Feeding studies on rice genetically modified with soybean glycinin were performed on rats for four weeks. The rats were divided into three groups, each being fed on (I) only a commercial diet, (II) this diet plus control rice and (III) this diet plus rice genetically modified with glycinin. The rats were fed with 10 g/kg-weight of rice every day by oral administration. During the test period, the rats in every group grew well without marked differences in appearance, food intake, body weight, or cumulative body weight gain. There were also no significant differences in the blood count, blood composition or internal organ weights among the rats. Necropsy at the end of the experiment indicated neither pathological symptoms nor histopathological abnormalities in the liver and kidney. Judging from these results, the rice genetically modified with glycinin is considered to have been essentially the same in nutritional and biochemical characteristics as the control rice.  相似文献

In the course of investigation of alicyclic hydrocarbon-utilizing microorganisms, five strains of ethylcyclohexane-utilizing bacteria were isolated from soil samples.

Among those bacteria, the strain S6B1 that was identified as Alcaligenes faecalis, showed the best growth in shaking culture.

The strain S6B1 was found to produce 4-ethylcyclohexanol from ethylcyclohexane.

This substance separated from culture broth was purified and identified to be trans-4-ethylcyclohexanol by the use of NMR.  相似文献

A polymorphism in rice amylases at an early stage of seed germination is analyzed by zymogram. In nonglutinous cultivars of rice, α-amylase isozymes are mainly confirmed in germinating seeds. However, in glutinous cultivars, β-amylase isozymes, which are not confirmed in nonglutinous cultivars, make up the major part of the total amylase activity and the expression of α-amylases are repressed.  相似文献

Agriculturally important grasses contain numerous diazotrophic bacteria, the interactions of which are speculated to have some other benefits to the host plants. In this study, we analyzed the effects of a bacterial endophyte, Azospirillum sp. B510, on disease resistance in host rice plants. Rice plants (Oryza sativa cv. Nipponbare) were inoculated with B510 exhibited enhanced resistance against diseases caused by the virulent rice blast fungus Magnaporthe oryzae and by the virulent bacterial pathogen Xanthomonas oryzae. In the rice plants, neither salicylic acid (SA) accumulation nor expression of pathogenesis-related (PR) genes was induced by interaction with this bacterium, except for slight induction of PBZ1. These results indicate the possibility that strain B510 is able to induce disease resistance in rice by activating a novel type of resistance mechanism independent of SA-mediated defense signaling.  相似文献

In connection with flavor deterioration accompanied by food irradiation, the effect of γ-irradiation on sulfoxide amino acids in air free aqueous system was investigated. The major radiolysis products from S-n-propyl-l-cysteine sulfoxide (PCSO) were alanine, cysteic acid, dipropyl disulfide, etc., and from S-allyl-l-cysteine sulfoxide (ACSO) were S-allyl-l-cysteine, cystine, cysteic acid, etc., which were isolated chromatographycally and identified by using IR and mass spectrometry. The sulfoxide in ACSO was more easily reduced to sulfide than that of in PCSO, and the bond of S-C (β-carbon in alanine moiety) in ACSO was difficult to cleave. These differences observed between PCSO and ACSO in the radiolysis products and their yields indicate that the radiolysis degradation is considerably influenced by the structure of alkyl group. From the experiments with N2O or KBr addition during irradiation, principal roles of the active species in irradiated water in the degradation processes were partly elucidated.  相似文献

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) produces a variety of diterpene phytoalexins, such as momilactones, phytocassanes, and oryzalexins. Momilactone B was previously identified as an allelopathic substance exuded from the roots of rice. We identified in this present study momilactone A and phytocassanes A–E in extracts of, and exudates from, the roots of rice seedlings. The concentration of each compound was of the same order of magnitude as that of momilactone B. Expression analyses of the diterpene cyclase genes responsible for the biosynthesis of momilactones and phytocassanes suggest that these phytoalexins found in roots are primarily biosynthesized in those roots. None of phytocassanes B–E exhibited allelopathic activity against dicot seedling growth, whereas momilactone A showed much weaker allelopathic activity than momilactone B. The exudation of diterpene phytoalexins from the roots might be part of a system for defense against root-infecting pathogens.  相似文献

The textures of cooked rice prepared from aged rice grains and their improvement by reducing agents were investigated. For aged rice that was stored for 5 months without air by the operation of a vacuum packing machine, the stickiness/hardness ratio of cooked rice was as low as that of aged rice stored in air. The results of electrophoresis showed that oxidation of proteins in the former was advanced to the same degree as in the latter. The stickiness/hardness ratios of the aged rice were increased by the addition of sodium sulfite, cysteine, and dithiothreitol to the cooking water. Sodium sulfite, cysteine, and dithiothreitol cleave disulfide bonds to sulfhydryl groups. Therefore, cleaving disulfide bonds to sulfhydryl groups improved the texture. The addition of them to the cooking water also increased the extractable solids at the time of heating. Hence cleaving disulfide bonds to sulfhydryl groups must increase extractable solids. Consequently, the gelatinized paste layer thickened and the thick paste layer softened the cooked rice.  相似文献

Dietary plant protein is well known to reduce serum cholesterol levels. Rice bran is a by-product of rice milling and is a good source of protein. The present study examined whether feeding rats a high-cholesterol diet containing 10% rice bran protein (RBP) for 10 d affected cholesterol metabolism. Rats fed dietary RBP had lower serum total cholesterol levels and increased excretion of fecal steroids, such as cholesterol and bile acids, than those fed dietary casein. In vitro assays showed that RBP strongly bound to taurocholate, and inhibited the micellar solubility of cholesterol, compared with casein. Moreover, the bile acid-binding proteins of the RBP were eluted by a chromatographic column conjugated with cholic acid, and one of them was identified as hypothetical protein OsJ_13801 (NCBI accession No. EAZ29742) using MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry analysis. These results suggest that the hypocholesterolemic action of the RBP may be caused by the bile acid-binding proteins.  相似文献

The α-d-galactosidases of six Streptomyces strains were examined on their inducer susceptibility, substate specificity, and inhibitor susceptibility. In all strains examined, α-d-galactosidase was induced by d-galactose, but neither by d-fucose nor by l-arabinose. α-d-Fucosidase activity was always induced accompanying with α-d-galactosedase activity. β-l-Arabinosidase activity, however, was never observed. These α-d-galactosidases were purified to electrophoretically pure degree by successive ammonium sulfate and ethanol precipitation, and ion exchange and gel filtration chromatography. The purified preparations from six strains were different from each other in their chromatographic behaviors and in some physical properties, but they all showed strong α-d-fucosidase activity as well. The α-d-galactosidase activities were strongly inhibited by d-galactose and l-arabinose, but scarcely by d-fucose. On the other hand, their α-d-fucosidase activities were inhibited by d-fucose as well as by d-galactose and l-arabinose.  相似文献
