Human‐induced changes to fire regimes result in smaller, more patchy fires in many peri‐urban areas, with a concomitant increase in potential edge effects. In sclerophyll vegetation, many structurally dominant serotinous plants rely on the immediate post‐fire environment for recruitment. However, there is little information about how fire attributes affect seed predation or recruitment for these species. We examined the influence of distance to unburnt vegetation on post‐dispersal seed predation for five serotinous species from sclerophyll vegetation in the Sydney region, south‐eastern Australia; Banksia serrata L.f., Banksia spinulosa Sm. var. spinulosa, Hakea gibbosa (Sm.) Cav., Hakea teretifolia (Salisb.) Britten (all Proteaceae) and Allocasuarina distyla (Vent.) L. Johnson (Casuarinaceae). We used cafeteria trials and differential exclusion of vertebrates and invertebrates to test whether rates of seed removal for these five species differed among (i) unburnt, (ii) burnt‐edge (approx. 10 m from unburnt vegetation) and (iii) burnt‐interior (approx. 100 m from unburnt vegetation) locations. When all animals had access to seeds, seeds were removed at lower rates from burnt‐interior areas than from other locations. Vertebrates (small mammals) showed this pattern markedly the first time the experiment was run, but in a repeat trial this effect disappeared. Rate of seed removal by invertebrates differed among plant species but we did not detect any such differences for removal by vertebrates. Overall rates of seed removal also differed significantly between the two fires studied. Our results indicate that small mammal seed predation can be substantial for large‐seeded serotinous shrubs, and that differences in the perimeter: area ratio, severity or size of a fire are likely to affect seed predation. 相似文献

小麦穗发芽是小麦生产中的主要灾害和重要问题,在普通小麦中缺乏抗穗发芽的品种资源。本试验通过对35份黄河中游地区节节麦、14份国外节节麦及部分小麦品种的发芽率的测定及抗性多样性分析,综合评价了黄河中游地区节节麦的穗发芽抗性状况。结果表明,节节麦穗发芽抗性普遍高于小麦品种,黄河中游地区节节麦的抗穗发芽能力优于国外材料,其中以T005、T007、T008、T016、T030、T062、T065、T068、T069、T072和T085等11个材料的抗穗发芽能力最强,是小麦穗发芽改良优异的抗源材料。 相似文献

南方红豆杉(Taxus chinensis var. mairei)是中国特有的国家一级保护植物。2009-2010年采用2年龄实生苗为采条母株进行室内盆栽扦插试验研究,结果表明:珍珠岩和河沙两种基质相比较,珍珠岩上生根率显著高于河沙,是更佳选择;用市售的"花语牌"快速促根剂配制成5、10、15、2 0mg/mL 4个浓度分别处理插穗基部并以蒸馏水作对照发现,10 mg/mL、15 mg/mL处理有利于生长,15 mg/mL处理后生根率显著高于5 mg/mL、10 mg/mL、20 mg/mL及对照。再以同一浓度生根粉分别浸泡4 h、8 h、10 h作对比发现,8 h和10 h处理后生长效果较好,10 h的生根率显著高于4 h、8 h。 相似文献

Key biological parameters of Anagyrus sp. nr. pseudococci reared on the citrus mealybug Planococcus citri (Risso) were determined. The mean longevity of female wasps was 21.1 days, the median lethal time (LT50) was 22 days, the mean number of offspring per female was 30.2 wasps and the sex ratio of the progeny was slightly male biased (1.1 males per female). Wasps fed with water showed a significantly lower longevity compared to that recorded for wasps fed with syrup for bee nutrition mixed with water. The longevity of female wasps was significantly higher compared to males when the syrup-water solution was provided as food. Longevity was significantly higher for female wasps fed with syrup and water in comparison with those exposed to host mealybugs. The mean development time of female and male wasps was 14.7±0.1 and 14.5±0.1 days, respectively. 相似文献

Diatom, as a kind of autotrophic photosynthetic eukaryotic algae, is an important primary producer in aquatic ecosystem, and can reflect the average status of water environment. As the bio-indicators of the environment, Nitzschia communis, Navicula minuscula, and Gomphonema parvulum can indicate the eutrophication of waters, whereas Gomphonema angustum, Epithemia adnata, and Diatoma moniliformis can indicate the oligotrophication of waters. Cyclotella bodanica, Neidium affine, and Eunotia exigua are all the eosinophilic species that can indicate waters acidity, Aminutissimum nodusa can indicate water’s Cu concentration, and Synedra ulna can indicate the Zn concentration in waters. Some other diatoms can also indicate water’s contamination. This paper reviewed the research progress on the applications of diatom and diatom indices in river health assessment, pointed out the related existing problems, and put forward some future research directions, e.g., further perfect the classification and identification of diatoms, broadly carry out the researches of diatom indices upon different areas and conditions, pay more attention to the screening of diatom bio integrality indices, and establish a benchmark which suits for the assessment of water quality. 相似文献

Summary 1. Many studies have shown negative effects of river drying on in‐stream animals. However, the influence of river drying on riparian animals remains poorly studied. We examined ground‐dwelling riparian arthropod assemblages along a drying section of the semi‐arid San Pedro River in southeastern Arizona, U.S.A. 2. We found strong differences in assemblage composition, taxon diversity and the abundance of key taxa between dry and flowing sites, with higher diversity and abundance of most taxa at flowing sites. 3. Changes in assemblage composition, taxon diversity and abundance of representative taxa were associated with a combined measure of water availability that included distance to water and type of water. Other environmental variables showed a weaker association with changes in these arthropod assemblages. 4. Thus, we found evidence that desert riparian arthropods are sensitive to river drying and to reduction in water resources. Increases in drying along this river may reduce the diversity and the abundance of many groups of ground‐dwelling arthropods, leading to marked shifts in community composition. 相似文献

Anthropogenic chemicals occurring in the environment, namely endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), have generated growing concern over their potential adverse effects on human wildlife health and ecosystem processes. This interest resulted particularly from their abilities to mimic the effect of endogenous hormones. In this study, we used stable transfected reporter cell lines to investigate the endocrine-disrupting profile of water as well as sediment samples. Samples are collected from up- and downstream of an industrial wastewater discharge point at the Hamdoun River in the vicinity of an industrial zone located at the center of Tunisia. The analysis of estrogen, androgen, and xenobiotic (pregnane X and dioxin) ligands receptors expressed by chimeric cell lines indicated that while the water and sediment samples from upstream sites have lower levels of estrogenic activity, those from downstream exhibited stronger estrogenic, aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR), and Pregnane X Receptor (PXR) activities. Moreover, collected samples have shown hormonal activity in terms of all tested receptors except the androgenic ones. In vitro recombinant estrogen receptor competitive binding assays revealed that while the estrogenic activities of the downstream water sample compounds had a strong affinity for estrogen receptor α (ERα), those present in the sediment samples showed a weaker one. These findings were consolidated by subsequent chemical analysis (high-performance liquid chromatography with UV detectors). Our results indicate that the water and sediment discharges at the Hamdoun River represent a major sink for EDCs from natural and industrial effluents, particularly those of the textile industry, with pernicious potential to disrupt normal endocrine functions. 相似文献

Upland soils are important sinks for atmospheric methane (CH4), a process essentially driven by methanotrophic bacteria. Soil CH4 uptake often depends on land use, with afforestation generally increasing the soil CH4 sink. However, the mechanisms driving these changes are not well understood to date. We measured soil CH4 and N2O fluxes along an afforestation chronosequence with Norway spruce (Picea abies L.) established on an extensively grazed subalpine pasture. Our experimental design included forest stands with ages ranging from 25 to >120 years and included a factorial cattle urine addition treatment to test for the sensitivity of soil CH4 uptake to N application. Mean CH4 uptake significantly increased with stand age on all sampling dates. In contrast, CH4 oxidation by sieved soils incubated in the laboratory did not show a similar age dependency. Soil CH4 uptake was unrelated to soil N status (but cattle urine additions stimulated N2O emission). Our data indicated that soil CH4 uptake in older forest stands was driven by reduced soil water content, which resulted in a facilitated diffusion of atmospheric CH4 into soils. The lower soil moisture likely resulted from increased interception and/or evapotranspiration in the older forest stands. This mechanism contrasts alternative explanations focusing on nitrogen dynamics or the composition of methanotrophic communities, although these factors also might be at play. Our findings further imply that the current dramatic increase in forested area increases CH4 uptake in alpine regions. 相似文献
