably lower than today, and while the small fraction of intractable material in their organic carbon would have resulted in a more rapid turnover of terrestrial biomass, we conclude that there was decreased possibility of long‐term organic carbon burial. Hence, there would have been very limited increase in atmospheric oxygen and decrease in carbon dioxide resulting from carbon burial.  相似文献

A modified six-step sequential extraction procedure was used to fractionate and determine the following trace metals: U4+, As5+, Cd2+, Cr+2, Cu2+, Ni2+, Pb2+, Zn2+, and V5+ in three different phosphate rocks from mines in Jordan. The mean values of uranium in the samples investigated were 98 ± 6 mgkg?1, 92 ± 3 mgkg?1, 215 ± 6 mgkg?1, and 159 ± 13 mgkg?1, respectively. The sequential extraction results obtained showed that most of the U4+ in these samples was strongly bound with 87%, 93%, 97%, and 93% of the total content, respectively, remaining in the samples after the sequential extraction steps were performed. Hence, 13%–7% and 3%–7%, respectively, of the U4+ is distributed in the most labile form, indicating that the majority of the U4+ in these samples was highly incorporated within the apatite present in the samples. The aforementioned was in agreement with the XRD and SEM-EDX results obtained. The apparent mobility of U4+, As5+, Cd2+, Cr+2, Cu2+, Ni2+, Pb2+, Zn2+, and V5+ (using all six extraction steps) from the Al-Abied and Al-Hasa samples was as follows: As5+ (30.17%)> Cu2+ (6.55%)> Zn2+(4.34%)> Cd2+ (3.84%) Cr+2 (3.66%)> Pb2+ (2.57%)> V5+ (53%)> Ni2+ (1.71%)> U4+ (0.99%). The mobility of As5+, Cd2+, Cu2+, Cr+2, Ni2+, Pb2+, U4+, Zn2+, and V5+ (using all six extraction steps) from Eshidiya samples was as follows: As5+ (17.32%)> Cr+2 (4.84%)> Zn2+ (4.25%)> Pb2+ (4.19%)> Cu2+ (3.49%)> V5+ (1.42%)> Cd2+ (0.78) U4+ (0.09%)> Ni2+ (0%).  相似文献

Relative quantification of DNA from Tuber melanosporum mycelia was performed by conventional and real-time PCR in soil from trees in three truffle orchards of different ages to determine: (1) whether burn appearance is related to the amount of T. melanosporum mycelium in soil, and (2) whether productivity onset and truffle production are related to (a) the amount of T. melanosporum mycelium in soil, (b) tree height and diameter, (c) burn extension and (d) surface rock cover. The burn seems to appear only after a certain amount of mycelium has formed. Precociously productive trees presented higher quantities of mycelium than nonproductive trees in the productivity onset study, while highly productive trees presented less quantities of mycelium than nonproductive trees in the productivity study. Trees with high but not excessive surface rock cover showed greater truffle production. Larger trees tended to display a burn earlier than smaller trees.  相似文献

The construction of artificial structures in the marine environment is increasing globally. Eco‐engineering aims to mitigate the negative ecological impacts of built infrastructure through designing structures to be multifunctional, benefiting both humans and nature. To date, the focus of eco‐engineering has largely been on benefits for benthic invertebrates and algae. Here, the potential effect of eco‐engineered habitats designed for benthic species on fish was investigated. Eco‐engineered habitats (“flowerpots”) were added to an intertidal seawall in Sydney Harbour, Australia. Responses of fish assemblages to the added habitats were quantified at two spatial scales; large (among seawalls) and small (within a seawall). Data were collected during high tide using cameras attached to the seawall to observe pelagic and benthic fish. At the larger spatial scale, herbivores, planktivores, and invertebrate predators were generally more abundant at the seawall with the added flowerpots, although results were temporally variable. At the smaller spatial scale, certain benthic species were more abundant around flowerpots than at the adjacent control areas of seawall, although there was no general pattern of differences in species density and trophic group abundance of pelagic fish between areas of the seawall with or without added habitats. Although we did not find consistent, statistically significant findings throughout our study, the field of research to improve fish habitat within human‐use constraints is promising and important, although it is in its early stages (it is experimental and requires a lot of trial and error). To advance this field, it is important to document when effects were detected, and when they were not, so that others can refine the designs or scale of habitat enhancements or their study approaches (e.g., sampling protocols).  相似文献

以桂西北石灰岩地区连片出露石丛生境次生林群落为研究对象, 运用稳定性氢氧同位素技术结合IsoSource模型, 分析了5种典型植物(半落叶乔木粉苹婆(Sterculia euosma)、落叶乔木菜豆树(Radermachera sinica)、常绿灌木鹅掌柴(Schefflera octophylla)以及落叶灌木红背山麻杆(Alchornea trewioides)和紫弹树(Celtis biondii))水分来源的季节性差异。结果表明: 雨季, 除鹅掌柴同时利用部分前期雨水外, 其余4种植物均主要利用最近15天内的雨水(利用比例的平均值之和均超过80%)。旱季, 5种植物均主要利用最近一次雨水与前期雨水(一个月前)的混合(利用比例的平均值之和均超过80%), 其中乔木和常绿灌木对前期雨水的利用比例更高(利用比例的平均值均超过50%)。植被良好的石灰岩连片出露石丛生境中, 植物主要以不同时期的雨水为主要水源, 这可能与石灰岩发育的裂隙及其储水能力有关。储存在裂隙中的雨水通过植物蒸腾的方式返回大气, 这一良好的水文循环过程应得到充分的保护。  相似文献

松辽盆地是我国白垩纪最大的陆相含油气盆地,晚白垩世两次大的湖侵事件导致了微体生物群的繁盛和富烃源岩层的形成。在论述松辽盆地白垩纪微体古生物群分布特征的基础上,着重阐述了以微体生物为核心的松花江生物群的发育与富烃源岩层形成的关系。认为大型富营养湖泊的发育为松花江生物群的繁盛创造了良好的外部条件,而湖盆内繁盛的微体生物群则为富烃源岩层的形成提供了丰厚的物质基础,与此同时,长期继承性深水构造凹陷和非补偿沉积则是富烃源岩层形成的有利场所。  相似文献

通过对山东青东凹陷西部古近纪地层孢粉研究,共建立4个孢粉组合:Ⅰ.Ephedripites-Inaperturopollenites-Ulmipollenites minor,Ⅱ.Pinaceae-Ulmoideipites tricostatus-Taxodiaceaepollenites,Ⅲ.QuercoiditeshenriciTaxodiaceaepollenites hiatus,Ⅳ.Alnipollenites-Juglanspollenites-Polypodiaceaes porites。根据与渤海湾地区的孢粉资料对比,确定4个组合的时代分别为早始新世晚期—中始新世早期、中始新世早—中期、中始新世中—晚期、中始新世晚期—晚始新世。该区古近纪植被类型由落叶、阔叶和灌木混交林逐步转变为落叶、常绿阔叶和针叶混交林,古气候经历了干热的亚热带气候到湿热的亚热带气候再到亚热带型温暖气候的变化。沙四段上部到沙三段下部沉积时期是研究区烃源岩最为发育时期。  相似文献
